Just in case you are not aware... On March 17th, the Appalachian Trail Conservancy asked all Thru-Hikers to Postpone their hikes & for hikers already on the trail to get off. I made the decision to respect the ATC’s Wishes & respect the towns surrounding the trail on that day by getting off & ending my hike for now. I’m currently back in Arizona hoping we can all get back on the trail soon enough. Because I was only out there for a total of 8 Days, this series will be a short one. I hope you guys enjoy... Be Safe & Well out there! Hike On, Darwin

Sorry to hear that your long planned trip was cut short. Some of the state parks here in Pennsylvania are still permitting socially distanced day hiking. Perhaps you could make a vlog about how to properly social distancing whilst in public areas in the meantime?

Sadly, I must admit it was a bit painful to watch this knowing we had to come home. I’ve wanted to hike this trail since I was 10 years old. Only 32 days in and it had already changed my life forever. I drank from the mountains, the air I breathed was healing my soul, and my wobbly knees were just learning to dance with my new best friend. I want it now more than ever. I’ve learned so much from those who’ve gone before me, including you. Hoping the world heals soon so we can hopefully salvage what’s left of 2020. Thanks for sharing your journey with the world. You’ve inspired so many.

Hey Wild. I had a different reaction. It wasn't painful for me. My wife has always wanted to hike the AT, but I've always been more interested in the JMT or PCT. Today, as I watched this, right in the middle of the video I texted her and simply said, "I've changed my mind. I want to hike the AT". Here's hoping it happens. Stay well.

You give your ultimate in happy updates for people looking to get on trail and experience what is the magic which is what hiking can offer. Please continue giving all of us the motivation we need to continue to get out on the trail and hike our hike. I’ve followed your trip since 2015 and haven’t missed a video since. Thank you!

I have been depressed about not being able to be out hiking new trails like normal since everything started in March, it has been hard to watch my fav RU-vid friends too, and I recently started doing five mile hikes near my home, we are blessed with some nature trails that are open. I got to camp out in my car this last week for an unexpected road trip three states away for a family funeral... and I feel a sliver of happy peeking through the sadness right now. Watching this, even knowing you had to get off trail, helps me feel normal again. So thank you! Now I have a lot of videos to catch up on!

When you said back at the same spot on the same date as 5 years ago, the day that changed my life forever, that rally hit me. I left my snowmobile house in Maine to go back to work in lower New York March first and everything just flipped instantly. Makes you think about experiences, places people and things. I was mad I only did one night in my hot tent, now I’m lucky I did hot tent at all. Be safe and I hope to continue watching this change in your life as I continue mine. 😊❤️🇺🇸☃️❄️🛷⛺️

Love the new style of filming and commentary. Reminds me so much of the first time I hiked in the Smokies and did a small section of the AT. We were very unprepared for the weather (trash bags for rain coats) but it gave me a love for the trail that still gets me excited today. Love what your doing, hopefully you can get back out there soon. Stay safe :)

Welcome back to the swamp stranger! I'm really glad to see some high quality footage from the AT. I have followed dozens of AT hikers since 2015 and only a few filmed it well. Kudos! I'm sorry to hear you got off after a week and am hoping you can get back to it when the all-clear whistle blows. It was nice seeing Underdog On the Appalachian Trail again. I almost did not recognize him w/ his beard shaved! Other than 2 overnighters late Nov., I have not been backpacking since the first week of Sept. I was saving my vacation time to start again late April, but will most likely have to postpone until the ATC blows the all-clear whistle. Watching your videos helps me and countless other Hikers better cope w/ cabin fever. P.S. Those slow rotation shots look like you have a motorized mount. Nice work!

As a follow of yours for a great many moons, over a great many hikes, I love your calm, appreciative, flowy and open-hearted way of reliving this trail. It all feels especially bittersweet in view of knowing you (and slews of others) were forced to leave the trail for all those good and responsible reasons you cited in your other recent video. So at least we get a small but tasty morsel of what would have surely turned out to be an epic journey which, this time, was starting to taste more like an inner journey than ever before. Beautiful reflections. And I love how you showed the trail magic guy! Such loving energy! This is also what the trail is about.

It is no wonder you have so many subscribers. Your helpful vlogs on every aspect of hiking are awesome. Your discussion on why you got off trail because of the virus is the best I have heard. It is a must read. For those of us who for whatever reason cannot do one of these hikes your vlogs make us feel like we are right there hiking with you. The AT is like an old soul mate that will never leave your mind and will mess with you through your whole life. Following your steps in mine from 1978, military surplus gear on the cheep with a true brother I will never have the honor of taking this hike again with semper fi staff sgt Mike Green. The voice over of your thoughts brought up a ghost of days gone by. Springer looks just like it did in 2015. In 2006 it was sunny, cold, and dry. Thanks for the memories. Another great video! I did trail magic for the first time in 2019 with "Freebyrd" (2015) in Maine. Nobody expected it. It was great! Good to see Underdog (2019) just throwing some stuff together to help hikers. For those who live close to the AT and enjoy these videos, or those who could not complete their journey due to the COVID 19, Once this thing blows over, go out and throw a party for those who can resume their quest. Darwin, I really enjoyed that. I hiked this section last October and this video brought back some really good memories. Georgia was going through a severe drought at the time and reliable water sources were few and far between... which made things a bit difficult and necessitated a lot of extra planning and a lot of relying on intelligence from southbounders. That said, it was a great hike. I met some great guys and we are all still in touch. Unfortunately, like so many others, I just had to cancel a hike in the Roan Mountain area I had been planning on for this week. Like you, and everyone else, I’m looking forward to things getting back to normal. Sorry this trip didn’t turn out as you planned. Thanks for your videos.

Take solace in doing the right thing to leave the trail. So many years planning. I was subbed but seems I'm not any more. It's probably two years this July I started watching your videos as your advice helped me with my own thru hike in Europe September time.

This is a scary time, in a strange way, your video took me away, it gave me some relief, it put me out there. I think this series is very important, right now. Hike on Brothers and Sisters.

Darwin (and Snuggles) rule! Bet it felt great to get back on the AT. Hope the walk down memory lane (and your new adventure) can restart soon. Thoughts go out to all the hikers and trail towns.

Have you watched the Film I made last year? I decided to start making more "Film" type videos VS "Vlogs"

Thanks for bringing me back to 2016 when I set out. Weird to think how something so simple can mold our lives so strongly! Also funny looking back, seeing you crush a 20 on day 2 while I pushed a "tough" 8 to Neels

What I always love about these videos. Is how Darwin is carrying his Ultralight gear and everybody else is carrying around Huge Massive packs.

Agreed. Also smart to re-supply early on to keep his weight minimal the first day. I can't tell you how much I have learned from this guy!
