We played app st in Boone with their biggest crowd ever and still came out with the win. UNC deserves some credit and if our defense could play all 4 quarters we would’ve won by 30 points

I don't think they consider them a cupcake, maybe like a light chicken dinner lol. For whatever reason what's generally acceptable as non conference scheduling is that it's ok to have 2 real cupcakes and a real game. In this case with 4 nonconf games that 4th one tends to be something in between. Tamu has Miami(real game) Sam Houston and UMass(cupcakes). If you schedule a third straight up cupcake you start getting criticized for your schedule(like Alabama who doesn't beat around the bush and schedules one real game and three bums and tells people to cry about it lol)

​@@greatcornholio5541 It's honestly remarkable how often that happens with this team... go back and watch the full App @ Michigan game. App should have won by 10+ easy. Against Tennessee in '16 they lost because of a missed PAT (wouldn't have gone to overtime otherwise); against Penn State in '19 they had it won but gave up a big run play right at the end to send that one to overtime too. They lost to Miami by 2 in '21, again shouldn't have happened. They lost to UNC this past year because of a dropped wide-open 2-pt conversion. They almost beat Auburn in '99 (granted Auburn wasn't any good that year). Then look at what they do during conference play... after beating Michigan, granted they won the FCS national championship again that year, but they lost 2 along the way that they shouldn't have. And every time they get ranked, they seem to go out and lose the next game in a sloppy performance. Point is this team consistently has great talent and potential, but they have a tendency to shoot themselves in the foot just often enough to hold themselves back from fully realizing where it could take them. I'm still amazed that App gave us three of the most entertaining games of the year to start this past season yet didn't even end up bowl eligible by the end of it...

It's so ironic yet strange how the roles have reverse. Past couple of years, App state been upsetting "huge" rank teams in the beginning of the season. Decent teams ranked #6 in the nation and who beat up tune ups like Sam Houston State should not lose at HOME to a barely above Division II level Appalachian State team. The Aggies were favored by at least 18!!! The Texas Longhorns played very well or Alabama is just a pretender this year.

Actually, the completed step (follow through) is considered by refs... I saw the exact same thing, toe in bounds then heel on line , in 2 other games Saturday. It took an interception away from Mississippi State's Forbes, JR. I didn't know until then either.
