The Sally and Ralph Duchin Memorial Campus Lecture Series welcomes Dr. J Edward Wright, Ph.D., Director of The Arizona Center for Judaic Studies at @uarizona with his lecture titled "Apocalyptic Politics".
Divisive politics, social unrest, climate change, wars and rumors of wars-it sounds as if the world is unraveling. In this presentation Wright will explore how and why apocalyptic themes and motifs appear during times of socio-economic and political upheaval. Using examples from ancient and modern societies, he will explain the power of apocalyptic ideologies in both arousing people to action and assuaging people's fears for themselves and their society.
Ed Wright is Professor of Hebrew Bible and Early Judaism and has served as the Director of the Arizona Center for Judaic Studies at The University of Arizona since 2000. Wright received his Ph.D. from Brandeis University and did additional graduate study at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Harvard Divinity School. Prof. Wright’s area of expertise is early Jewish history and religion with particular interest in early Jewish apocryphal texts.
