Apple Intelligence Will Cost Almost Everyone! 😡 

No problem here. I want nothing to do with AI. I'll keep my 14 Pro Max and keep doing what I've been doing. We all have choices. If it means that much to someone, they'll get the new phone.

They always need to make a reason for you to upgrade to a new iPhone.

My 1 year old iPhone 14 Pro misses out, but my older M1 Macbook Pro gets it. I guess I do 90% of what I care about on the laptop anyway...

You buy a phone for what it currently can do. Not for what it may or may not be able to do down the road.

Apple is the master of Nickel & Diming their customers. iPhone is an amazing product, but having to deal with the Apple business model would frustrate me to no end.

During the keynote when they said it’s available for A17 chip, I knew it was Apple speak for “you gotta drop money on a new iPhone 15 Pro to maximize this.” Most people are holding on to their phones now for longer.

lol. Like we didn't know already. Apple literally moved the camera module aside 1 mm so your older iPhone case don't fit in the new one and have to buy another, even though the rest of the phone is identical in dimensions. When will Apple sheep learn? (don't think they'll ever do honestly).

I would make the argument that Siri should have had these capabilities from the beginning without having to implement so called AI which in all reality is technically machine learning mixed with artificial neural intelligence. I think people are really misinformed about what AI is currently. In reality it’s just another “feature” that’s been around for quite some time now and it’s now being pushed for smartphones to basically sell new devices. It’s not something you need or really should even care about.

This year is the year of having two phones. I got the 13PM and a P8P with AI features

This is not new. They even mentioned this in keynote. However, it won’t kill them to at least make Siri better for the older models.

I have been fine with no AI on my iPhone 13 mini. I am not surprised that I won’t be getting it. However if I was a iPhone 14 Pro or 15 user I would be pissed.

I mentioned this before on podcasts. If Apple’s gonna incorporate AI features, it’ll have to start using 12gb ram with considerably larger batteries.

You also have to get a new phone to use the camera upgrades. I don’t really see a difference here.

If I want generative AI I could use the variety of different tools and apps that are available

Can Sony Xperia 1 VI has any way to able to erase object in photo, move object in photo, circle things on screen to google it and Gemini things to set things and find things and do things? Plus custom a button to immediately open an app?

Another thing people aren’t thinking of or thanking about is (Storage) with Ai applications and functions being stored on device this may take up a lot more storage room on devices so there was a reason why Apple put 128 GB as base storage on devices this year . Soon Apple will force you to pay $150 more for 256 GB because 128GB probably will not be enough for 70% of users.

It’s just a starting point…15 pro and later. Another reason why you don’t buy your phone through carriers…

I totally agree with you I said this in my last comment, Apple are getting so greedy it’s new everything with them now. I have the basic 15 and I have also noticed the some case companies only make cases for the pro and the pro max . A lot of people will fork out money they don’t have to get this it’s a shame , thanks as always Adam 😊

My primary phone is my Pixel 6a but I was carrying a 2020 SE as well. My daughter wanted a smaller phone so I gave her the SE to see if she liked it. She loves the SE so now I’ve inherited her iPhone 11 lol…. I definitely have no intention of buying the latest top of the line iPhone just to have their AI features. I might but a 2022 SE at some point.

Doubt the non-pro 16s will have enough RAM to run Apple Intelligence. It's definitely Apple's way of doing things to gatekeep this tech for Pro iPhones and iPads.

I have a 14 pro I was disappointed that it wasn’t included in the Apple intelligence, but then I guess that’s there way to monopolize the market. I just didn’t think my 14 pro would be considered a “peasant” phone this quickly.

Should’ve known Apple was up to something concerning MONEY, when pertaining to the 16 lineup. It’s just ridiculous what they’re spending in advertising for this new phone lineup. It makes sense now. I’m good with my 15ProMax for the next 5-6 years. The battery can be replaced with another one if needed.

Yeah, I feel like the people with the 12, 13, and 14 Pro phones are definitely going to feel out of style and want to upgrade.

I'm pretty sure Apple is just spinning up their generative AI models and have just recently discovered they'll need 8 GB RAM to run 'em. Remember that iPhone development begins about two years prior to release, and the phones are designed to run the OS they'll have at release - not the OS that's somewhere down the road after release. For Apple, the whole generative AI on-device thing has only appeared quite recently, long after older phone designs were set in stone.

I doubt that the iPhone 16 will have the A17 Pro - A17 Pro is built on TSMC's N3B node which Apple is _desperately_ trying to retire. iPhone 16 will probably use an A18 built on TSMC's N3E node.

Had pretty much guessed this was going to happen simply due to the RAM issue and I was stating it before WWDC but nobody believed me at first. My iPhone 15 Reg will not get these features but it doesn't bother me as I'm switching it up to the 16Pro in anyhow at least my iPad Air 5 makes the cut due to M1 chip 😅

For those of us who are not English-ish, email help for composition is what Samsung does with its keyboard across all apps and it’s great for email to help it be more professional. Now apple has it so I’ll go back to iPhone in September for work. They could allocate storage especially if you have 256gb or higher.

So much for all their talk about 'sustainability'. I just spent a thousand bucks on an iPhone which was guaranteed to accommodate all updates until 2027 - ha!

The question is: how many users will actually use AppleAI? Especially, after the initial hype fades out. Their introduction of the AI features on the flagship seems to be a cautious move, since a) it will allow to test the feature on the enthusiasts and the early adopters and b) consider if the new low-level devices will actually need it. Personally, if an AI is not pushed down my throat that's not a big deal. Yet I am not impressed by what it offers.

That sounds like a practical business decision. iPhones have always been smooth, fast, and efficient. When was the last time someone said “iPhones need more RAM!” Now they do. The first half of WWDC focused on Neural Engine and machine learning, which will work on older phones. However, new features under Apple Intelligence will require more RAM. Your concerns should also extend to Nvidia's $30k AI chip, which could eventually impact Android users with high costs.

I have the Mac mini M2 & iPad pro M1 so I think that’ll suffice for me since M series chips are supported👍🏾 Also I’m pretty sure the new Siri will be available going back to iPhone 11 at least. So most of won’t feel so cheated.

Yeah I understand that the “Apple Intelligence” needs a lot of power and RAM to run a LLM natively. I also understand this is the beginning of a long term development in how we use our smartphones for the next decade plus. Just make the Siri for the rest of us a little better please 😂

It’s all good because I’ll be upgrading to the 16 pro max , nothing is perfect, Samsung is charging you a monthly subscription for their AI after 1 year

Hi! It's very good news that my 14 pro max doesn't get that oversaturated AI, that AI is already oversaturated. I was hoping the 15 pro max wouldn't get that AI either. I can use my 14 pro max in peace, and on the 15 pro max I turn off the AI, if such an option exists on the iPhone. And if my Xperia 1 VI finally arrives, which also doesn't use too much AI, then all will be well. There's not much to choose from phones anymore, everything is ruined by this redundant AI and it's sad and horrifying at the same time! This is my description, knowledge and experience at this point in time and it doesn't have to be suitable for others!

Come on. First, you need 8 gigs at least to run it. Also, Apple is a business at the end of the day. All of these phones(including Androids) aren’t that different year over year anymore. You could easily go 3-4 years and not even think about upgrading! Especially with phones being supported so long. They need something to make people upgrade lol! You still have people out there with iPhone 12’s who still felt like they were good. From now on, I think every so often, Apple will add something and only support recent phones to create a super cycle. It is what it is!

Well on the bright side, we are likely at the peak of the hype phase that new technology goes through. This phase will be followed by a period of disappointing results and inability to deliver on the loftiest of promises. This will then see investments shift away from the tech leaving just a few companies to continue to work and eventually get to a level where the tech generally works well but at a diminished level that was initial dreamed of. This is what is known as the Gartner Hype Cycle. Generative AI is roughly at the peak right before the decline.

Now we might see $400 for another 4GB Ram upgrade for iPhone to milk your money for it's intelligence

AI is in fact a gimmick indeed, it is NOT ai at all :D LLM or Machine Learning, generative or not, is not ai, it's like calling human ability to smell "the entire brain and intelligence." No, it's just a tiny subset of the capabilities of intelligence, very tiny subset.
