Yes, this ride is rough, BUT: (1) It's a wooden coaster, and (2) It's themed as an escape train from the Apocalypse. Do you really expect a super-smooth ride?
This ride is pretty freaking fast, Whenever I think of a wooden coaster I think of it going at a nice pace ( though Almost every wooden coaster is bumpy as SHIT) I never expected it to be this fast not to mention the waiting room and all the decorations and scenery around it makes you feel like your actually in the scene of a zombie apocalypse, along with the tunnels and " sectors" before you get on the ride. I'd give this ride a pretty nice rating, it doesnt give you the tingle you get on a HUGE rollarcoaster, but its indeed still very enjoyable and it does give you a nice thrill. I do enjoy this ride, though the only thing I'd change is maybe make it less bumpy? ( though as I said before almost all wooden coasters are bumpy and thrash you around :P) Plus this is pretty much the ONLY all/purely wooden roller coaster at sixflags ever since they turned colossus into a hybrid coaster.
+RuBix CuBe The really nice decorations and atmosphere was actually because before it was "apocalypse", it was a themed coaster for Terminator: Salvation and the videos would actually be Moon Bloodgood leading you around the area until it was under attack and you had to escape through the coaster.
"WAAAAH! SHAKEY COASTER! WAAAAAAAH!" Shut up crybabies. That's the point of a woody. If it's too intense for you go hop on the kiddy coasters at bugs bunny world, make sure to bring your pacifier.
FYI - the name was changed in order to get away from licensing agreements to use the "Terminator" name. You gotta pay money for that, and Six Flags went through Chapter 11 restructuring. So I believe that's why it was rebranded.
Six Flags never filed Chapter 11, Magic Mtn and other parks were up for sale to prevent filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Six Flags ended the licensing agreements themselves and changed the name of the ride. When it was discovered real estate developers wanted to demolish the entire park and build houses, Six Flags said no way. In the end, Six Flags sold off 6 other parks and kept Magic Mtn because the park was making money while others were losing money. So they got rid of the parks losing money.
Peter Hillman While you are right about the potential sale of Magic Mountain you are wrong about Chapter 11 filing. The other parks were sold to help pay off the company's debt but it wasn't enough. About 2-3 years after the park sell off the company did file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to restructure their corporate dept. When a new board of directors took control, licensing agreements were terminated to cut cost. A similar example can be seen when they changed the name of Thomas Town to Whistle Stop park. they wanted to end their licensing agreement to use the characters from Thomas and Friends.
@sharpproductions it seems you didn't visit Six Flags New England. I looked for your videos because your filmography is amazing and none of them were there.
Psyclone was damaged during the northridge earthquake. It was never the same after that and felt rickety and bumpy. It had been deteriorating for a long time and it just needed to go.
I rode this coaster before and the last time I went on the ride got stuck just before the drop, it was so hot up there we got stuck for about half and hour or more, and the sun was just pounding on us, afterwards me and my family had headaches from the heat and roughness of the coaster
@sharpproductions ah but it's a wooden coaster... I'd definetly say something like 8+(ir rather, whenever you meet the length requirement) because there are no really scary elements... I used to go on wooden coasters when I was a kid too(they were the only coasters I dared to go on, lol)
@MrElectricfever they didn't want to keep paying whatever company they were paying to keep the terminator theme. So typical Six Flags, not caring about their customers and caring more about money, changed the theming and took away some special effects. Atleast they kept the fire effect. It doesn't ruin the experience though, I rode it as Apocalypse and I loved it! (But then again, I had a platinum flash pass so I didn't have to wait in almost any line and got to ride twice, so...)
@98AllyKat If you really love roller coasters, and show little to no fear on most of them, then I would say ride it. If you're asking for an age, I would say a minimum of 11 or 12. (:
@SSXSuperMan it's so hard to do that. I go every year and it's never crowded when I go but you still can't ride all 16 unless you stay from opening to closing. Think about it, the major ride waits are usually ranging from 45-1 hour so that's one hour for every ride. Except X2 that line is usually 3-4 hours. So good luck
@SSXSuperMan Currently, there are 16 roller coasters there, but by the end of this year Magic Mountain will take back the title of the most roller coasters in the world when they unvail Green Lantern: First Flight and Road Runner Express, thus bringing the total up to 18 roller coasters.
Yes it was. Recently the new corporate management of Six Flags Inc, dropped all their licensing agreements to rides like Tony Hawk, Thomas Tank Engine and I guess Terminator. If I'm correct they still kept the DC COMIC names.
wow u know tht feeling you get when ur standing in line for a ride. u get all jittery? i just got that feeling and its just a video of him standing in line! im soo weird
@castmemberzack That's absolutely not the case. Universal Studios Hollywood has NO influence in that. The ride was based off of a movie.... and it was made by columbia pictures!!!! The reason the Terminator Theme was removed was because there was a huge expiration this season of many licensed things in Six Flags. Tony Hawk, Thomas The Tank, Terminator, Papa Johns (i think) and a bunch of other stuff.
I really loved this ride. I was a bit upset when it replaced Terminator Salvation: The Ride, but once I rode it I forgot all about the ride that used to be there. The part I liked most was that the ride actually went THROUGH the waiting area. That was fucking epic. I lost my sunglasses on that ride though. ):
@bohrokthunder But 'Golliath' is steel, and a GREAT name. 'Revolution' is steel, and a GREAT name. Those are 2 great named steel coasters at Magic. Aside from those facts, I thought you meant steel coasters in general, not just at Magic Mountain.
@sharpproductions My little brother is turning 9 and I'm taking him to six flags. if he couldnt handle colossus when he was 8, do you think he could handle this one?
@sharpproductions Really the changed it??? Was it not doing well so they rethemed it??? The Terminator theme was good because there was music and effects and all.
I'm guessing they only had it called "Terminator" because it was when the latest movie was new and popular, now it's not that popular anymore so they changed it.
Sharp . . . . as someone who hasn't been to Magic Mountain (I live in Maryland, so Six Flags America near DC is my homepark; but I've done a solo day trip to SFGA in New Jersey), overall, how are the coasters there compared to the other parks in the SF chain? And what about wait lines?
SFMM is world-renowned for its incredible coasters rivaling Cedar Point and CW. SFMM is arguably the best of the SF chain, although it can get pretty busy. There is over 20 coasters, 19 of which have broken records. However, don't plan on bringing kids, as about 95% of the rides are incredibly high intensity. The park is definitely more for the coaster enthusiast. If you're planning a trip, make SURE to ride X2, Tatsu, and Full Throttle!
This ride is like riding a jack hammer lol. The first time I rode it, it was bumpy, but comfortable. I went to Magic Mountain yesterday, and it was so harsh, it gave my younger sister a migraine.
