Appalling Cheap "HO" Train From Ebay | ElCheapo 

I absolutely died of laughing when you said, " a chinese man with a chisel actually forged this out of a large piece of plastic" 😝😂😂🤣🤣🤣

Actually, for the price and appearance, it wouldn't make a bad toy. Marketting it as HO scale was the real crime here 😂

So, my curiosity is, if you can find a diesel locomotive chassis with an absolutely trashed body, could you possibly put this body on that chassis and make something half-decent out of two pieces of scrap? Could be a good challenge for "Salvage or Scrap: Season 2."

Hahaha! It’s fairly common to see these (or similar style “models” of China Railways trains) in toy shops in China. They are very obviously aimed at kids. But is a fairly decent representation of a DF4 loco, which are extremely common here in China, it even appears to be in one of China Railways’ various blue-ish liveries…. At least the steam sound effects are better on a DF4 than when that chip gets shoved into a CRH bullet train toy train!

Even as a toy, it's totally naff : what can you do with it after having making run it 2/3 times on the ground ? It cannot even go somewhere else than straight forward ! Honestly, paying for that is wasting money. So, you have some fast-food for the Scrapman here, nothing else.

Well, my five year old boy put us all in our place! He said quite calmly, as Sam, sorry El Cheapo sent the tacky loco down the stairs “I actually liked the sound, he could have sent it to me instead of breaking it.” I feel guilty for enjoying the video now!

That's a huge coincidence I've got a very similar toy like this when I was a little kid and I still have it. Mine is in mat blue. It also made that horrible sound so I've taken the batteries out but aside from that a fun little video it's always quite amusing to see you looking at cheap stuff

That bad train sound is almost in every single cheap chinese train toys, if you see a cheap chinese train toy and its advertised as "having sound" on the box, its almost certain just that sound chip, my parent bought a lot of knockoff thomas toys when i was a kid, I can remember every single part of the loop

That looks a pretty good model of a Chinese DF4 class actually. (I emphasise looks as that's all it's good good for.) As a static exhibit on the shelf it might look all right The sound effects are hilarious 😂

Looks like this “model” doesn’t belong on your railway! I don’t think it even works on the tracks because the wheels are different and it has no couplings on it. El Cheapo has certainly gone cheap, but this is the cheapest we’ve seen along with his appearance.

The Chinese State Railway would like to apologise for the late running of the 3:10 express to Shanghai. This was due to an unexpected drop off in Sam's Loft!!! I must admit I would be tempted to use this model as a rebuild/upgrade project just for the hell of it! Great video. Keep up the good work Sam.

Umm the very same item could be found on Chinese online retailers for under 2 pounds and the package of this toys never mentioned HO... It actually says on the front that the toy was available for kids older than 3. I guess whoever was selling this on Ebay for a tenner might never expect someone purchasing it.

Cheap as fish and chips, yes, but opening doors and cab details, that’s a plus. But unsuitable for HO track? That’s a minus.

If you were 3 years old, and wanted a train for Christmas, it is 'VFM', I suggest. Or maybe some 3 year olds want fine scale EM brass locomotive kits...

Actually.......for someone wanting a Soviet Block DE/M6e on the cheap, tge body mould with judicious cutting and a cheap 6 axle chassis could make something out of that...

Why does it seem that all cheap train toys with sound use the same audio file?

It looks like it is sort of based off a Chinese DF4 diesel locomotive judging by the vents on the side and the look of the cab. But DF4 got 3 axled bogies. This is more in the catagory Toy train than a model train. This is what you give to small kids to keep them entertained so they hopefully wont break your model trains.

You know something is 100% chinese when it has the classic "train" sound chip

I bought one in a store for 5.95 Euros in green, but it doesn't run on batteries but rather it looks and makes noise just by rolling it. The model is the same but the box is different. I will use it as decoration for the model on a siding, since it is not badly detailed.

I was going to buy one of those just for a laugh at a toy shop in KL a year or two ago. Bit steep paying £10 for it, I was looking at about half that. Liked it as it looks Soviet. The tourist railway I was loco crew on here in New Zealand sold toy steam locos with the exact same sound sequence, the guard used to wind us loco crew from time to time playing one over the radio. We told him to give it to us, it just might end up flying out the cab window as we were crossing a viaduct! :-D Bought an El cheapo job for £7, based on a F3, ×2 AA powered , with 1920s Harriman carriage and circuit of track. Boasted realism like your packing did. But at least it runs on rails. Quite the opposite of that one there, it's got flanges deeper than an ancient Triang! It is of a gauge slightly more than 00. But good for a laugh is the odd toy one. A friend runs his round his xmas tree. In fact days ago we put them beside each other on their circuits and timed them for laps over 10 min during a BBQ last weekend. I definitely have a spot for toy trains as well, just don't say it too loud LOL.

yes, very insulting. never ceases to amaze me that even among rail-fans most people are confused as to what the term ''train'' means. that's a Locomotive or Engine. a ''train'' requires more than one item of rolling stock. the words ''wagon'' and ''train'' just like the words ''engine'' and ''train'' are not mutually interchangeable.

Hi sam You or El cheapo should fit the loco body to an old chassis from the locomotive scrap box(es) and try to make a Frankenstein train made from the cheap loco and a hornby chassis.

I had a kid's toy train that had that same exact sound file, except it never stopped playing while the train was going.

40 years ago you could find Eastern Europe TT like that. I have one for curiosity. But it actually runs on trafo and track.

To be honest, in japan this type of toyish model trains are somehow common but not in a scale that similar to HO.

The real DF4s are Co-Co locos, they make this a Bo-Bo and call this a 'model'.

In this case HO means 'Hands Off'.
