I don't know when people will acknowledge his physicality. In One Piece world atleast muscle mass doesn't always equal to more strength. If that were the case then the tontattas wouldn't have been so strong despite being small.
It’s more so about Luffy not being the physically strongest of the list rather than not being strong period. Just because he placed 4th in this ranking doesn’t mean he’s ass. I personally voted Burgess in this poll, because I assumed that the criteria was raw physical strength. So before y’all bring up the Bajrang gun, that is not raw physical strengh. Also, the examples you gave don’t do Luffy any good. I love Luffy just as much as you do, but I won’t let that blind me. When has Luffy thrown a giant with 1 hand? Garp caved in Chinjao’s drill when he was at his prime, Luffy needed Gear 3 to do it when Chinjao was old and didn’t even have the drill. And Burgess’s potential is literally unmatched, and if we’re talking about feats, no one in the history of One Piece has lifted a mountain as comfortably as Burgess did, and he hasn’t even mastered his fruit yet. Kaido is stronger than luffy even today. Daily reminder that he never even bothered to use armement Haki on top of his already supreme tank body + during his final attack he was still using a lot of energy to levitate Onigashima. Luffy is a bum who has plot armor on his side cause in no other anime with any lick of common sense does a major antagonist whoop the ass of the protagonist 4 times and let him live. Kol is the last person to talk about scaling but one thing I’ve respected about him is he acknowledges that the new gen is as powerful as the old gen . People really think kaido and luffy and shanks wouldn’t be able to clash with guys like kaido wb and Roger

It’s a matter of reading comprehension- Oda. Not everyone has comprehension and some just fly through the manga without remembering names. I’m in favor of people getting into One Piece , but some people are just blatantly limited. Powerscaling in general is insanely toxic in this fanbase, and I’ve made personal strides to look the other way. When you (KOL) and others push those agendas, I just roll my eyes. I’ve grown to appreciate the story more , when not caring about power scaling at all anymore. People will learn the hard way

That poll just says “Who takes physical strength?” It doesn’t say with DF, without DF, with Haki, without Haki Those are about the results I would expect if it was physical strength without DF powers, except for Burgess. He would only ever be stronger than Luffy if it was No DF No Haki. You also have 3 buff guys and a skinny dude that’s going to have a psychological impact on people subconsciously I guarantee if you reran that poll with a picture of buff Gear 5 Luffy or Giant Gear 5 Luffy and said “who takes physical strength incl. I feel like this is a debate between strength and power which are different. Luffy has insane strength and power in abundance but i do think there are a few characters that have more pure strength than luffy. But i also think alot of this comes down to age and experience. People forget luffy is 19 and most of his opponents are 30+ and usually have twice the amount of training and experience than him. Imagine how wildly strong luffy would be if he were 25

This is the thing that people don't seem to get about Luffy. Even if he didn't have a devil fruit, his base stats are crazy high. His strength is so high, he really doesn't have to train for power. Meanwhile characters like Zoro have to train constantly. Luffy's speed and reaction time are also insane. This is base. The DF does give him a slight boost to his base stats besides durability.
No ones out here saying that luffy’s weak, he’s just not as strong as some of the people in this poll physically speaking. I’ll be willing to say otherwise when I see Luffy toss a giant with one hand in base, like Whitebeard did

There's a difference between being strong and being a good fighter. I train in MMA, and I've noticed that the guys who can lift a lot of weight rarely get in the ring because they often get beaten up. I can only bench 225, but I hit harder than most of them because fighting requires more than just strength; it takes skill and technique.
The way folks leave out Jozu in strength arguments is wild😅. Burgess hasn't really been impressive to me. The only thing i liked was his shock wave elbow attack he did in dressrosa.

Nah even without Df or Haki, Luffy is still a monster in base. Luffy rn in the current story is admiral level in base in terms of physical strength. We saw as much in his fight with Kizaru. That means Luffy in base is at the bare minimum at least as physically strong as Garp is rn in his old age. Burgess is strong, but he's not admiral level strength at all in base without his devil fruit or haki. He needs both just to emulate the same things Garp can rn in old age, without haki. And we saw that Aoikiji of all people was going blow for blow with Garp. I'd much rather put Kaido and Big Mom over Luffy in terms of strength before I put Burgess over Luffy.
Honestly, whoever thinks Luffy is as weak as they think doesn’t understand that with Prep Time he can Destroy Countries and even the Planet in Gear 5. If my guy had no time limit on Egghead Island, Cake Walk. Maybe not so much the escape still, but the fights he finishes it sooner and holds it down better. His fruit holds back his physical presence, with the addition of Haki gear4 he's able to control his body mass to his true physical limit. With snakeman compressing his body to accelerate his speed without losing too much power. Similar to Lucci's life return Leopard.

Gods gun similar to his other moves ,he has to build up recoil .He extended his fist away from his body and pulled it back,which requires muscle. This has mass behind that's enough to flatten onigashima.
Tbh it's the fact that when you look at it, bajrang is actually just giant pretty slow moving heavy balloonn. Like it makes sense that kaido could tank the entire thing, bajrang was just pushing kaido not doing damage

Just going off the title and arguments I hear in the community, this is likely a misinterpretation. Just because people don't think hes top 5, does not mean hes not considered strong by said people.

I think prime Whitebeard is stronger than normal sized Gear 5 Luffy, but yeah if he goes giant, it's a wrap. But I think most people voted based on the strength in a somewhat constant form, since Giant form seems to be somewhat limited on time
I voted based on raw physical strength, which turning giant isn’t. Turning giant increases your attack power, not your strength, hence why Whitebeard is indeed superior

I really think it comes down to people being as strong as the plot needs them to be. One piece is very inconsistent when it comes to literal physical strength because there's so many things that can affect it. One of them being haki. Not saying that luffy is weak but it makes no sense how that skinny 19 year old kid can clash evenly with HYBRID KAIDO (a giant oni that is Physically amped by dragon powers) in base, gear2-3, gear 4 and gear 5, when each gear increases his physical strength exponentially unless it was just luffy's coc doing most of the work and not luffy's physical strength. Otherwise kaido should've been destroyed by g4 like doffy did cause luffy in base and g2 was already pushing hybrid kaido back. Which is also one of the reasons why giving burgess the strong strong fruit is so weird 😂😂😂. Luffy literally moved 2 building he was stucked in with his bare hands, sanji made a giant crocodile float with a single kick (no momentum needed), kicked a building and matched oars (in thriller bark) and zoro literally lifted a whole building while bleeding out mr1. Burgess would have to lift the entire red line for his fruit to be relevant in any way in powerscaling. Physical strength is more a plot thing than a powerscaling thing imo. Too inconsistent to make any sense.

The reason Garp is so high is because, even if you want to talk feats, people are just more invested in Garp's story and his past, then with Luffys. This is in my opinion a narrative problem. Oda hype up these other character so much that the audience get more invested with them because they have narrative weight to the story. And when those expectations are not met the audience will become disconnected. Kind of a lose lose situation for Oda.
He’s forgetting an important factor to luffys power is that it’s on a time limit. His enormous amount of strength to pick up onigashima is limited to his ridiculous power up and therefore is weaker than a character that can do it whenever like burgess
I think Luffy has stronger bursts of strength while Burgess has more consistent strength, like yea the Bajrang Gun is most likely stronger than any single attack Burgess has (and even then its effectiveness is more from being coated in Haki than its raw physicality) but it's hard to imagine Luffy lifting mountains the way Burgess does until Oda actually shows it, I see the skipping Kaido point but it just doesn't feel the same.

For some reason ppl don’t respect Gear 5 enough. People really think it’s just a bit better than gear 4 and because there’s a time limit that it makes everything he can do in gear 5 pointless. Gear 5 Luffy is the strongest character in the show by far, the only reason Luffy is not 1 is because of the time limit.
Luffy is basically top 5 in the verse right now or at least close to it. He's beating mihawk,rayleigh,anyone in shanks crew besides the god king himself. He's on par with big mom right now can probably 1v1 her. He's goated people don't understand he's low diffing the gorosei and could even 2v1 Saturn and an admiral.
The problem with all the strength scaling you present with Luffy IS that it is happening in gear 5 the form that Ignores Physics. He's not skipping Kaido because he's Physically stronger then Kaido he's skipping Kaido because it's funny that a Dragon is being used as a jump rope.

Luffy bass is strong but not prime white beard strong. and the biggest problem with gear 5 is, as of right now he dont now how to really use it. And there a huge limit to it. I think the comparison comes from just base form luffy to them. The farthest I would go for strength for him is gear 4th bound man in this which is a reasonable debate but when you include Sun god Nika it's a no brainer it's basically hax at that point lol

Garp is the strongest and greatest puncher in the world. But you wouldn't pick Garp to beat Aokiji, Kizaru, Big Mom, Kaido, and Saturn over Luffy. This is why people will pick Shanks over Kaido. But not Mihawk over Kaido. Shanks is not a Boxer. He's an MMA fighter that Boxes.

BUT if you look at it with just your their own physical strength WITH JUST their muscles and no powers at all haki or fruit powers. I think the ranking is right, luffy relys on his powers alot. He IS durable cuz of his fruit and he is strong in general but remember his fruit is on like 24/7. Even when he fought that sea king when he left the islan at 16 he WINDED up his punch to beat him. His gum pistol has always needed a windup.He is using momentum and needs to ramp up his punch to do it. And every opponent he had to fight to beat him he had to be creative with his fruit to beat them. unlike with garp or say WB who cant do it they just grit it out. If we compare them all with just their own body in say punching the ships with just a single punch i think he wont be able to do without needing his rubber powers.
It's true, for some odd reason a portion of the community has always thought Luffy is weak. I don't get it either, but I also don't engage with power rankings as it can be super toxic. I just enjoy the show, I don't care about power.
idk man Prime Whitebeard hasn't been said to have lost a one on one fight. And his demeanor. Its just hard to see him losing one on one vs someone while healthy. The way he spoke to rocks Cemented this idea into my head. Rodger wasn't the king because of strength he was king because of ambition, and his goals. I'd bet the reason rodger needed Garps help during God valley was because Whitebeard upset the balance.
