Does this for the thrill of the chase, How could she not be aware of surveillance techniques or theft prevention strategies. She was doing this repeatedly for the impulse rush, the sugar high and not to save money. Idiot.
Most stores have neither the systems nor the personnel to catch these small crimes. Guaranteed she is doing this everywhere, not only at Target, and for years and years. And just look at others on here justifying it by saying stores charge too much.
Cops get away with murder you think shoplifting is off the table? Brainwashing is real. The economy is so shit even the government workers feel the need to cut corners. Focus on the headlines! Nothing to see here folks.
@@megamonkey852Exactly! And they always let them resign instead of firing them, that way they can just apply with nothing bad on their resumes/work record so they can get hired at another police department and also so they don't lose their pensions. Its total BS!

@@ajm5007 This is why I laugh on social justice warriors online. Cops don't get fined or jailed. Most just get reassigned in a different town 1-2 hours away. Even if they k1LL someone they'll just get a 6 months leave
I've heard that Albuquerque is a *very lenient jurisdiction.* In such areas, criminal activity becomes *rampant and unchecked* as an inevitable result.
She gets caught red handed and she has the nerve to have an attitude??? To save 160 bucks??? You’re kidding me!!! I hope she doesn’t get another job in another agency!!!! Cause that’s what they do!!! She is a thief and should be branded as one!!!!
$160 theft x that how many times she does this & for how long? One reason why Target stopped self check out. Cause of theft: small or large it all adds up
What attitude is it you think she had? She was pretty calm in her demeanor and really didn't say much other than that she didn't want to discuss it any further.
lol , they will allow her to resign , plea the charges to nothing and rehire her at a different department with high fives and promotions , cops are the biggest gang in America exploiting qualified immunity daily across America
She was given the option to resign or be fired...that is what is messed up...she should have been fired and forbidden to work in law enforcement ever again.
She won't be allowed to work in law enforcement again. Theft/shoplifting is considered a crime of moral turpitude and an automatic disqualifier for employment in law enforcement.
@@c-mobucks4930 It depends, since it was all misdemeanors that won't DQ you from all depts, however like most retail theft (especially with Target and it being a misdemeanor) I am willing to bet the charges would be dropped against her. Target likes going after the big fish which is why they let you shoplift so many times until it becomes a felony and then they will nail you, the only reason they went after her so fast was because she was a cop.
Instead of being fired, she has been allowed to resign so she could go and work someplace else? That seems to be the pattern for disgraced police officers.
My son worked in a large department store while in college and he said that the cameras can zoom into the size label your taking to the dressing room to fit on. People switch clothes in the dressing room too.
None of them uphold the law. Maybe .01%, besides that cops are just the mafia with badges. its about extorting money out you. Not about keeping you safe..You might want to wake up
Government is also supposed to uphold the law but they’re pretty much sending a message that no law can be enforced since the one person who’s most criminal in American history still isn’t in prison. That says it all. Cops also are cops because they’re naturally bad people who want to hurt others and use their anger to keep people in line and with that qualified immunity seems to be special treatment above the law as well.
Audit her payroll, time, and attendance. I'd bet she has a long history of putting in for hours that she never worked. This could amount to tens of thousands of dollars.
Notice the police department saw the video of her shoplifting and confronted her about, she then refused to talk about it, yet they didn't fire her and allowed her to resign. Her certification is being looked into but not a thing has happened. Once this story dies down she will plea to a lesser charge and be back working at the department next door.
She's probably already working for another backwards corrupt private police agency. Probably somewhere in Oakland, Detroit or Balitmore. Cities that embrace criminality.
Could always get rid of self check out and actually pay workers..But nope.. How Walmart and others are allowed to pay employees pennies while bringing in billions. All about keeping as many as you can poor
your missing the ops point. the fact an officer of the law is doing something as petty as trying to save a few dollars at target and risk being caught could insinuate or lead one to think she has likely done way worse things. especially when she has the power to do a lot more than price switching as law enforcement. which to be fair you have to be pretty slick to do. i wouldnt be surprised if she has used similar tactics at work, whether it be clocking hours she didn't do, or making cases work in her favor. @@snopro2375
As a just turned teen, I switched price tags on a Rapala Shad Rap from $5 something to $2.50 37 years ago. It was right before Christmas and security stopped my mother and me at the exit. They brought us back to the security office and showed my mother the video footage of me being the worst thief ever. The shame and embarrassment were enough that I've never since stolen again and never will. Didn't even get an ass beating for it, which would've been a lot better than the look of disappointment on my parents faces.
Mom was so disappointed in you. It was good that you were confronted. You learned from it. And stopped shoplifting, which was the point. Shoplifting becomes impulsive. Some can’t seem to stop once they get started…unless confronted.
I’ve worked in retail loss prevention for 20 years and we’ve caught everyone from a local judge to the daughter of the owner of one of our city’s professional sports teams shoplifting. Some people just like the feeling of getting something for nothing.
Years ago, while working retail, in Northern Virginia (right across the river from DC, so lots of offices and feds in the area), saw a guy in a nice gray 3pc suit cruising the candy aisle. I saw him tuck candy in various pockets... he was shocked to be met by cops on the way out the door, frisked by the cops, and walked back into the store to apologize to the store mgr. His comment to me: "why would you even be watching ME?" (like he was something special and 'harmless') I think my manager allowed him to pay for the candy and leave, but he got a serious chat with the cops before he left.
She didn't do anything she's accused of, All i saw was her buying product with a narrative painted around her purchases, I didn't see her changing ANY price tags
If it was a bunch of high end products from ulta, I may be able to agree, but those weren't very high end products. She had an ELF foundation, which is one of the cheapest makeup brands on the market, Cerave lotion, a very drugstore brand, etc. It's ridiculous that she stole, but it's also wild how expensive just a few drugstore-brand products end up costing each time.
@@dreamslovesoul yea right. target only caught guppies. This case goes to the TV news because the thief was a police officer. In most cases, target wouldn't even bother catching anyone stealing pennies.
He is a detective, Loss Prevention is all about detective work and there is plenty of work. Most of their work involves employee theft and whenever a Loss Prevention Officer approaches an employee they are in serious trouble. They are not store security guards, they are responsible for any and all loss that can be prevented at their locations and they get huge bonuses for the job. Depending on the organization they work with they make more than a detective on the force that's for sure. You can be in a store standing next to a Loss Prevention Officer and never know it, not even store employees know who they are until they come pay you a visit and you don't want that visit. They are the closest thing to a blood hound.

It's sad in that if I can't afford something I don't buy it. It would not even occur t me to change the price so I could afford it. I'm sure her police union will spend unlimited funds so she keeps her job though. The police unions are all extremely corrupt. They have to be to get dishonest cops off the hook when caught. I got caught stealing less than $50 worth of items when I was 18. They were Christmas gifts for my little sister. I didn’t have any money. I got caught and didn’t have a job and basically was charged and my mom was going to have to end up paying thousands in court costs. I stood up in court and pleaded w the judge, saying it is not fair that my mom has to pay that kind of stuff when she didn’t have anything to do with this and I’m taking full responsibility. Is there anything we can do so that my mom doesn’t have to pay that? I asked. Thankfully the judge was empathetic and told me if I did 100 hours community service he would waive all court costs and basically dismiss the charge. I was so thankful. I got those hundred hours done in 10 days. I was able to choose where I did my community service and I chose the orange county animal shelter. I worked for 10 hours for 10 days straight. I never stole again because $50 $100 $150 is not worth the charge. If some thing is worth stealing it’s worth purchasing that was my new outlook and I never stole again. It’s sad that this deputies career of 10 years is completely over because she didn’t wanna pay $150. Sad. I’m so glad I learned that lesson young. That's great of you! I'm happy a judge was able to work with you on it. No one has ever had an issue and it's more valuable tbh. Gifting things is so materialistic like none of it actually matters in life whatsoever. They won't keep the crap I give them forever. Not everyone can do that job, especially here in North America where cashiers have to stand in uncomfortable positions. Many people who work in self checkout can't stand behind a till. Kudos to the alert attendants. They put up with a lot of crap.
Wrong. Retail theft has been bad and will only get worse due the our economic situations in the USA. Human Cashiers are more of a liability half the time than the self check out machines themselves, hence why the world is moving that way everyday.
Thieves can be anyone, regardless of their profession, race, or gender. Being an officer does not automatically make someone morally upright or a saint overnight.
This is pitiful, there are people walking out of stores with shopping cats full and nobody says anything to them and when they get caught they’re let go the same day. But this cop was obviously not making enough money at her job and becomes the target of an elaborate investigation. What a joke
I'd disagree. Cops are paid well these days...for the most part certainly. Second? You are supposed to be the example of purity with the law. When you take the oath. This woman failed. As someone who wore a badge for 26 years, I wouldn't want her in my ranks.
So you're saying it's okay for cops to steal if they don't feel like they are not being paid enough, especially cause others do it and get away with it? Damn. @@bunnyluver2176 I’m telling you exactly that. That’s what happens when you go to court and demand the cops axion body cam video. The video will either support the plaintiff or the defendant. Cops words aren’t trusted as the ultimate truth. In the moment they can be…they need to be….its hard to explain here…but think about it? We need a system where someone in the immediate sense is trusted. Like to let them place cuffs on you…you’re vulnerable right? But if the cops integrity is found to be bad later….? Then of course there is a big issue…with that specific cop…. But I have a newsflash for you? And it’s one you aren’t gonna likely love…. Most cops and their testimony and their statements, and what’s corroborated on their body cam, are honest people…they are. I’ve been on both sides.. The cop. And the defendant of a bad cop….so I can only hope you might appreciate my personal experience….its unique. Anyways. The statistics back up my assertions…. Cops are generally honest with their statements…. Polygraph evidence shows this, interviews with trained experts who know deception tells us this…and the fact that the public at large, generally has very very little evidence to the contrary, and you must know it too…and I’m sorry if that’s hard to accept. Cops in general are a cut above with their commitment to be sorta Boy Scout rule followers….most….not all. Remember m I’m using the most concept, which is still very very relevant…. I never will say any single group is all good or all bad. Not all those who commit crime, are bad people. Some are nicer and better than those who enforce law…I know this too. Peace
I work to Target and I can absolutely tell you that is one of the most high tech stores if you are in an aisle more than 30 seconds their cameras focus on you and they will follow you for the next 10 minutes to go to the store. You do not do not want to steal from them if you ever hear them say hard lines 4 and then you hear a number that is them saying security check a certain aisle more than likely people will go to that aisle and follow you around until you get so uncomfortable that you leave. They are not a place that you want to steal from. And that was in 2007 when I worked there so I'm sure that they're camera system and security is way better now
It's hard to care more about this than any other rampant crime. In California, we have brazen store smash and grabs, car break-ins, home burglaries, and nothing is done.
