I think it should be mentioned that KPOP was quite popular in Asia already during the 2000's, due to K-Dramas being popular in the 90's.

But it's mostly western people of Asian decent that follow KPOP.

Well of course. They’re gaining more western followers but the main followers will always be the Asians and asian descent. It’s kinda sense of belonging towards the culture. Just like food, Indian food is popular, but who eat the most, still the Indian people or Indian decent.

That didn't hit the brief. Not even close. There are a multitude of reasons why "Western" people are listening to K-pop. Yes, many are of Asian decent, but the numbers from other cultural backgrounds are rapidly growing. Not just among the teen and pre-teen demographics, but across all age brackets. I rarely willingly listen to Australian and British artists now, and almost never willingly listen to American artists. Western music really changed direction not long after Y2K (and in my opinion, it was not a good change in direction). Comparatively, the K-pop genre is overall wholesome. Artists are bound by morality clauses in their contracts (you'll not see K-pop artists in the situation that P. Diddy is currently in) that morality is taken seriously. Even an accusation of an artist bullying a classmate in primary school will see them suspended from all activities while that is fully investigated). K-pop music is positive, upbeat, devoid of the swearing and worse which is prevalent in so much Western music now. The genre is ENJOYED across all age groups because it can be. The lyrics are clean and respectful - for the majority. Artists found to have breached the morality clauses in their contracts are sacked from their management company and not picked up by any other. Their career is over. Why this reporter(?) was tasked with a story on shooting he had an obvious contempt for, I can not fathom. He really didn't understand the assignment... or actually cover the topic.

Perhaps k-pop is cleaner music but Do you not know the stories of disgraced former make K-pop artists who were involved it miss treatment of women, drugs and sex trafficking?
@bellarose-au

@@bodybeats that one thing a about a decade or more ago with one guy who owned a night club. I've heard about that. It was the reason the morality clauses were put into all artist contracts. Now, compare that one story to the thousands in just the last 25 years of Western music. Or the tens of thousands since the 1950s. Don't forget to include the handful of male American artists who married 12 and 14 year old girls. Don't forget Michael Jackson - a serial ped-a-file. Don't forget Bobby Brown, the wife bea ter. Don't forget P Diddy and R Kelly... and on, and on, and on. Comparatively, K-pop artists still come out on top.

@@bellarose-au yeah 100% agree with what your saying about western music allot of messed up cases and only the ones we know of! But I’m sure there is exploitation and shady stuff going in the music Industry (as would be film industry) all over the world including Korea! It’s just all covered up and made to look pretty and fun!, until it’s exposed. However people generally don’t speak out because they are just climbing the ladder and afraid of not succeeding or out of fear because of what they blackmail them with. Hopefully this current case makes a change in the Industry, weeds out the bad guys and encourages more to speak out!

@@bodybeats A dead fly in a bowl of porridge. You might say. He was a former member of BigBang. The whole country resented his horrendous crime. He was released after 18 months behind bars. His career is entirely over, at least here in South Korea. He seems to be staying in one of the South East Asian countries, bluffing about the good old days. Good deserve.

I disagree. K-pop is not enjoyed across all age groups. Personally, my friends and I think this "music" is asinine and vacuous.
