The Original crew takes longboarding indoors, out of the New Jersey snow, for the winter. At Original longboard development never stops and new prototypes need to be tested, and proven, no matter what the weather decides... sometimes that requires some additional creativity and even more warehouse space.

Hell yeah. Change is good (overall!) and sans that unavoidable. The positive is that the ways we enjoy reality and connect to who we are don't change so much as we go along. The challenge is finding the old pen to write a new story that keeps us interested. See you on the hill man!

Totally. Do you know how to slide already or are you just learning? If you already know how to slide and are more of an intermediate, I would look at the Arbiter 36 as it gives you a lot of high end performance. That said if you don't know how to slide yet, or want easier slide initiation (harder to hang up) something like the Drop Freeride 41 or Maven 35 would help make your slide initiation at lot smoother as a beginner just learning.

Actually we have quite a lot of customers from the Netherlands as well as one of our best sponsored trick / freestyle skaters. Though it wasnt shot in the netherlands, we just filmed a video in Belgium featuring some riding that is based on flatland; ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FMYfVG0ZRFo.html Longboarding can still be a lot of fun for flat areas, but the type of board you are looking for and the type of riding you will do will be different from what you see on hills.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Well, you got the the riders part right. We have been investing in tricks, freestyle, riders who pursue them, and boards that are better for that style of riding years. Tricks, freestyle and having fun on flatland is what you are watching here. The Apex is NOT a dh board and it is a part time freeride board, but it is a full on freestyle deck. If you don't need tricks, don't get one, but don't talk like it's trash, that just isn't the case. It crushes this stuff.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
20mph is actually a pretty quick low end speed. Usually when someone is looking for 20mph+ they are going to be doing at least a little bit of higher speed stuff 30 to 35 and probably here and there going faster than that. If you are just getting into speeds like that I would take a look at the Maven 35. If you are a veteran though you should absolutely look at the Arbiter 36. Super cheap and a great high performance speed deck for advanced riders. Either would work well for you I think!
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
We look at all kinds of stuff. Obviously how well you are at riding, helps out a ton.. but we don't just sponsor anyone. We also want riders who longboard because they love the sport, they're passionate about the company they are riding for, and they get out in the community by going to events and whatever else to spread the stoke! Send us an email if you want to talk with the team manager! -Lindsay
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
Jeez Billy, I think you might be a little over board on this one. Skateboarding is what you make it, if you choose to make it longboarding thats your call. You can also choose to prefer one style to another, most of us do. That being said none of those choices be-little a specific group of people the way you dropping the F-Bomb does. While it may not offend you, but it certainly offends me. There are plenty of other places where BS like this will fly, this is not one of them.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
The boards are almost identical in weight with the AvRC lighter by a bit less than an ounce which is not nearly enough to make a it a deciding factor. Easier fliptricks are going to come on the AvRC though some people think the kicks actually provide too much pop for the Apex 34 length. For a smller rider I do not believe this will be the case and I still recommend the Apex 34 AvRC consistently to freestyle / freeide riders who are below 5'3''
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
Haha nah you got it right, only thing missing is a little description of the type of riding you want to do. For a general carving, cruising, not so serious fun loving type ride we recommend the Pintails, for you I would say the Pintail 40 would be right in your sweetspot as far as height / weight. Alternately if you are planning on getting into sliding and more serious riding the Freeride 41 or Drop Freeride 41 would fit you nicely. It just depends on what you want to do with that deck.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
"Big" stand ups are difficult on Original trucks BUT little stand ups are actually much much easier due to Original trucks easing initiation. That said the hook up that Original trucks increase makes holding longer stand ups more difficult. So. if you are learning to stand up slide there is no better truck to learn on...well maybe a drop-through'd caliber on the Drop Freeride. That said, Original are a very good intro to sliding.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
Yes in some ways, no in others. For the most part longboards have a longer wheelbase than skateboards meaning that your stance (for most beginners) will be in between your truck mounts as opposed to on top of them, or one foot on the tail one foot in the center (on a shortboard). This makes it easier to not kick the board out from under you. That being said longboards also generally use trucks that are more loose than shortboards. This allows you to turn more easily.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
Depends if you are planning on getting into sliding / downhill or not... and that will likely depend on whether you live some place flat or someplace with hills (or maybe even some place with crazy good hills). As a base recommendation the Apex series is a blend of carving (if you go Original trucks) freestyle and freeride (better freeride without Original trucks, at the cost of carving).
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
Even if you decide to get an Original this time, there isn't a need to look at it like switching. You can have one of each and in fact that is a really good place to get perspective on what each company is going for and how that relates to what you like to do. You can get a board with kicks from Original. The DK Apex 40 is 2 inches longer than the Tan Tien and has kicks. For something even more different load up the PKs on that Apex 40 and you will really add pop.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
Well, possibly : ) What type of riding are you looking to do? If you want to do some tricks, but you also want to carve cruise and do a little bit of sliding, the Apex 37 would be a great choice. Depending on whether you are going to grow a little bit more or stick with your 5'2'' you may want to go with the new DK Apex 34 which comes out in about two weeks. That would be a better freestyle / all around board for smaller riders, though the Apex 37 would certainly be an option as well.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Hey NTS, The Freeride 44 and Freeride 41 are relatively new so I don't believe you will see a sale on them any time in the near future. That said we did just change the pricing for spring to reflect the new upgrades in manufacturing, the Freeride 41 is now $99.00 while the Freeride 44 is 109$. Until we get the site updated you have to add to cart to see the price.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Hey Kate, Depends on the trucks, depends on the wheels, depends on the board and depends on the bushings (which depend on your weight). Topmounts are far from a one size fits all type of deal. That said they are serious performers when tuned right; See the Arbiter 36 video we just finished and uploaded. If you give some more info we can probably help out.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Sure Paul, what kind of hills are you riding? Big stufff, small, medium? Also how tall and how heavy are you? Do you know how to slide yet or are you just learning. We can definitely help out but need some more info for sure. Without knowing that stuff it would be way more of a guess than anything else. Just "a board for sliding and freeride" is pretty broad ; )
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, which is whats awesome about the world in general. We totally appreciate the support but a lot of times people take this the wrong way. The Apex is geared for a rider who wants tricks and freeride, but isn't into pure downhill. For that, it is amazing, and it sounds like you might agree haha
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
Hey, What you're talking about is pushing "mongo". Lots of people do it when they are learning to skate, and some people do it even after they get better! You might get some negative comments from people about it, but as long as you are skating and having fun, that's what matters most. Screw the haters and shred! - Bish

Hey, Our warehouse is used for many different things, skating being just one of them. Sometimes we have large shipments that come in which take up a lot of space that make skating difficult. We have visitors that come by and check it out, but for liability reasons, we cannot open the ramps for public use. If you want to come by and check it out though, feel free!
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
You can slide with any longboard, but like many things there are specific setups that work better for sliding then others. You can start on S8 trucks, like I did. They have a tight turning radius and help you initiate a slide. Once you get into sliding at faster speeds you can switch over to traditional trucks for more stability. -Joel
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
The two main differences are the length; Apex 37 = 37 inches DK Apex 40 = 40.75 inches And the DK. DK Apex 40 has double kicks (kick nose / kick tail) which is where the DK abbreviation comes from. The Apex 37 does NOT have those kicktails and as such is not currently quite as good for freestyle. Come fall we will be introducing a DK version of the Apex 37.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
@jman96ish The Apex 37 if your neighborhood is more flatland riding, and the Apex 40 if you're going to be riding hills and also freeriding. As for trucks and wheels, it's really personal preference. I like Bear trucks on my Apex because they're still easy to carve with but stable for hills. Wheels also depend, whether you want to slide or stick to the pavement.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
@xdraxelx Have you checked out our Apex 40? The double concave sounds perfect for the type of riding that you're looking to do! It's strong enough for freestyle tricks, and it also has kicks to help give you more torque. The double concave will give you a place to plant your feet when you want to bomb hills and slide.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
@Ethany8090 The Apex 40 middleweight may be a bit too stiff for you right now and it may be a bit difficult for you to maneuver at your size. We do plan on making a flyweight and a cruiserweight Apex 40 in the future. For you though, I think you would be best off with the Apex 37 flyweight. It would be 3 inches shorter, and a bit more flexy, making freestyle much easier.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
That would start you off for sure as far as cruising and carving are concerned. As a smaller rider the Pintail 37 is light, very low, easy to turn and easy to carry. You could also look at the Derringer 28 though that is more of a carving mini made for larger riders who want a smaller board.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
I would suggest the Rocker Concave Freeride 41 for your size. The rocker concave will be easier to get used to as a beginner but it will still lock you in well for sliding. I would say to get the Bear Grizzly trucks and purple stimulus wheels for a set-up that's easy to learn how to slide.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
Nah man, better is about what works for you. Do your thing and whatever is best for you.... and then love anyone who chooses to ride a board. We are all in it together. Longboarding, Skateboarding, whatever boarding, just go ride and enjoy it. We are with you!
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
our Malakai 40 and Torpedo 40 are both really fun for carving, are pretty flexy, and are good for cruising. The Pintail 37 and 40 are also good for cruising and carving, but are stiffer and more stable. You could go with any of those and you would be really happy!! Check them out!
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
The Drop Freeride 41 would be great for you. It's a great board to slide with. You'll freeriding skills will progress quickly with this board since it's lower to the ground and its concave keeps you locked in so you can really push into your slides.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
True, or check out the new Original Drop Freeride 41, longer, more wood, kicktails and the same price as the shorter Switchblade 36. Slightly deeper drop than the Switchblade. The Drop Freeride 41 will be releasing this week or next week, deck for $130.00
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
that all depends on the type of riding you are looking to do! If you're a beginner you can stick with the standard set up. You may want to upgrade your wheels if you are looking to slide, to a wheel that has a rounded edge and a harder durometer.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
the w and rocker options are for the Freeride boards. The W keeps the arch of your feet locked into the board to keep you stable while bombing hills. The Rocker concave is reverse camber. It pushes the trucks out slightly making sliding easy.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
Hey! I suggest either the Apex 34 or Apex 37 flyweight. The 37 is more durable because it has a carbon reinforcement bar, so it will not snap at the necks during freestyle tricks. The Apex 34 is a little bit lighter since it's all wood.. so it's up to you!
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
@JoeRomanowski1 The Apex 37 is a good board for all around performance, geared towards freestyle riding. You could get either the flyweight, or middleweight. The flyweight will be a bit more flexy and the middleweight would have more stability.
@originalskateboards

@ivabrac34 this board is great for flat land cruising, carving, and freestyle. I wouldn't recommend it down hills, so if you plan on riding some hills and doing freeriding as well then you may want to get the Apex 37 or the Freeride 38 with rocker.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
@Danoum001 Hey Daniel they are both amazing boards and worth the price. The apex 40 is better for freeriding but since your on a budget, you should check out or freeride boards. They are less freestlye based but kill it for freeriding!

@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
The Apex 34 would be a great board for some freestyle tricks and city riding. It's only 34 inches long so it's easy enough to maneuver quickly, its a great cruiser and carver, and it's symmetrical shaped for tricks.

you would like the Torpedo 40! It's pretty flexible so it carves easily! I recommend putting s8 trucks on it for a surfy feel and for a bit more stability during slides.

Our Hybrid 35 is a surf simulator, so you may want to check that out. You would also like the Torpedo 40, which is flexy and carves easily.

If your interested in doing freestyle then i suggest getting the Apex 37 since it's much more durable and has a carbon reinforcement bar.

The Apex 40 and Apex 37 will not snap during freestyle tricks or stomping hard landings because they have carbon reinforcement bars.

With your height and weight, I suggest checking out the Apex 40 for freestyle riding and for stability down hills and sliding.
