Our Pink Lady Apple Tree is full of fruit! The three year old tree is thriving in The Green Yard. In this video I go over how the tree was planted and show you the abundant apples currently on the tree. I can't want to start harvesting in the middle of summer so I can enjoy some home grown apples. Learn more by subscribing and following us on Facebook and Instagram.

Hi Kathleen, thank you for watching and commenting! I really appreciate hearing your feedback about how easy and doable I made growing a pink lady apple tree seem. It is easy and definitely a rewarding fruit tree to grow. I have several trees from Costco although my pink lady I bought from a local nursery. Good luck with your apple growing and let me know if you have questions.

I’m about to try in SW FL lol. Bought a bag of them, and the seeds had already sprouted inside the apples so… I’m gonna try lol. I don’t know how well it’ll work.

Hello @brie3679, thank you for watching and commenting! That is awesome that you are going to try growing some Pink Lady Apples in SW FL! I hope it works out for you. They are a good apple and a somewhat easier tree to grow and have produce here in Phoenix. I think it may be interesting to see how they grow from seed since I know most Pink Lady Apple Trees are grafted. You'll have to keep me updated on your progress and hopefully your successes. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you!!. Can never have enough updates, that's for sure. (gentle reminder: in title, you could mention the honeycrisp apple tree update, as it was in there, therfore legit to mention in title) ♡♡

I started growing Pink Lady apple trees from seed and they're in my kitchen in the window right now there are about 6 in tall and I live in Colorado I would love to plant them outside but would like to know if I should wait till next spring since we're already in July
@thegreenyardaz
@thegreenyardaz 2 года назад
Hi Angel, that is a great question! In Phoenix we can plant year round because of our mild winter. I'm not sure about in Colorado. If it were me and I lived in Colorado I would probably wait until next spring to give the tree the best chance to establish itself before its winter again. I'm not an expert but that is probably what I would do.

I want to grown a pink lady and Im in zone 9A Southern Las Vegas. Will it grow in a large pot you think? The soil her isnt really soil, its devoid of all minerals and is just very rocky.

Hi DeeDee, thank you for watching! I think a pink lady apple tree would do fine in Las Vegas. Mine is planted in full sun and thrives even when it's 115 degrees outside. Our soil is essentially just clay and lacks minerals and life as well. I would recommend amending the soil that you plant your tree in and use heavy mulch to bring up the organic matter content in your soil. This is what I have done for my Apple trees and they are doing very well. Let me know if you have any other questions.

@@thegreenyardaz Thanks. Would you ever plant them in a big pot?

Hi DeeDee, I think they could probably be planted in a big pot and survive. I have not tried that here in The Green Yard but I'm sure it's possible. I would say give it a shot and hopefully get some delicious apples from it. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Which wall do you have it on? North?
@thegreenyardaz
@thegreenyardaz Год назад
Hi, thank you for watching and commenting! Our Pink Lady Apple tree is on the West wall of The Green Yard. So it gets sun all day long and the wall it's on gets hot too. This is definitely a tree that can survive and thrive in Phoenix with the proper care. Let me know if you have any questions.

Do you need a cross pollinator like a Gala or Fuji?
@thegreenyardaz
@thegreenyardaz Год назад
Hello, thank you for watching and commenting! That is a great question. No, for this tree I do not need a cross pollinator. From my research and from talking to other apple growers, the cross pollination helps to increase the production of the tree but most apple trees will self pollinate and create their own fruit. I have even more fruit this year as well, which you can see in my more recent, "Bountiful Apples, Peaches, Grapes and More!! Touring a Mini STONE FRUIT ORCHARD in Phoenix, AZ" video. Hope this helps answer your question!

From seed

Hi Brian, thank you for watching and commenting! This tree was not grown from seed, it is grafted and I purchased it when it was already a few years old in a fifteen gallon pot. I have had the tree myself for over four years so it is definitely becoming a mature tree. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I mean, if its a seed from a pink lady apple, people do realise it wont taste the same as a pink lady apple in the shops...? Depends what it was pollinated with....crab apple etc... Only a direct cutting from an original pink lady tree will clone that taste... Anyone confirm this? Just so others aren't investing (5-10yrs etc) in the dream lol....

Hello, thank you for watching and commenting! My understanding is that the type of apple depends on the root stock. So for my Pink Lady or Cripps Pink Apple, it is grafted onto a rootstock tree. I'm not sure what the rootstock is but I believe that a seed from these apples would not be a Pink Lady but instead would be whatever the rootstock is. The cutting directly from the original tree would clone that taste, yes. I would never try to start a stone fruit or citrus tree from seed because there is no guarantee that you would get that exact variety of fruit. That is why I like to buy my trees already established (and typically grafted) from a nursery. Not only does this guarantee that I will get the fruit I want, I will also get fruit in maybe 2-3 years instead of 10.

Hi David, thank you for watching and commenting! I’m sorry you did not find this video helpful. Around the 4:45 mark I did talk very briefly about how I planted this tree but I did not show it. I would recommend you check out our Honeycrisp Apple tree planting video if you want more of an in depth Apple tree planting video. Our growing videos are typically updates after the tree has already been planted where as the planting videos are detailed descriptions of planting methods and putting the trees in the ground.
