Also, Elder Neil Andersen spoke in General Conference April 2022 about being peacmakers. He said "Peacemakers are not passive; they are persuasive in the Savior's way." He also said. "How does a peacemaker calm and cool the fiery darts? Certainly not by shrinking before those who disparage us. Rather, we remain confident in our faith, sharing our beliefs with conviction but always void of anger or malice."

Amen brother David, too many LDS are afraid to defend the truth of the restored gospel and shamefully hide their candle under a bushel. We have to boldly testify of the truth and be valiant in the testimony of Christ if we want to rid our garments from the sins of the world, but we also need to beware of pride and need to be careful not to entertain foolish claims put forth by dishonest gainsayers who only wish to sow the sseds of doubt.

Very good point David. I believe far too many members do not defend the restored church due to this belief on contention but it Truth is so easily dismissed then far more of our Heavenly fathers children will be decieved a give up. It’s time the defenders of the faith step forward and endure some persecution for the faith and practice of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

What I would like to have in my hands to study and refer to is a document that states evangelical beliefs and the few scriptures they use to justify their doctrine and then a statement on our belief on the doctrine with the plethora of scriptures we have to blow out of the water the evangelical's erroneous beliefs. For example: Topic - Trinity and where we can show the vast amount of scripture from the Bible to denounce their deception. Then next topic: Bible Only: Then have a plethora of Bible and historical references we can study to present and denounce Bible Only. Apostasy and Restoration: A) The Christian couple of verses that they cling to and then B) The plethora of Bible verses and historical need that the apostasy occurred and the references as to the fact that it would be restored. Etc, etc for each doctrine we have, and the doctrine Evangelicals have with their associated verses and evidences. In other words, if we each had a comprehensive, at a glance chart we can refer to and study so we can put that in our hearts and then be able to contend and denounce effectively with power and love.

Contention means "heated disagreement". So we stay calm, and loving to avoid contention, but we don't stop defending our faith as Christ demonstrated. But there are times we need to shut our mouths as Jesus did before Herod. (Luke 23:9)

Dear David Again There is a different between contention and confronting, confronting with the truth. Use of which avoids the use of the word contention.
@jeff3olsen
@jeff3olsen Месяц назад
The over-emphasis on avoiding contention and the neglect of defending truth becomes a "cloaking virtue" that is often manipulated to conveniently avoid scrutiny or honest & sincere examination. Avoiding contention is often accompanied by virtue-signalling and cowardice. Elder Pingree's comments are profound to me: "How we teach truth really matters. Paul encouraged us to speak “the truth in love” (see Ephesians 4:14-15). Truth has the best chance of blessing another when conveyed with Christlike love. Truth taught without love can cause feelings of judgment, discouragement, and loneliness. It often leads to resentment and division-even conflict. On the other hand, love without truth is hollow and lacks the promise of growth. Both truth and love are essential for our spiritual development. Truth provides the doctrine, principles, and laws necessary to gain eternal life, while love engenders the motivation needed to embrace and act upon what is true." - Oct 2023 General Conference

Certainly there is a great need to be able to connect the dots. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is comprehensive meaning the gospel message is connected to various scriptures all supporting the truths as brought forth through his living apostles and prophets as well as the Greatest words ever spoken by our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. I believe you are doing a great work in testifying of the many truths contained in the scriptures and certainly David you would be a valuable asset in teaching and inspiring missionary’s at the mission training center their in Provo Utah.(: You can give fish to others once you ve mastered the art of fishing but it’s far more valuable to teach others how to go about using the scriptures and one’s testimony as how to proclaim and defend truth. Defending in this sense it to take a firm stance recognized by one to whom they are speaking that this moment is sacred as truth is spoken and testified pointing the way to the source of all light and truth(:

0:40 ❤ I would change the phrase "embrace argument" to "embrace open discussion or debate". The word "Argument" often implies contention, which grieves the Holy Ghost and causes Him to withdraw. We must "teach by the Comforter" (D & C 28 : 1, 4) so that "both he that teacheth and he that receiveth may be edified." 😊

David, I really really enjoy your testimony and your teachings. I listen to you regularly. I really feel strongly that you should write a book on how to earnestly contend with the spirit in proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ. I think it would be an invaluable book for all missionaries and other members of the church to talk in their neighbors I envision the book having lists of scriptural references that evangelical Christians use against the church as well as a list of the New Testament scriptures that evangelicals ignore, and that latter-day saint missionaries could use to have a loving conversation while trying to contend and defend the truth . with much love, Paul Riley

In the book of Mormon Gideon contended with an antichrist, he was an instrument in the hands of God (Alma 1) 7 And it came to pass as he was going, to preach to those who believed on his word, he met a man who belonged to the church of God, yea, even one of their teachers; and he began to contend with him sharply, that he might lead away the people of the church; but the man withstood him, admonishing him with the words of God. 8 Now the name of the man was Gideon; and it was he who was an instrument in the hands of God in delivering the people of Limhi out of bondage. 9 Now, because Gideon withstood him with the words of God he was wroth with Gideon, and drew his sword and began to smite him. Now Gideon being stricken with many years, therefore he was not able to withstand his blows, therefore he was slain by the sword.

Can you do a video about temple ceremonies and handshakes. I know as a member you are probably not able to share everything. Alyssa Grenfall is another RU-vidr exposing what happens n the temple and these ceremonies. Seems kind of cult like. We need to know certain handshakes to go to heaven? I understand some of this could be misconstrued, so would love someone to help answer.
@justiningham187
@justiningham187 Месяц назад
Claiming the endowment (what you called temple ceremonies) is about learning handshakes to get to heaven is like claiming baptism is just going swimming to get to heaven, or that taking the sacrament/communion is just eating food to get to heaven. All of these things have to do with covenants, not the acts themselves. The endowment is about taking on the name and countenance of Jesus Christ, and through the grace of Christ and our oneness with Him entering the presence of The Father. The tokens, or handshakes as you called them, represent a number of things, the most obvious is going from a "higher place" to a "lower place" and being crucified, in other words it is life of Jesus Christ, it is literally taking up your cross and following Him. They are associated with names/phrases that can easily be seen to symbolize going from premortal life, to mortality, taking one the name of Christ, and being resurrected. There are also signs associated with these tokens and phrases, these tell a story as well, arguably they tell a story of the Old Law, and can be interpreted as preparing a sacrifice and praying to God, however they can also be interpreted as representing giving a blessing of healing and praying to God, thanking him for salvation. These tokens, signs, and phrases are tied with covenants one makes with God, which can be summarized as such: Obey God/do the right thing, be willing to make sacrifices to God/to do the right thing, follow Jesus Christ and the words in the Holy Scriptures, do not cheat on your spouse and bridle your passions, finally consecrate all things to God/let go and let God/rely wholly on God and not on your own righteousness. Although one can illegitimately watch the endowment, memorize the tokens, signs etc, doing so grants no benefit, you can no more steal the covenant relationship one forms with God during the endowment than you can steal my marriage by stealing my wedding ring. The tokens, sings, phrases, are not the point, much like bread and water/wine isn't the point, nor is swimming the point. What they represent and the relationship/covenants established with God are the actual meat of the subject. (remember a covenant is not just a deal, it is the unifying of two or more individuals as one individual, it is becoming one with God through Christ) The presentation given during the endowment has historically had several purposes, but the primary purpose is to teach you about yourself, your life, and your relation to God, it does so by presenting a story of Adam and Eve. In the past it was less straightforward and sought to teach through symbolism, however now it is very straightforward and the story quickly loses any pretext of actually being about Adam and Eve. I have found that most aspects of the endowment can be found throughout many of the other Christian faiths and their rituals, though mostly among the stuff the clergy do, not the laity. So much so that the common way to talk about the endowment in public was to simply talk about and explain the rituals (and their meanings) of other Churches, because those who know the endowment would understand, while those who don't simply would just learn about common religious practice. Coronation ceremonies, specifically Christian European ones are also a good place to learn about the endowment. There are books using this technique that talk about the Endowment at length without ever actually talking about the endowment, it is quite amazing. The author Alonzo Gaskill might be able to shed some light, specifically his books of symbolism, rituals, and rites. There are a lot of resources from faithful active members of the church that explain this all. So to answer your question of "We need to know certain handshakes to go to heaven?" the answer is no, you need to follow Christ, be changed by grace, and become one with Him to ender heaven. It is not the words from your lips as you confess He is Lord that saves you, nor is it the dunking in the water that saves you, nor the bread that enters your mouth, nor washing and anointing with oil, nor tokens(handshakes), nor the words said, nor the words of the prayers, nor is it a gnosis that saves you. It is the sacrifice of the Living Son of The Living God that saves you, we are not wizards who found a way to breach the throne room of God by taking a bath, eating the right food, dressing up, waving our arms around, saying magic words, watching a movie, and shaking each other hands, That's ridiculous. I'm pretty sure David has already done a video or two about the endowment, I think he also covered the washing and anointing as well. In my experience, and not saying this is the case here, most people who think the endowment is cult like (or like Hinduism, I don't know why people like to point to that) simply do not know Christianity nearly as well as they think they do, or are trained professionals who are being willfully obtuse to try to take advantage of the Latter-day Saint hesitancy to discuss the subject. Hope that helps or at least points you in the right direction. Though I suggest avoiding recordings/leaks of the endowment and/or other temple ceremonies, it is 1. inappropriate and a violation of trust/privacy and 2. often out of context/less than trustworthy.

@@Kgoverstreet Satan and his minions don’t bother fighting so hard against a false religion. Think about the amount of slander poured out on The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. “ A house divided against itself cannot stand.” A false religion will be praised by men, whereas the Bible teaches that true followers of Christ will be despised and persecuted for His sake. Also in our church history there are many instances of Satan actively trying to stop significant restoration events from occurring, he would not do this if it were false.
