On Saturday, the Chimbu and Eastern Highlands communities were led by their national leaders, to the Haus Krai of the founding father of the nation, late Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare.
Among speeches from the Chimbu community, member for Sinesine Yongomugl and Minister for Petroleum, Kerenga Kua presented a moving speech calling on leaders who ousted late Sir Michael from the Prime Minister’s seat in 2011 to publically apologize before laying the Grand Chief to rest.

He's got a valid point. But those snakes will never apologize because that would mean admitting they were wrong in the first place🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Valid point by Hon. MINISTER Kerenga Kua, but not a right time and the venue. This remark will possibly chase away many who would want to come genuinely and pay respect for the man who deserves PNGs respect. Besides, judgement has closed and it's pointless when the Late CG has gone. The current government MPs were also part of the movement at that time. He should be more considerate at this time. Minister should have a second thought before he mentioned.

Well said Honourable Kerenga Kua. The leaders who did not show due respect to Sir Michael and called him a stranger in the house should do the right thing and apologize to maintain unity in this nation.

The death of a loved one brings people with differences to reconcile and unite in their grief by doing the right thing like apologizing so we bury our differences with the loved one and move forward to bigger and better things.

@@annaraymond8318 yes death brings loved ones together. That's traditional. I'm talking about the protocol breached in instituting apology. Tok sori taim man stap laip na not when he/she is dead. Kerenga laikim ol sampla lida blo yumi tok sori long tewel man blo Somare? This is impractical. Na secondly,Somare yet tok sori pinis long ol na ol wanbel pinis long taim igo pinis. Kua toktok strong bikos em laik kisim biknem antap long haus krai blo lapun ya na mi toktok. Yu lukim gut bai kisim intention blo Kua.

@@rexyapi5580 With all due respect, I don't think so. If Kua's intentions are not honourable only time will tell but I would like to believe that as a grieving people for the passing of our founding father, we are all genuine in our sorrow.

As a Simbu Customarily speaking, in any deaths the lamentation speech falls in two categories, 1. Speech of gratitude and honor for the diseased and, 2. Speech of unity to invite family members for reconciliation if there is any unsettled grievances. So, KK just did that. It’s a well respectable thing to pay tribute and honor to the GC and also to apologize to clear the air for any perceived past differences. GC did not ask for it and probably did not expect it but PO and BN as responsible leaders, ought to come down to verbally apologize and the two did apologize which is commendable. GC sees every PNGs has his children even his political rivals and he’s all for peace and unity. I’m sure he hold nothing against his political rivals but as a matter of courtesy and respect as our only GC it’s appropriate to apologize. KK’s call for PO and BN to apologize is very well understandable and to secure peace and unity which is much needed. After all that’s certainly what GC would wanted. He leadership embodied unity and respect The GCs sons in Ela and Shouths did well as well in terms of some monetary contributions to funeral expenses and further assistance. Hope this unites the hearts and we maintain peace.

We PNG know that "Haus Krai" there are always differences and arguments that arise, before the body goes down into the ground its important that we air our grievances and sort it out amongst ourselves peacefully and come to an agreement..I think KK did the right thing to air his disagreement and leaders such as PO did apologies when SHP took the Haus Krai on Monday..well said KK.

politics has no honor, its a dirty game. that's the name of the game. Late GC was a leader of PNG who led the country to independence...bringing instances of feud and impasse and asking people to say sorry, in the very arena that late GC ruled and reigned for almost half a century to this funeral is not right...we are celebrating his life and achievements for this country. The conviction rest with political opponents/enemies to express in their own why. that shows the genuineness and makes the funeral all the more meaningful. Forcing or coercing i childish and seems to me like an emotional outburst! Late GC united the country in independence and in his passing his we wanted to feel the unity again...KK doesn't realize that MPs represent electorates and people and one statement like this can can create division.

If this is not the time and place for an apology, then tell us when and where can such an apology be made? If you are the person from whom this public apology is being demanded, speak up now or be the coward that you are.

In my view, this was an unacceptable remark from Kua in that occasion. Why cant we reflect and celebrate the life of our Grand Chief who was a champion amongst man instead of bringing up things that were done in the name of politics some time ago. Let's not bring politics into this, let's speak about the great things our GC has done and encourage one and other to be better.

GC was a man of honour and loved every Papua New Guinean - friend or foe. Never had a hatred bone in his body. He never even asked for an apology coz he never played a victim. He was always looking at the big picture and the positives. Politics is politics, don't think there is any animosity amongst anyone the way Kua has framed it and the way both of you are seeing it (my opinion).

I think this is not the right time and right place to say these things. Those who have done wrong to the founding father are human beings who will in their own ways say sorry in a true Melanesian way. Grand Chief has done his part to bring Political Independence and has unite this great nation Papua New Guinea. It is our time to stand together in unity and work towards gaining Economic Independence. Let us not drag on our past and look at a brighter Papua New Guinea for our future generation. Long lived Sir Michael Thomas Somare's Legacies. Rest in piece hero!

Unpopular demand using such forum is not right, a leaders use the past correct himself and moves forward. Late GC Somare is a founding leader who will be long remembered.
