That's one of the things I love about this show. First and foremost, it's two of the world's best magicians enjoying other people perform their craft. It's a competition show second.
Considering this is like the fifth time a variation of this act has been performed on fool us, it's not a surprise that it did not fool. The fake injuries were a nice addition though.
I’ll be doing a behind the scenes and commentary about my performance in the next video! Subscribe to stay updated! I also love of your theories on how it’s actually done! Keep ‘em coming! Thank you all!
Key words were "choice of magicians", i.e. "magician's choice" and "marked". You know which envelope contains the blade and since it can appear in the assistant's hands at various stages, you have multiple scenarios for each of them.
Nice act! Please be careful out there. There are versions of this very trick (with knives or spikes) which have gone wrong, as you pointed out in your intro.
I think it was Harry Houdini who said "I would never do anything more dangerous than sitting in my living room". I know P&T say something similar...but you sure made that look dangerous and defo fooled me. Wonderful illusion/trick.
P&T think it's morally wrong to put actual danger into an act, and they won't allow it on the show. I respect that. This was a great trick, though. Very well presented, and the strawberry jam at the end was a fun twist.
@@davidwalter2002 There is a wonderful trick/illusion P&T did on the Connan show where they use razor blades. I do know how they did it but I would highly recommend it as a perfect example of how you can do something that looks really dangerous but in fact...it is "no more dangerous than sitting in your living room" 😉....thanks for reply.
@@dazuk1969 I vaguely remember that one, gonna (re)watch it right now, but when I think about seemingly dangerous magic acts from P&T I always remember the "catching a bullet with their teeth" one. I loved that one, and from what I remember it's what brought me to P&T.
Great job my brotha! U always had that showmanship going 4 u, even back from when we worked 2gether at Marvin's Magic. I'm beyond proud of u man, and so proud 2 tell everyone..."I know that guy!"👍🏾
My thoughts are either: A) every envelope had a foil disc in it that was smashable, the grapefruit demonstration at the beginning was just a ploy, or B) envelopes were marked a lá the traditional smashing your hand on a Styrofoam cup trick
I initially thought of putting foil blades in every envelope to sort of, throw them off but the handling got too complicated for my taste so I just stuck to my original Deliberation method.
@@oneanddone7992 The blade was in there. The envelope with the blade in it was marked. He gave Alyson mirrored glasses so he could see which one was marked.
Great act, it's a shame that Teller had you sussed but, he's one of the greats, not much is going to get past him. One thing no one mentioned is that you have lots of charisma and great stage presence. Sure, you're an excellent magician, but you could get up on stage and read out a booklet of instructions for a washing machine and people would still pay attention. You can't learn that, you either have it or you don't, and you have it in spades. So keep going mate, though you didn't fool 'em, I think we'll be seeing a lot more of you. All the best from England.
If one of the envelopes has the blade, he only smashes a single one. Watch the first envelope that he doesn't smash. Allison grabs two new ones, but doesn't put the first back on the stack with the others, it's off to the side a bit. He smashes both that round. The third round, you can see her pick it up in her left hand. And this time, he smashes only one, the one in her right hand.
I know it's a trick, but it makes me nervous having someone else handle the props. Hopefully, he switched out the saw for a blunted one just in case...
There were no creases on any of them beforehand. Alyson handled the envelopes with cut resistant gloves on so she just happened to crease one of the empty ones by accident.
I think you used the common trick of "illusion of free will". Most likely you swapped the blade, it was never in any of the envelopes, because when you let her pick for you, this is where things can go wrong if you reall let her pick, altho it was unclear to me if she should have lowered the one you going to smash or the one that has blade in it, so maybe it was multiple outs. strawberry jam was a nice touch tho.
The blade was most definitely in one of the envelopes and I was in REAL danger if I had the slightest brain fog. It wouldn’t have been strawberry jam squirting out if I hit the wrong one 😅
There are also Infrared Contact Lenses that can see luminous inks that are invisible to the naked eye. Combine that with the mirrored Safety Goggles Allison was wearing, just need one side of the envelope marked.
Well you’re the only one who got the method so I want to send you some magic tricks. I’ll give you different options. Also, I don’t get a lot of emails from my youtube viewers…
Well…if I had a sudden lapse in judgment and hit the wrong one, that rotary blade would’ve definitely penetrated my skin. It almost happened to me during a trial run while smashing the envelope with grapefruits😅
Nice performance, and great choice of trick to try and fool P&T given there is 2 very different ways of doing this, they had a 50/50 choice, unfortunately got it right!
Damn... This performance was amazing, I got fooled by Apollo, even if he try personally to me, he will scare the shit of me with that, congratulations Apollo, keep it up and go for more
He knew it was there and if it were in the lower hand he would hit top and if on top he would hit bottom. No matter what she picks there is always a new empty envelope to smash and when she had 2 empty he smashed both knowing they were good if 1 were the blade he would have only smashed 1
Good thing she put the safety gloves on before going back onstage because if she did not put the safety gloves on before going back onstage then it would've gone badly when she tries to attempt to release the blade from the sixth envelope causing her to have a blade cut.
When he told her to lower the arm, that made me think it wasn't a magician's choice. But according to Penn and Teller, apparently it was. Magician's choice with marked envelopes is certainly the simplest way to do it. When she lowered an arm, I thought he had probably done it by switching the blade with something not dangerous instead, like a rubber blade with some kind of crust coating that could look real enough to Alison but not be dangerous when smashed. But according to Penn and Teller, he did it the other way.
At 5:15 he tells her to lower a hand and she lowers her right hand as if he is intended to squash that envelope. Later at 5:30 he instead has her further lower that hand and squashes the left hand envelope.
I think the way he does it is by just saying "lower your hand" without clarifying if that indicates to use or exclude the lowered envelope. From there he can just pick whichever envelope he wants and count on the social pressure of a live performance to stop the person from correcting him on which envelope the participant intended, and in even the participant's mind it comes off as miscommunication rather than a force
@@rheawelsh4142 Yeah, clearly that's the magician's choice. But it's a risky one because one of the two options is more awkward. Doesn't look as natural. But it's a high risk/high reward because if he gets the more natural looking choice, the magician's choice is harder to detect.
Nope…Teller got me on a technicality. There was a moment that was cut out of the performance where he and I had a conversation in the middle of the verdict…but Im not going to publicize what he said out of respect to my idols.
This is the closest thing to what I have on my channel so far: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8Ry_YwS8YRE.htmlfeature=shared Btw, thanks for the suggestion!😎
Psychology says, no matter what happen, Human nature will be greater than anyone, ALLISON CHOOSE THE ENVELOP CAREFULLY FOR THE ACT, ALLISON IS A PROFESSIONAL, SHE DONT WANT ANY ACCIDENT HAPPEN
@@rachelclegg79 but yes the spectator does feel the weight difference. I usually fake them out by pretending to go for the one with the blade in it…it really freaks em out 🤣
@@apolloriegomagic well, ultimately it worked and it was amazing 🤩 I was only curious because I am new to magic and am very paranoid about anything I do being spotted immediately. So thank you for your reply 😊
Aww that was nice of Apollo to help Alyson to get the surgeon glasses out of her surgeon coat pocket for her but I wonder why he got the surgeon glasses out of her surgeon coat pocket for her I mean she could've done it herself like she could've just handed him the envelopes so she could get them out of her pocket, put them on and then Apollo gives her back the envelopes once her surgeon glasses were on.
