Apoxie Sculpt Basics | BSue Boutiques
Hey guys! I'm so excited about Apoxie Sculpt! It's not a new thing, but it's a bit new to me and I'm liking it. THIS IS A LIVE VIDEO as I wanted to see comments and take questions. But we had some little technical problems at the beginning and end. That's why it says it's 3 1/2 hours long! It's not. ;-) It is a longer live video but all our lives are. It's really only an hour and 20 minutes. We now carry Apoxie Sculpt and you can find it here: www.bsueboutiq... If you are not familiar with B'sue Boutiques, we have over 8000 items, and many of them are hard to find. Some you will find nowhere else.
In this video, I discuss similarities and differences between the two clays. You can use Apoxie in much the same way as polymer clay, though there are pros and cons to both:
With poly clay, you can cane, and there is a wider choice of pre-mixed colors. But you have to bake it. It works great in a mold, you can sand it and hand-drill it.
With Apoxie Sculpt you have to mix it, but it doesn't take much longer than conditioning a new piece of clay. Apoxie Sculpt can be blended, and you can create new colors with paints and alcohol inks too. It's great for a sculptured piece and fantastic for embedding objects into it. Normally you can only make a depression in the poly clay, then you have to go back and glue it in. With Apoxie, you put it in and that's it. Apoxie is air-cure so there is no baking. But you can't cane it and you have about an hour to make your design before it begins to cure, so you have to plan your project carefully, Also Apoxie is not affected by freezing/thawing so you can use it for projects outdoors. Assemblage artists will love it as in most cases (not all) you can put that tube of E6000 away, and just use Apoxie, which is very low odor and not noxious like E6000 glue. You can simply embed or stick Apoxie to the bottom of a piece to be bonded, and it will indeed bond as hard as a rock, and not fall apart.
Though I'm new to Apoxie, I see it best for jewelry making when you do mosaics, or making shapes to do surface treatments with silicone stamps, or put it in silicone molds to form it. Apoxie makes great buttons and bracelet forms that are stronger, and don't crack. It is flexible, but it's a bit of a learning curve, as you will see in the video. Poly clay is probably more flexible. I love mosaic so I'm crazy about new possibilities with Apoxie as well as using it to do broken china jewelry WITHOUT using solder. And I love surface treatments....there are so many!
Take this journey with me and discover a new medium with exciting possibilities! Feel free to ask questions. I don't know everything yet but I can find out!
THANKS FOR WATCHING!! Questions? Want to say hi? Anyone with a kind comment can leave it and I will respond as soon as possible. ;-)
