Really enjoyed this, brought me back to my days working for an Apple dealer repairing Macs, those capacitors on the analog board were always an issue, especially on the Mac Plus.
Excellent job! I watched parts 1 and 2. The Classic II was my first Mac, which I purchased in Jan 1992 from Micro Center (which is STILL in business as of 2023!). I had them upgrade the RAM to 10 MB at the store. Stock HD was a whopping 40 MB. It shipped with System 7.0.1. I also bought an Apple LaserWriter II-NT and a modem. I had been renting time on Mac SE’s at Kinko’s, creating promo material in PageMaker. It was a big deal to have a Mac of my own. It finally gave up the ghost in the early 2000s, by which time I had acquired various other Macs. Thanks for the memories. Subscribed. 🤓
@@theserialport Nice. As I recall, the then-current version of PageMaker ran fairly decently on those all-in-one Macs. I’m sure you would be able to source that software, if you haven’t already. I know you said you’re more PC-centric, but I look forward to any future Mac vids.
Nice job! I remember the sound of the hard drive in those days was half of the experience. But I can understand why you’d want to remove that element of failure 😊
Very disappointed you didn't cut away from the music with a scratched record transition to the tada.wav sound effect. These were very 'noisey' machines and I was already a PC snob, so the thought of doing an IT course in college with these is what drove me to do electronics instead. Then do a project specifically about the operation of hard drives - looking back, maybe I was too harsh :P I have enjoyed the videos so far, they are fantastic.
I don't think you needed to do the partitioning step. That's only necessary if you want to use multiple partitions, such as an OS partition and a data partition, or to install A/UX as well. Initialising the hard disk was the only required step.
My first desktop was an original MAC. I had an external SCSI hdd that you had to flip the switch on second, turn ln mac then quickly turn on hdd. If yiu did in the other irder or wait too long it failed to boot
Krishna, thanks for watching! It is most certainly not a question of _will we_ do it, but how will we get the Classic II on the Internet. Sneakernet gets old, fast. We will get this machine online somehow- can't yet say if it will be dial-up or LAN.
