Shortly after the launch of the Apollo 12 mission, lightning struck the Apollo Saturn V rocket causing major electrical malfunctions and panic amongst the astronauts and engineers, jeopardizing the mission. Fortunately, a steely eyed missile man named John Aaron was able to call out the famous SCE to AUX command allowing the on board astronauts to switch the Apollo 12 command module's SCE to Auxiliary power.

Sky-diving from the edge of space! Does someone reach "terminal velocity" (and what is it)? Is it possible for a human to break the sound barrier unaided?

What holds down a rocket on the launch pad and prevents them from falling over?

@@kenjiokura7601 Hold down clamps. Released during launch. Tower rockets have umbilicals but these are mainly to transfer propellants.

@@framryk8537 Thanks! I knew there were clamps or something but I'm curious about different designs (Shuttle was bolted down at the SRB's vs. other rockets) and thought it would be something interesting to cover maybe! Cause it pretty cool how much mass they have to hold down.

How on *Earth* did you manage to get all that information, superb graphics, historical accounts and science across in about 2 minutes? Well done! (PS: you were right in the bloopers with "over-classed" cloud. In the UK we have 40 words and phrases for cloud and rain lol).

Thanks!!! I'm not so sure about the fitting it all in within 2 minutes though! 😂😂

Working on From The Earth to the Moon - I asked Al Bean if it was as easy as this... He said no, there were other procedures. But John Aaron did figure out the remedy. Hanging out with the three a few times - and much more time with consultant Dave Scott - was mind blowing. Amazing men. Amazing journey.

Wow, scary. Love this new format, Tory! I've often wondered if the ISS has ever gotten hit by asteroids, or space debris. If so, can the astronauts feel it?

This is exactly why they have rules against launching in thick overcast skies now, just as you said!

I'm 65 and I've seen this info before. Already knew about the SCE switch. I was really expecting something new that wasn't well known about this flight. That's okay. Nice video, though.

Straight from the fact file! #SpaceLobster was a stream blooper from SpaceX Falcon Heavy when a Red Lobster ad interrupted! See the clips here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TLOZPoVV04A.html and ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TLOZPoVV04A.html

AC-67 (a few years later) failed because it was struck by lightning, the lightning caused a computer to glitch and send a “erroneous hardover yaw command” which overstressed the Atlas Centaur and caused it to fail...so yeah don’t launch when it’s not safe. Glad the same thing didn’t happen here. Hope SpaceX doesn’t become complacent (not saying they are) with their pretty good launch success rate the last three years especially now that they can carry crew.

Kenji Okura - it is interesting how a government run organization (NASA) can mess things up. Being in the Army myself, it is because they don’t allow the team to put their opinions or insights in the mix. A civilian run organization is more likely to entertain the lowest work’s opinion or concern.

Well that really woke me up. With new Safety rules can this happen again? I feel old. I used to draw those type of instramentation panels on Drafting Board until we Switched to Autocad release 11. Now we have the touch screen. ? How does that apply to today's design? That was a great clip. Thanks for replay. 🥰👍
