They issued over 11K in tickets. He just ignores them. Apparently, they haven't caught on that the tickets are useless! He should be charged with operating a junkyard illegally, creating a public eyesore and health hazard. Arrest him, bring him to court, force him to get rid of the junk AND pay back tickets or go to jail for a year.
they really just have to keep ticketing him and put a lean on his house, then you can force them to sell it to pay for the leans and clean up fees. Some cities just show up with a dump truck and the sheriff and take it everything away and send you a bill, which then becomes a lean.
@@joeybydin439 that means nothing, the neighbors are clearly keeping their homes well maintained. Their block is clean even if the rest of the city is dilapidated. This new person doesn't have the right to run down the block just because.
Sounds like the city is saying HE HAS MORE RIGHTS, THEN ALL OTHER NEIGHBORS WHO TAKE CARE OF THEIR PROPERTY.THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. HOLD YOUR TAXES TIL SOMETHING IS DONE.🕊🇺🇲💕
No, the city never said this neighbor has more rights. I sure didn’t hear that in this report and this is just a two and a half news report. Look it up, there’s other people who work for the city of Detroit and they have tried several times to tell the neighbor to clean up. I was curious about this neighbor and there’s a lot more information about this house. They are saying he’s ignoring all his tickets that are up to $11,000, probably more now. That neighbor is just being stubborn and lazy. The city has tried several ways to warn the neighbor to clean up or else they’ll go and clean it up their selves and that person can be arrested and still have to pay fines for the city to clean it up. Apparently that person or family, just doesn’t care.
Mrs. Thomas my heart goes out to you and the neighbors. Let us hope that the City follows through on their commitment to force the homeowner to remove the trash.
I lived next door to a person who has a yard like that. That's not my fight to knock on someone's door. That's how people get killed. The city came and removed all of that junk and because they were leasing the home, the home owner evicted them.
if you google the house, the only thing in the front yard was that mint green playhouse that was on the porch, side was filling up, all this happened in a year. Hoarders is back on the air, sign them up.
One of my church members lives next door to that house. He has called the city several times and nothing has changed as far as that junk being removed. I deliver a food box to him once a month and sometimes can barely get to his driveway due to all the stuff and cars belonging to those people. The last time I went I took pictures of the house and a lady sitting in that black car you see in the video said she would “break that phone; just try me”. I hope the city does remove that stuff and I applaud those neighbors for their courage.
If it hasn’t worked so far, what do people think he’s going to do now? I bet he hasn’t even paid his fines. He’s been given already. This person needs to be evicted from the neighborhood. I feel sorry for the neighbors having this eyesore in their neighborhood.
"Not worth the paper it's written on" . They should have sent in a dump truck and cleaned it up much earlier . I would be temped to torch that dump site , but I would not want to endanger the rats .
Yeah good luck. The govt has made that almost impossible. My friend tried to evict someone who wasn't paying the rent and trashing the place. It took him paying out his own money for court costs and months to even get an eviction notice. The woman just moved and left all her stuff so he had to pay to remove all of that as well. The govt has screwed over property owners and handed it to deadbeats.
That dump reminds me of the Sanford & Son house. I bet the inside of that house is also full of junk and trash. The owner of that property needs to be evicted. Disgusting.
There is junk for sale and then there's hoarding. This person has an illness and needs help! FYI Sanford's junk was organized and in code with his business, it was on an episode!
That's amazing! I had a neighbor who complained about me after I cleaned my garage on a Sunday afternoon, and left a pile of items on the driveway to go to the dump. I secured a green tarp over these items The next morning, at seven thirty, I caught this neighbor taking photos of the tarp. When I asked him what he was doing he ran back to his house. The items were picked up on Tuesday morning and taken to the dump. Wednesday a city worker showed up at my front door to post a notice about junk on my driveway on my door. After asking him if he could see junk on my driveway and him answering that he couldn't, he took his notice back and left. The fact that this homeowner has not been approached by the city to clean his mess up just doesn't make sense.
That makes me sad because that looks like a nice area of Detroit and there aren't many like that and those people are trying to keep things nice this is what brings the ghetto in
I feel so sorry for the neighbors. My mother is the oldest resident on her street and has a beautifully maintain yard with flowers everywhere for over 55 years. One by one neighbors moved away and the new residents became more and more dirty with trash everywhere. It looks so horrible. It makes me so mad that my mother can't enjoy her little paradise like garden, like she should be able to because her neighbors (all but one) have turned the street into a dump. And I don't dare call the township on them because they have already threaten my mother and I fear for her safety. She's 81 and has never hurt anyone, she tries to be neighborly but can't even enjoy her own yard in her final years.
@@glw5166Thankfully no. She lives in one of the suburbs about 20 minute from Detroit. And yes she's fine, me and my older sister check on her and help her out regularly. Thanks for asking.
Development companies pay people to move into low income areas to create unlivable conditions that makes homeowners move out which gives the development companies the opportunity to buy up every house that comes available on the market and once the developers purchase enough houses they begin to tear them down and build more expensive homes in it's place which attracts people of another demographic and economic status and that folks is one of the many methods of gentrification.
What a shame. Good neighbors who take care of their properties and pay their taxes have no say in getting rid of this horrible mess. Front and back, that's what needs to be cleaned up. This person is never going to change. Get him out of the house and neighborhood completely. Let him move next to the city dump where he belongs! Don't give up Mrs. Thomas and the rest of you. Keep your voices loud and constant. I hope I see a follow up on this from Fox 2 Detroit very soon.
Find is going his name not on the address because the next owner will have to pay that fine to get that house or they’re just gonna drop the fine so the next guy can buy the house
I think sometimes the neighborhood should warn the tenant and give them a 30 day notice. If they don't comply, then send those 1(800) Got Junk guys over and give the tenant the bill.
Mad respect to the man who said in as many words that these knuckleheads are NOT gonna run him from the neighborhood he was born and raised in! I'd be proud to be his neighbor! That mess has got to GO!
I live not far from detroit, R city would never allow anyone property to look like this. They Would fine them day-by-day. It is a Health hazard roton hazard... My city does not allow abandon horrible looking houses to stand for decades.... No one wants a horrible looking neighborhood were their paying rent and taxes.. Keep fighting...
My mom delivers food boxes to a neighbor there and the woman in the nasty home threatened her cause she was taking photos of the property. From now on I will go on those deliveries with my mom.
Black woman or white woman in the home and what age they look? Why don't you buy the a broom, dust pan, large garbage bags and some gloves so they can fix the issue. Why not help them instead of bash them
@@Martin199320 That person is a Hoarder. Even if they get help with cleanup, they will just fill it back up again. This is what Hoarders do. I don't see where Race is an issue here - Hoarders come in all sizes, shapes and colors.
@@Martin199320 So lead by example, YOU take your arrogant a** over there and get the ball rolling. Your kind are what’s mucked about this present society. Don’t bother with a reply, Mr, or whatever gender/pronoun, Perfect, not returning to even read anything. 👎🏿
It’s not just there. It’s sad that people can willingly get away with destroying a neighborhood and no one does anything about it so shameful for a community!
Contact “Hoarders” to see if they would be interested in approaching the homeowner about a massive clean-up. If the outside looks that bad one can only imagine what the inside looks like. I’m guessing the owner of the cluttered yard has cameras outside so it probably wouldn’t help to quietly remove a yard ornament late at night once in a while.
The tickets are just paper to the offender. The city should haul away the trash and scrap metal, sell the metal to recoup funds lost on the tickets, and expel the offender from the home or keep it tidy. The residents have fewer rights than the junk man! Wrong! Wrong! Wrong!
Omg.. That's hazardous on so many levels. Why bother to live in a house?? Move yourself and your trash to the nearest dump..you'll fit right in. I pray the neighbors get some relief .
I’m wondering if adult protective services could be called in. Hoarding is a mental illness that cannot be fixed by threats. Tickets fines whatever won’t work. This person obviously can’t take care of themselves. Here in Alabama a deputy seeing this could call protective services instantly. I feel for this neighborhood. I also feel for the hoarder. But that’s not just an eyesore. Between the odors I know must be in that house and the pests being allowed to breed freely, I just can’t imagine living next door to that. The inside is worse. Guaranteed. Sad.
Whomever lives there is sick mentally. They need help. They are hoarders as you guys can see. Instead of kicking them and giving them fines. Call Adult protective services to see if this person is mentally stable enough to live on their own at least. This is so sad. I'm looking deeper into the situation. This person is is sick to think that this is ok to live like this.😢
Detroit is a free for all city. Do whatever you like, it’s ok. Car get stolen, no response. Someone get killed, slow response. Noise issue, laughing response. The city could make a LOT of money if they gave tickets for blight issues.
How can the city not do something about this??? Seriously. That's such a nice, beautiful neighborhood except for the dump on that property. Screw those tickets, remove it all and do something to prevent it. The neighborhood doesn't deserve to suffer because of one wingnut
Good to see the rest of the neighborhood wanting to get rid of this eyesore to maintain the beauty and safety of their neighborhood and protect their property values. Too many good people would rather give up and move away, leaving only the bad neighbors behind, which is how neighborhoods eventually become crime ridden. And boo to the city of Detroit for taking this long to actually enforce their own ordinances, and finally decide to send somebody else out to haul away all the junk. In the suburbs if you even dare to let your grass grow too long, they will send a hired professional out to mow it for you and then give you the bill. A situation like this front yard wouldn't have lasted more than a week in Canton or Royal Oak or Saint Clair Shores
So this guy rents the property and the landlord won't make him clean it up? It would be the property owner getting the tickets, right?? Looks horrible, I don't blame the neighbors for taking this problem to the next level. I'd like to know what the resident looks like...and cringe thinking of what the inside of the house is like
That's bringing the property value down in the neighbors homes. If they could even sell now (due to the neighbor) they wouldn't get what their home is worth. This is horrible.
A question for the Americans here: Why do you guys not have fences/walls around your front yards? It’s much safer, you’d have much more privacy and depending on the fence things like this would be much less noticeable. I always see videos of houses like these with nothing on their front yards apart from maybe some plants and it doesn’t really make sense to me. Why have big front yards if you can barely use them?
The city is to blame for that mess, they should jump on eye sores like that, like they aggressively jump on collecting tax's form their citizens. All I can say is "Welcome to De-toilet MI, may your stay be safe, and quick."
@@up-uw4op Listen up little cadet, I never said it wasn't plenty of other yards like that in michigan. But I'll have you know that the last thing on my mind is plenty other yards that my family I don't have to drive through & see every day. I live, grew up in & own and operate business in Detroit so that's my concern, wtf are you talking about?
maybe he's cleaning up Detroit, he could be a superhero because Detroit is a dump in a half anyways so maybe he's condensing all the crap everywhere in one spot.
IF THE CITY ALLOWS: use a green fence screen or plant that same bush (0:04 over her right shoulder) along the property line. That way you dont see it... out of site; out of mind.
Hoarding is an expression of mental issues. Ticketing them won't work. He needs a mental health professional from the City to call on him. In the meantime, the neighbors could just... throw his stuff away. Take matters into their own hands.
We also have a problem in my neighborhood but just like your story not much get done. It depreciates the resale value of your home. Asia is many houses in my neighborhood are up for sale. Next move is to call the county health department.
Anyone with 2 brain cells left to rub together should know that hitting someone with Mental problems with a bunch of fines and tickets ISN'T GOING TO correct the problem. Whoever has a yard in that condition obviously has a hoarding issue, which of course is a Psychological condition. I can't speak for anyone else, but here in the town that I live, there was an old fellow that would do the same thing. His yard would get crammed with scrap metal EVERYTHING... We knew he had the INTENTION of selling it all at the recycler, but for one reason or the other, couldn't bring himself to do it on his own. The town's solution was to get together about every six months and help him take care of it. He passed away recently and now the town just doesn't seem the same without him... He really was a decent guy and would help anyone but himself out. Mental Illness is a really complex thing. Has anyone there ever lifted a finger to help this person out? Or is that person so despicable that no one can get through?
Some folks just dont know how to take care of something good when u got it 😢 i would give anything to have that big nice house and fix it up oh so pretty with fruit trees and vegees and flowers all around it come on yall not in the backwoods at least try to blend in with the neighborhood and keep it decent they probably dont even need all that mess and half of it probably dont work or is unusefull clean it up humans!!!
Time to re-write City Rules, After 5-10 tickets the City should have the right to send workers and Police to physically remove and clean up said property and send the bill to the owner/owners, collection should come through tax returns etc. The City of Westland have did it, I believe that they also took the property, Detroit should should also take the same type of actions, when Owners resist obeying the law
I missed payment (utility bill) to change to my debit card for three days and I had the city breathing down my neck and it was only $150.00, Detroit let it go for over 11,000 in fines hmm who's the wiser here.
My neighbors are always leaving garbage in the yard...when working on cars they leave their tools everywhere..tires on the front and back porch...a broken down vehicle that looks like it has been there forever.I don't complain to the landlord because after my son graduates I'm moving...I'm a clean person....folks are getting crazier by the minute just leave that man alone because no telling what he might do next
I live in florida and my neighbor that lived around the corner had the same junk pile. The city came out 5 times with dump trucks , the last time they came they had 6 dump trucks , and a bobcat to clean up his mess. They finally put Liens on the house for $65,000 and he is gone and so is his junk
The neighbor could be mentally ill, but either way, he/she clearly doesn't care about the tickets. I hope the city follows through, gets all of this junk removed and stays on top of it.
I moved to a very nice community but since there's always a catch i was ready 😂 , same problem, but here there's a lot of old ppl that need help, I called my daughter and her husband and we tackled the front yards that needed work, we started at 5am and by 7am we were done, I haven't spoke about it to anyone and vise versa... just do it.😂
I had a neighbor like that. The fire department came in and forced them to clear the front yard out as well as everything they had stacked against the fences in the back yard.
There is no way rhe city should not be able to have the owner clean up the property. When we decide to live in a civil society we all have an obligation to respect our neighbors and maintain our property, especially the outside.
If Government didn't make it so hard to evict people they could be gone by now those are tenants living there they said they are giving the fines to the owner I'm sure the owner wants them out as much as those neighbors do but the government is standing in the way of getting them evicted that's what happens when you always go to help the tenants
See people are so damm nosey and you see why people get shot . What the hell does it matter. Leave people alone . Every one so damn ignorant dont know what these people are going through and you want to ticket them on top of it . Maybe they dont want to get robbed so they make it look like crap
We had a guy down the street from us who's house looked something like a junk yard. Not only that. The house was falling apart. No grass, just huge concrete rocks, broken down vehicles with green stickers. City said he gets tickets all the time. All he does is pay the fine or go to jail for a few days. Homeowners association wont force him to clean it up. Just report it.
Great so there's a tenant living there of course there you go America always feeling sorry for the damn tenants that's what tenants do to your property now the landlord is the one getting all the tickets and fines that's not fair
They keep issuing the ticket so they can collect money from the guy. Bless the guy who lives there. He must be going through alot of psychological problems. HOARDING is usually a sign of DEEP DEPPRESSION from childhood. The inability to let items go (hoarding) because each image triggers a memory that plays over and over again. Or a different life they *wish they lived (thinking if they saved an item, -it could be used for that.).
Even if he'd have tried to sell their home, the 1st sight of that neighbors over cluttered yard would dissuade any potential buyers. As well as devalue their surrounding properties values.
