The Original Apex 40 Longboard. Board photos: www.facebook.co...
Some longboard testing needs a warehouse. Some longboard testing needs a Norwegian and a Jeep. This is not fake. Petter Reinem puts the Apex 40 DoubleConcave proto through it's paces while enjoying ample U.S. freedom.
The carbon fiber-reinforced Apex 40 will debut in two concave styles this December. $219 Deck, Longboard Complete starting at $319. Details soon to follow.

Camera guy thought the board broke and turned it off, then turned it on when he saw that it didnt.

Hey Sean, We actually warranty the Apex for an additional 6 months beyond any of our other boards (a full year) but more importantly we warranty it against all types of riding breakage. That is something that no one else in the industry does. Were you to buy a different board from a different company, and stomp a trick wrong / off the trucks, you would snap your board and not be under warranty. The Apex was built to absorb incorrect landings and unlucky drops, so you would be covered.

Hey everyone! I really hate to do this because I hate it when people do it but there are some guys that are just absolutely hilarious and they're excellent at longboarding. I just felt like helping them out because I was entertained for such a long period of time through their videos. They are a channel you can check out when you're bored like me most of my day. Really sorry to just make a comment that no one cares about (please forgive me) but these guys don' t have a lot of subscribers so just wanted to let you know about them. They do wheel reviews on downhill rides and give an in depth review about the wheel while they are riding them. They have a mike in their helmet with a car and some kind of GoPro setup on the hood. I don't know the exact details but no one really cares about that. The point is is that they are awesome and I just think they should get attention. They are called LongboardReviews. Thank you for reading, have a nice day, and go longboard!

Hey Slaw, The main thing to remember is that any board will flex, and for that reason a lot of boards will survive a roll over the middle of the deck. Whats so hilarious about this was the actual method of the impact which show cases the reinforcement in the neck of the board. If the neck had flexed the jeep would have rolled up and over the trucks / wheels but it stayed stiff, and didn't break. The Apex 37 actually uses more Carbon (by ratio) than the 40. Stiffer by a touch for the 37.

The Apex 40 starts at $219 for the deck, if you are into the newer drop style check out the DiamondDrop coming out later this month. This combined with the noseguards (PKs) which were just release for the Apex 40 truly define the board and make it unique in the industry. While there are a lot of double kicked boards out there with bamboo or composite construction, none of them have protection for their kicktails that adds serious performance for freestyle while also protecting the deck.

What wheels are those, no they are not flashbacks. I have flashbacks on my diamond drop. They are not brightly colored like that.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 9 лет назад
They are flashbacks for sure, the thing to remember about video is that every camera changes the color depending on what else is in the frame and how the color correction is done. This image has a lot of reds and browns so greens are going to contrast with that and look super bright / neony. Hence the super green flashbacks.

Longboards by Original Skateboards ok, cool. Guess I have the wheels then :)
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
This was the Apex 40 DoubleConcave, Aside from the nose and tail damage sustained from impact which is only a very slight improvement over a traditional maple or composite construction (the improvement being fixability) the Apex 40 is going to be drastically stronger through the neck and body than you might think. After inspection of the board in the video I believe that your Apex 40 would in fact survive this were the same impact to occur.

There is no crack in this board and it is on my wall in my office with a giant burn mark where it dragged across the pavement (which you can see in the video). It was ridden for the rest of the prototyping season after this was shot, Nick turned off the camera for a second when he thought the deck broke but turned it back on when he realized it didn't.

@squack921 If you are happy with your wood boards performance you are not the customer we built the Apex 40 for. If you have ever broken enough wooden decks to question whether it is worth learning that trick that was causing the breakage, that would be a different story. Buying multiple wood decks (after you break them) is absolutely an option. Also keep in mind this is a 1 off. One board to mold that does not lose shape. That may or may not have value to you.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
Hey! The Apex 40 isn't just made out of wood, it also has carbon, which makes the price go up. Also, between the concaves, the kicks, the gas pedals, and the entire structure of the board, only one board can be pressed at a time, unlike other boards that can have multiple ones made at once. The process of creating this board is takes time, and there is much more going into it. Really, what you are paying for isn't that expensive for an all-performance, durable board, that will not limit you.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
@gaminginfofornoobs Depends on whether you are talking about riding downhill or racing downhill. Riding downhill (under 25 to 35mph) can be done on almost any longboard. We make more than a few that would work well when you combine that with carving and some sliding. Racing downhill is more specifically oriented toward speed with equipment made by many specialty brands who focus on that section of the sport. Right now we do not make a racing specific deck.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
@longboardingdays847 the Apex 40 with double concave would be a great board for you. It's a strong board that won't snap during freestyle riding, and the double concave keeps your feel locked in during freeriding.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
37 is made using identical materials to the 40, the only difference being that the Apex 40 needs more fiberglass / carbon to keep it stiffer at the longer wheelbase that it is setup to use.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Freeriding means riding down hills at higher speeds while doing slides and tricks. But, since you said you're not looking to do tricks, I think you mean you're looking to just cruise and carve. If that's the case, check out the Pintail 40! It's a great board to learn on and it is meant for cruising and carving purposes. -Lindsay
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Yeah man, the funny thing is that I took that board over from Petter when he went back to Norway and rode it for another year straight before retiring it for a new one (since it made sense to have a production board with a graphic for hitting up events etc). Solid boards to be sure.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Dah! Say it ain't so Victor! Getting your deck jacked is a pretty sure fire way to ruin a day. I had one of the first boards we ever made stolen from the back of my car a couple years back. Sucks. Not sure if you caught the new Apex DiamondDrop video but carving is a really important part of the Apex. Sure it can slide and I think its one of the most high powered trick boards of all time, but carving is key fo sho. We can probably help with a discount since your deck got ripped, callup
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
@SpeakLikeBatman That would depend on the board you want to buy. If you aren't into the Apex ($219) but still want 3 times the press times, low stack sizes for concave accuracy and all A grade veneers you could choose to go with the Freeride 41, or Freeride 38. $120 Deck / $130 Deck should give you more than enough room to build out whatever setup you are looking for, assuming you are prepared to pay for the extra quality / machine / press time.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
@WargasmJewce you would get a good amount of flex, but you do not have to worry about the board being too flexy and bottoming out because it hard a carbon reinforcement bar.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
@BlackRougeTactics If your more into freeriding you should go with the freeride. The difference between the Av and the double concave is the double concave is more geared for speed/freeriding.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
@mufmaxtv It isn't a cheap way to diver the conversation. It is the reality of riding the way we ride. If you downhill, you know that there is no correlation what-so-ever between wheels and decks. That is because you aren't abusing your deck, not because your deck is stronger (or strong enough to do what we do). Most of us aren't downhill racers, We ride differently. That wears boards (and wheels) differently. If you race, or if you don't break boards, this board is not for you.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
@iiGnut Besides the 3 inch difference, the Apex 37 is also a bit lighter and more for flat land freestyle. The Apex 40 has kicks and comes in two different concaves, av rocker and double concave.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
@ericthegamer10 as posted a few comments down: Both concaves include kick tails, gas pedals, and a carbon reinforcement bar. Either concave is fine for freestyle and freeriding, but the double concave is geared more towards speed. It locks your feet into the boar for slides. The AV Rocker has taller kicks and is better for freestyle riding.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
@PayneKillerxD It's really personal choice and it depends on the type of riding you are more interested in doing. The 40 is a bit easier for freeriding since it comes with the double concave, and it also has kicks which helps for freestyle riding, however, it's a bit heavier than the Apex 37.
@originalskateboards

@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
@WoleeJolee you can use Original trucks with the double concave! If you plan on freeriding you may want to go straight to the white springs for a bit more stability.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
@techplusxbox they're both a lot of fun. If you really can't choose, rocker if you plan on doing more freestyle, and double concave if you plan on doing more freeriding. However, either concave can do both types of riding!
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
@Taco538 the Pintail 43 would be a good board for you to learn on! It's a stiffer, stable board, that's low to the ground to make pushing easy. Put some white heavy tension springs in your trucks for a higher resistance and you'll still be able to carve and be stable

@BLXFrandy The Tan Tien has a bit more flex since it's made with bamboo and is great for carving. The Apex 40 is a bit stiffer and more durable since it has a carbon reinforcement bar. It also offers two concaves. The double concave would be a great choice for you since you're looking to ride hills since it offers comfy foot placement.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
@LifesVids When you think about price, think about wheels first. How many sets of wheels does your board last you? Prior to the Apex 40 we went through 2-4 four sets of wheels per $120 wooden Freeride deck. That means we "spent" $80 to $200 on wheels. Under the same, more rigorous, freestyle ridding the Apex 40 pushes 7-15 sets, or $280 to $600. That is loading an inexpensive $40 set of wheels. The focus on over priced goods should target urethane, our carbon is doing it's job.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
@TheProjectLongboard This board is great for freestyle tricks. You could get either concave, but the AVrocker is geared towards freestyle.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
DoubleConcave is more suited for all-around riding and freeride, the AvRockerConcave is wedge making turning easier at slower speeds which is good for a freestyle board. So. Freestyle and tricks: AvRockerConcave, all-around with some freeride: Apex 40 DoubleConcave.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
@BunckenburgT you could do freestyle with either concave, however, the av rocker is geared more towards freestyle and its kicks are a bit higher to help with torque.

@captain045 Both concaves include kick tails, gas pedals, and a carbon reinforcement bar. Either concave is fine for freestyle and freeriding, but the double concave is geared more towards speed. Because the flex is not to handle a truck, the flex is to handle the weight of the rider and to provide the intended control and performance. Once you go outside the downhill box flex is not a bad thing, particularly when you control the exact location of the flex like we do. We are the only company I know of CNCing our fibers to achieve that, but it has to do with performance, not just strength. They can survive many impacts BUT they are designed to be skated, not run over haha
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
@kmacuslegotacular the Freeride with rocker concave. The reverse camber pushes the trucks outwards enough to make sliding easy.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
@squack921 You are welcome to go with a wood board, but we have done the math on the value the construction adds, particularly for freestyle. You are spending more money per year (averaged) on boards by buying wood boards assuming you ride often enough to break them. While the factor of improvement (Quad-Ax+Carbon) over a fiberglass board is no where near that of the improvement you see over wood, you are still spending more year over year buying something else.

The boards are the exact same construction, so, yes. In theory haha The DiamondDrop is a significantly stiffer, due to concave design, when compared to the DoubleConcave and AvRockerConcave. That said, the materials are the same, so in the case of a catastrophic impact (like this one) they *should* react the exact same way, though the only way to know would be to try it (which would take way too long to replicated given that this whole thing happened by accident) _Scott

@pncho54 It's pretty snappy for freestyle tricks. It's not super flexy, and it's stiff enough for freeriding control.
@originalskateboards
@originalskateboards 12 лет назад
@HackYourFace yes, but certain types of decks, trucks, and wheels will help make sliding easier. 78a wheels are very soft and tend to grip the the pavement. Usually, you want to look for a wheel with rounded edges and a hard durometer, above 80a. As for your deck, some decks are specifically designed for sliding, such as our Freeride decks.

@GayRalphie You could either get the Apex 40 with rocker if you're more interested in doing freestyle riding and some freeriding. @jevlaretards When I was first starting out I liked having a board that had stability under me, so the pintails are an easier board to learn on. @originalskateboards 11 лет назад
Nah man, you can totally turn the Drop Freeride. No doubt about that. The Apex is certainly more tuned for carving than the Drop Freeride 41, BUT the drop in the freeride actually helps it in carving if you ask me. I know the traditional theory is that drops make a board carve worse, I just dont feel that way. Particularly top mounted you can get a ton of leverage off the wide platform when you wedge up to the drops. That said, are you doing a lot of freestyle tricks? If so, go APEX.
@CaseCorso

@SlurryMadA What I'm saying is that flex in relation to a two ton SUV has nothing to do with flex in relation to a 150 pound rider. This isn't showing that the board has too much flex like people are saying. This is actually a pretty stiff board. Because its showing how the board can tough through the most extreme of a situation shows durability.

@jevlaretards Hey! If you're looking for a good cruising board in the city I recommend checking out either the Pintail 37 or 40. They are 7 plys, so they're a bit stiff giving you stability, and they are lower to the ground, making pushing easy. They are also small enough to carve aggressively with when needed.
@SlurryMadA

@CaseyCMF It's flex. Durability is when a stiff board goes under a car and survives with only bent trucks. My Earthwing Belly Racer did that.

@Joegreenfrog I know it is hard to believe but the margins on our carbon boards are already industry worsts. There is a reason no one else is doing it and it has nothing to do with the boards being good or bad. It is currently significantly more profitable to make either bamboo or maple wood boards. I made $15,000 total (full time) over the first four years we ran Original. I loved every minute of it. If you are looking for money hungry you are going to have to look else where.

The hype is mainly from the freestyle freeride community. The speed is pretty specific. Of you aren't killing your boards via tricks or early grabs, or you don't really want trails odds are good there is a better board put there. On the other hand if you are thrashing your decks on freestyle there is no stronger deck out there, which I guess would be the hype?

@stsfbh AvRockerConcave would work better for you. If you hedge toward freestyle at all the rocker loosens the board up and is an advantage (at least I think it is). Everyone has their personal preference though. Your best case scenario is to ride both of them (if you can find someone who has them) and then pick based on your own experience. Sans that; Freestyle = AvRC, Freeride = DC.

Ironically enough, I knew how solid these boards were a long time ago, friend of mine's board got backed over when we were chilling in a parking lot around a year ago, it was a torpedo 40, it bent like that, snapped right back into shape, and was fine, but the trucks made horrid creaking noises after awhile, and eventually he replaced it.

We made boards specific to carving and slower speed tech freeride for a long time, that certainly wasn't the direction of the silverfish community but it was where we wanted to go. If you are trying to DH on a carving deck, you arent going to like it. You also have brand preference and politics. At this point I dont see any reason for hate, particularly with the $99 DH Arbiter etc.

Yes it would... the Apex 37 Double Concave has a carbon fiber strip down the middle of the board just like the 40... Same construction just different dimensions! _Molly

I would agree to some extent. Most Original boards feel like plastic, but some say the Apex is an exception.

@willissoverycoollike I personally prefer the stims over durians for sliding, but mainly because they're a little smaller.

@JohannesSAalholm Give Black Diamond a call, I think they have Apex 40s coming in, I am sure they can help out (who knows maybe it hasn't shipped yet?)

A lot of boards can take this, but the trucks did a really great job!

They are expensive but good quality i absolutley love loaded boards they're great. I did the same thing in this video with my dervish and it was fine aftwards, but personally i like all longboards in general, no one should trash talk about any longboard they're all fun to ride around and bust some sleezy moves. Btw you can order clear grip tape or usually a local board shop carries it, you can also get spray on clear grip, you'll just have to remove the original grip.

@hockeydude673 the Freeride 38 with rocker concave would be a good board for you if you're looking to do some freeriding

Wow Everyone is hating against original! in my opinion they make decent boards, but thats not even what longboarding is about. it's about enjoying the ride and having flow.

I'd check out the Apex 37 DiamondDrop. If you check out some of the new riding in the "Longboarding Oslo Session" video or hit up the youtube / rideralliance channel you can get a sense of the type of stuff the guys are doing these days. Seriously insane combinations of fliptricks, dancing and freeride. Sounds like its right up your alley but check out those videos and see what you think.

To keep people from saying it's fake, you should have showed the truck backing off of the board and had the kid riding the board in the same take! The editing seems funny there! Awesome tough board though!!

@hockeydude673 Hey if you want to slide and for your size, I suggest getting one of our 38" freeride boards.
