I just got this Mac in 2018 and I’m super excited because I was using the 2010 model lol. I bought it on Craigslist for 200$ which is a crazy deal since it’s still like 600$ everywhere

My MacBook Pro Retina 13” 2012 Late is overheating when open a Video from RU-vid and then slowing & frezing . I tested it with MacBook Air same video and it has same problem even MacBook Air running well. What is the problem? Not: I already renewe its thermal paste.

I have the opportunity to buy one at $100 but the thing is , the motherboard doesn’t work Supposedly ... from my understanding it doesn’t turn on but makes a beeping noise ....is it worth the risk ? Also do I need to worry about iCloud lock ?

Great review, as I am thinking of picking up a used one to complement an older Intel iMac. Cost of a used one would be about the same as a 2015 MacBook Air 11". Currently $800USD.. Air has half the RAM and obviously smaller screen. On the other hand it would be new and have guaranteed 8 hrs compared to a what a 3 yr old MacBook will have ( 75% ? ). Newer CPU & SSD should also help comparable the raw power between both. Anybody have experience using both a MacBook Retina and a newer MacBook Air. Pros & Cons?

Should I get the current 13" macbook air with 8GB, i7 and 128GB flash storage or wait for the next gen retina macbook pro? I'll be using it for college, studying software development and intend to keep it for at least 3 years. I'd rather not spend anymore than €1500 with education pricing at the online apple store.

Wow. Excellent review. You explained all the relevant points very well and I actually learned some stuff. I'm not too concerned about the gaming aspect since do mostly graphics work. Plus, Steam can optimize the game to fit the system.

Does it slow down at the non-recommended display scaling settings? It's a bit jerky even on recommended on some UI animations.

Is the 15 inch a lot faster compared to the 13? I can't make the decision on which one to buy, I only use my current lap top for internet browsing and movie streaming mostly, maybe a little bit of gaming here and there.

Even on the 15" with a higher TDP to work with and a discreet GPU to fall back on, the UI seemed laggy to me under Mountain Lion, something like the calender flip animation you could literally count out the frames on. I haven't tried the 13" yet, but I can't imagine the small drop in resolution offsetting that, is the UI lag still there?

I was at the local Apple store and the 15" retina is incredible! Even the text at the menu bar on top has NO visible pixels like it would on any other Mac! But i just got a late 2011 13" MBP in February so I really have no need for a new one even though the AIr is growing on me.

I agree it might be able to fit but would push costs even higher probably matching the 15 inch retina. The 15 inch has a bit more surface area for cooling as well.

go ahead and buy a new one which 2013 due to VGA and CPU improvement really there is no huge different between non-retina and Retina (but finally depending on your work if you do videos-Photoshop editing retina is the best choice)

I bought the 13 inch Retina and tried if for nearly two weeks. I loved the weight, size, and the amazing screen. Once you use the retina you will be ruined to go back. After a week I took it back and picked up a 15 inch Retina because its a better overall value. Now that I have the 15 inch I do miss the small light design but realize I'm better off sticking with the 15.
