I just got the Homepod. I didn't pay full price. I saved almost $100 on it. It gets pretty loud without any distortion. I was amazed that I had the volume at 100% in the master bedroom, went into the bathroom and told Siri to stop playing the music, without yelling and yet it heard me. Pretty amazing. Siri on it works really well for the things it can do, though it's limited compared to siri in the iPhone. I think that will change in time. I also have a echo dot and a Google mini that I play around with. Oh and Alexa in my Ecobee 4. So I get to compare them. Even Cortana on my Windows Desktop and on my Xbox One. I don’t think having the HomePod on carpet was a good thing. It’s going to muffle some sound. Also its unidirectional, where the Bose is Directional. So there are pros and cons with each. Still, no Highs, no Lows, must be Bose. Bose is like Monster Cable. Way over rated for what it is. They both have had great marketing over the years. The HomePod would never be a replacement for my 5.1 surround sound system. Much larger speakers and the Base on that is so much larger. No Smart Speaker could compare. The HomePod does sound great. But only good for you if you’re in Apples Ecosystem. You also really need to subscribe to Apple Music. For me, I’m not sure I’m going to start paying for that past the trial as I don’t hear enough music to make the $10 a month worth it. There needs to be a cheaper option, just limit the hours it can be used or whatever.
Rennie Ash Maybe not, but I still think they're over rated. I think you can get really nice speakers for what you would be paying for Bose and still save money.
JB Dragon they will always be expensive I think. The value isn't quite there, but I think they are forced to be at least a little more competitive in this market. Apparently their pocket sized speaker is hard to beat while staying within the size constraint.
Very useful comparison because I own a Soundlink Mini and am thinking about buying a HomePod to use as my primary speaker. I live in a small space, so don't have room for dual speakers etc. As you stated, the Mini is a great little speaker, and I would fully recommend it as a portable bluetooth speaker. That HomePod sounds sick though. Thanks bro.
The HomePod has very clean sound. And it has multiple microphones so that it can listen to where it is placed in the room. Using the Apple designed processor that’s in it, it can use the information from the microphones to accurately distribute sound throughout a room. It is spatially aware so it knows if it’s next to a wall or if it’s in the center of the room. The vocals are beamed towards the center of a room, and the ambient sound is bounced off the surrounding walls to give a better surround sound experience. Thing about this HomePod is that it sounds great no matter how quiet or loud it is. At max volume, there is no distortion. And in low volume, there is really high quality bass with crisp clean audio quality. You’ll notice the quality right off the bat when you first listen to it. It’s the speaker I’ve been waiting for since a year ago. I tried Sonos and Bose. Bose has the better audio quality but Sonos has the better connectivity and better app user interface. HomePod is the best of both which is what I was waiting for. And I knew only Apple could pull it off as they are good in both, hardware and software design. Keep in mind, HomePod is not a Bluetooth speaker. It is an accessory for iPhone and it uses more advanced wireless protocols than Bluetooth.
Dani Wornath I have the Bose and it sounds amazing. However the optimal angle for listening is pretty narrow. The HomePod has 360 degree sound to its advantage.
The bose soundlink mini sounds awesome for its size. However, mine started ramdomly shutting off while on battery or connected. Tried everything Bose suggested like resetting and even taking the battery out for a while and putting it back in. Ended up buying a second Soundlink Mini and also started randomly shutting off after about 3 months. So, they are basically useless now. Just ordered a Homepod.
The guy tells us what to compare, and then do it. I think you did a great job SimplyPros! The biggest differents between those two is wifi/bluetooth. If you all do not like this, why don't you make one yourself?
That’s not max volume on the HomePod. You have to actually tell Siri to to set the volume (ex: 100%, 25%). Set the volume to max on the iPhone and tell Siri to set it to 100%. Way way louder than you think.
It's not a fair comparison, the number of speakers and wattage also since this is a plugged unit vs battery, should have been considered. You also want to consider the homepod is a circular array speaker set vs Bose's front facing speakers. Nonetheless the Bose sounded impressive for its size and capacity. The homepod will definitely win. Sheer number of speakers, size and power with matching DSP.
All the people complaining about the "unfair" comparison. It doesn't need to be "fair". It's a comparison!!! Also, I bet some people are using speakers or headphones that don't actually go as low in bass as the homepod XD
SimplyPops I've been on a little rant spree about people saying "you can't compare" on various videos - they're watching the comparison right there! :)
Well This video is getting alot of dislikes from alot of many groups Comparing The HomePod to a Bose speaker Anybody which is a Audiophile knows Bose sell some overpriced shit for what you get and there are better alternatives out there. Then you are comparing a Portable speaker to a Powered speaker (Active Speaker) Difference A portable speaker is powered by a battery and that limits the amount of drivers and the RMS output on those drivers Most Bluetooth portable speakers will have drivers ranging from 3-15watt RMS While A Powered Speaker (Active Speaker) you are able to get the mains voltage (After conveterted from AC to DC) which is a lot more then a battery in a portable speaker can do Even though the Homepod sounds good specially in the lows But uses alot of digital signal processing Meaning that it can produces sound around 30hz but when you start to turn up the volume the speaker will start to flat line and the highs will over power the lows The 4 inch woofer is comparable to a TCP115-4 or a TCP115-8 Most headphone drivers are aimed at producing a frequency range of 20hz-20000khz (The Human hearing spectrum) But my headphones are around 12hz-39000Khz Usual load speakers on the other hand very Cause you have many types of speakers Portable speakers, Bookshelf, Floor standing and other types
I am considering between the homepod and the echo dot. If I connect the echo dot to a logitech z623 2.1 system, would it sound better or worse than the homepod?
JonnyInfinite its because its woofer mainly pushes the sound out the bottom, and because its sitting on a carpet everything but the highes is handled by woofer so you litterally hear most of the sound through a carpet
I’m not sure how that is possible Bose sounds better... this is a unfair comparison with the HomePod being much bigger and more powerful... It is not physically possible for the Bose to sound better...
Hey just wondering do you think using the Apple HomePod in the bathroom will damage the speaker? I see that there is an option for bathroom when setting up. I need a good sounding speaker for large bathroom space. Ideally a smart speaker. thanks. I’m currently using a bose soundlink mini 1st Generation with a towel over it to keep out the moisture. Which this speaker isn’t recommended to be used in the bathroom.
Dude, is there a red light flashing on the top of your iPhone X? If so, what is it & how do you do that? Great comparison, I have the Bose Oundlink ll, limited edition white & white leather, but I’m aiming to buy the Apple HomePod in the next few week as it just sounds awesome! Thanks again, man 👍🏼
I forgot to turn off "Attention Aware" on my iPhone X. It's a feature where it always scanning my face (or eyes) to keep my phone always awake. If I'm not looking the screen will dim and eventually put the phone to sleep.
Vic Cao I have the Bose revolve plus! Just got 2 HomePods on Saturday. The HomePod is much better, crisp, clear at high volumes, and the base is awesome too! Now, something to be aware of the HomePod is not wireless! I am selling my Bose on eBay now! I think you should go and listen to the HomePod at Best Buy!
I have the both, Apple HomePod and Bose SoundLink Revolve Plus, when you compare one by one Revolve Plus is winer, Its sound has more detail than HomePod, With me louder does not mean It is better. p/s: Bose SoundLink Revolve Plus also smaller more mobility, I think Apple's strategy one HomePod is about uses Siri for control smart home instead of focus on delivery best sound.
Honestly, this is apples to oranges. I wouldn't buy bose soundlink mini to use as a smart speaker and I wouldn't buy a homepod to use as a portable bluetooth speaker. You should compare the homepod to something like a Google home max.
Actually homepod still win for sound quality for sure, easily and Period! When you use homepod, it doesn’t distorted when you crank up the volume to 100% and for google home max start distorted when you set volume to approximately 80% to 100% but for “smart” side of course google home max win
I thought Apple screwed up big by throwing billions at Beats when they could have bought either Bose or Harman Industries (JBL, Harman-Kardan, etc.), a long-time respected speaker-maker with lots of automobile action. But if the Home-Pod can match or beat the Sound-link, I'll give Apple more credit. -- I thought Bose was over-priced. Then my wife gave me a Soundlink Mini. It's not just the frequency range: it's the ability of the Bose to filter out gratuitous noise and serve you the frequencies that matter. It's as if they've got a professional little engineer inside the speaker who mixes the sound. I just plug the Bose into my Sony flat-screen's headphones OUT port to improve the sound by 50 %.
Very unfair comparison. Boss are great but you can’t not compare both since boss is a very small and portable unlike apple pod that’s has huge drivers inside. I’m still love Bose for portability and great sound
Well, he just did compare them, so yes you can compare them. The Pod has 1 4" driver. Not huge and not "drivers" XD But impressive for the size. Now I want to make a soundlink giga with 4" drivers :)
That is the crappiest song I have ever heard. A terrible choice for any comparison. Apple sounds a bit beefier. But for the price, the Bose is the better value.
Apple's is an omni speaker. It needs to be placed somewhere the highs can reflect,(eg not on a towel) however, it will always sound more "spacious" and not as direct due to the omni design and small ports that the sound comes from.
There's a big difference when I listen to this on my big speakers ;p But only in the bass extension/power. Treble and mids are different too, but harder to judge due to room interaction of his room
What a joke of a comparison. Both are overpriced. The Bose is easily defeated by a $65 Sony XB20, and the Homeboy by 2 x Sonos One, paired together @ the same price. This demo is another fanboy pushing crApple products. "Apple really outdid themselves with this one." Bahahahaa, what a load of nonsense.
Any audiofile will tell you they would never buy bose. They are overpriced and the sound quality sucks. Now the homepod wouldn’t be on an audiofile list either. A real audiofille utilizes cabinetspeakers. Or some nice martin logans. For the comparison. The homepod does shine more in open spaces. Because the bose speaker is a directional speaker. But put a homepod up against the wall and the sound quality diminishes rapidly.
Ivan except Bose doesn’t have a speaker that has the technology the HomePod uses. I won’t lie. I love Bose and own a lot of their products. But The HomePod will win almost every time when compared to a directed sound speaker. Play 1. Play 3. Google max. etc. It sounds better and equal from any direction you listen to it. The sound engineers went crazy to get this sounding top quality. Look at apples sound design rooms they built for it. Even big sound companies don’t have that stuff. But apples got money haha. Especially from a company that has not have had history or experience in sound. Check out the review from the verge. The revolve won’t even come close to this. Also he shoulda asked to play max volume. Siri unlocks full power. And to not have distortion as well.
You can compare them. A silly statement. Apple just uses a room analyser in addition to the EQ that Bose already uses. They aren't so different tbh in terms of tech. The Homepod uses an omni design, which is needed for such speakers like this.
Hey don’t lie to the people man that’s not so loud and is not worth the 380 dollars for that junk. And hey I have apple products but on that speaker they lost. There out there lots of better speakers . Look what you’re are comparing a 199 old speaker to a almost 400 dólar speaker . Hey sorry man but be clear to the people .not every one has that money to throw away . Sorry but it’s what it is,,
