These versus videos must be painstakingly difficult to create for the editor, I love the aesthetics of these videos as much I love the content and the bits of humor that Lauren adds in between, good work, keep em coming.

The editing and timing in the Versus videos is extremely underrated, especially in this video. The syncing between the two Lauren's during the music playing part was amazing. That editor is awesome.

A more fair review would be putting 2 Sonos One's in stereo and testing against that since you can get 2 Sonos One's for the same price of the Home Pod

I think it's important to say this, If Lauren isn't running The Verge in future, we're all going to be cheated. She's the most detailed and creative reporter in the business. Please recognize her talent and give her the ability to keep making The Verge better and better.

I own a sonos and it's great. I love how several ppl can download the app and just use it as a remote. For example my dad when I'm not at home. And he doesn't need to download spotify or tunein (the services I use). Just sonos app. Price is good. Sound, good.

I don't think this is a good comparison. The HomePod seems to be more aligned with the Google Home Max and the Sonos Play 5.

My favourite series

Great concept. Good way to show you don't need to be biased. I've got an iPhone, Spotify and echo dots,so I thought I'd invest in the Sonos One. I bought two infact. They are so poor when it comes to the virtual assistant as the mic can hardly ever hear you. My echo dots around the house are much better, plus they aren't limited in echo features, which the One is. Returned mine today after 6 months. Wait til the next one if you are considering.

Hello, is there any difference in the quality of the audio when using Airplay vs. Apple music. please advise.

Honestly, the Sonos sounded horrible compared to the HomePod.

Really enjoy this series. I switched over to Apple Music so I can get a HomePod. I love the walled garden of Apple. I prefer a closed ecosystem with seamless communication between all devices.

HomePod is better at sound.. but worse because it doesn't have the support I want. Sorry Apple, I have almost everything from you.. but after having tried Apple Music on several occations, I will stick with my Spotify. No voice support for Spotify, not buy from me.

I want an intelligent assistant that will play every episode of Versus by Lauren Goode. They’re all awesome. (And they’re made with some kind of Lauren-cloning magic invented, I think, by DARPA.)

I have two play 3s in position ready to go as a surround system, roll on 17th July...hope it sounds good.

I’ve owned both and did A/B testing in the same room. Sound quality is comparable after you run the initial adjustment process with the homepod. Sonos has more of a sound ecosystem if you are using it for movie/tv sound. Homepod has the Siri functions. I do like how Sonos sells speaker stands. I didn’t know you couldn’t pair Homepods in stereo, I thought that was possible and even in the day 1 demo on stage.

I felt this was a little bit like HomePod versus sonos... didn’t really learn a lot about the Sonos and it felt it was very much judging against the HomePod and only the negatives were focused on

Love my Sonos One SL’s..., just added as surrounds! Tried them as stand alone and paired as stereo and they put out a clean full sound. As an iPhone user I feel Sonos has done a great job with compatibility with Apple. Would definitely encourage a purchase of these speakers👍. Oh yeah..., Goode review Lauren!!!

I got the sonos 1 .i love the sound quality. I believe i had higher expectations for it as far as functionality. But all in all i love the sound☺☺

I have Sonos. I like it. I bought them from Apple when apple use to sell them. My gripe with Sonos is that it doesn’t work well with imusic & random isn’t really random. I hear the same songs being played like a list. Not sure what to do? I’m leaning towards HomePod cause I use apple products. I have 3 Sonos-1’s.

After reading other comments, will add this. With Airplay 2, my Beam has Bluetooth as well. It doesn’t show on the Bluetooth setting. A few simple instructions let me play all my Google Play music from my IPhone, on my Beam. Airplay 2 also lets me play You Tube music videos with video on my TV, and sound on my Beam. Just a simple click. Sonos software is amazing. Suggest getting the Beam and a Sonos One. That gives you a Soundbar and stereo. I prefer the Beam to the Play-bar. Not as powerful, but the built in Alexa is great. Hope google assist is added soon.

To bad the Sonos One has limiter issues causing it to sound distorted when Trueplay is activated.

Ladies ladies ladies..... I have and use both. Mainly because Sonos was easy to set up for a surround sound system for my Tv, but all the smart home features these two control, Apple Homekit is by far the most reliable. I’ve also had Google Home and Still have Echo Dot. I enjoy the diversity between these different speakers and find it to be an advantage to purchase and learn to use each one for the advantages they have. However, when it comes to changing my lights on, off, or color, or locking my doors, opening the garage door, or any other thing homekit supports, it is by far more reliable and easier to set up. Plus I can share with other people. My favorite is the thermostat. I haven’t had to get out of bed in the morning to turn the heat up before I take a shower. I do it right from my bed. And with geo fence, I can have my home shut down when I pass a certain point and have it ready when I arrive home. The Lyric T5 thermostat is by far the best in my opinion. I just can’t wait to have a zoned heating and cooling system In my home with a thermostat in every room so I can run the AC in the attic in the summer and the Heat in the basement at the same time lol

Great review!!! I’ll buy Sonos. Actually this is not a fair comparison because the HomePod is a stereo speaker. You have to compare 2 Sonos ones with one HomePod. Then the Sonos will sound better. Otherwise you have to compare 1 HomePod with play 5.

Sonos - hands down. And I still think I the sonos 5 Kills the HomePod. It’s worth more - just my opinion. Cool video.
