Installing SSD instead of ordinary HDD is good decision almost in any case. This upgrade greatly decrease time of loading any program from Mac Mini storage to memory, because almost any model laptop CPU loads data to RAM faster, than any Mac Mini HDD can read. You have to basically disassemble the entire unit to reach the HDD! You know they designed it like that on purpose to discourage people from doing this.

You can still do it thought. There's a reason why 2014 mac mini's are still viable while any windows compute has been complete obsoleted

@@SetssonIVI You must be joking fanboy. 2011-2014 Dell and Lenovo Mini-PCs are just as powerful but actually meant to be upgradable by the end-user using mosty clip on and a simple philips head. You definitely do not need a tutorial to do it. I have to watch this nonsense because favours suck.

Thanks for the video. Got mine upgraded following this video! Not too difficult just took my time and watched video several times. I suggest a USB boot drive and not the internet thing which did not work for me. P.S. also found out slightly later this Model can also take a NVMe SSD drive (wow!) which is even faster. I added this as well. Now I have two 1TB drives and the boot drive is on the NVMe for even faster boot times.

Only Apple could make this task so complex (probably on purpose), I remember updating the same style HD in my Playstation 3 to SSD, just one screw and it pops out the front, replaced in 30 seconds.

If you install the m.2 ssd its way way easier. I also upgraded the internal hard drive as well with an hdd.

Hi, at 2.26 you lift a connector with that black prying tool, what is that connection..... I made a mistake and lifted from the front and it is broken. Pls let me know what it is and what I must do to fix it? Will i have to replace the whole multi-cable? many thx. Keith

Yeah. Total BS. I lifted that connector instead of sliding it back and the pins broke off. No way to fix it. Mac is a brick now.

Do you mean where to get Mac OS? The easiest way is to connect your Mac to the Internet and start recovery mode.

That oblong piece of tape that you removed and did not replace is used to ensure a good connection between the drive and the adaptor. It is more important to use on a HDD due to vibration but can prevent problems with an SSD.

You can just do a time machine and reinstall after from that. I tink its the safety solution.

Omg Apple. Worst design ever. Someone gave me a 2014 Mac Mini and I figured I'd upgrade the ram and hard drive to SSD. I think I'll throw it in the trash now.
