Those are people not albums. Love Whitney. Maybe the GOAT singer. Her singles were great but her albums were not good. This list is about cohesive albums of quality. I do think Emancipation of Mimi deserves a spot.
Instead of after hours I would argue that The Trilogy was far more influential and also pushed the Weekend into stardom. After hours is still a good pick tho as it defined the 80s sound revolution in the 2020s
@@tupcilian7645oh absolutely! i love the trilogy so much, but it’s not an album. erm actually ☝🏾🤓 , it’s a compilation album with 3 new songs. abel said it’s not an album. think of “The Highlights.” and i would put house of balloons in the list, but it’s a mixtape
@@tupcilian7645 the 80's sound rev of the 2020's? I think its something of an end cap to a lot of the same sounds that came out the decade before, and ALL of that combined obviously lead to the current string of synth-whatever. I dont know if that Album is really influential enough when you add it to the list and also consider its rather late in a fashion.
Blackout not making this list is criminal! Britney single-handedly changed the pop music industry with that album and i wish she got her flowers for it. there’s so many pop albums snubbed in this list. the impact and artistry within pop music is always undermined and this is just another example of that.
Fame monster should to be in the top 50, imo. it defined a whole generation and left a huge mark for pop. it’s gaga’s best work and the fact that it’s an EP just proves that less is more.
I totally agree honestly The Fame, The Fame Monster, Born This Way, and Artpop easily are some of my favorite albums of all time with the Fame Monster being my favorite album/ep of all time it's an incredible body of work the only song that I'd say even slightly brings it down is Teeth and I still think it's a good song
my main issue with the list was that it seems like they were trying very hard to modernize some of the picks which is why we had some recent albums (astroworld, 1989 tv) that didn’t really belong there. excluding artist with albums that have stood the test of time (like mariah and whitney) made this bad choice even more evident.
The fact that Beyonce on here twice but not Michael. And then to put Lauryn Hill over Thriller as if that album didnt change the entire music industry 🤦🏽♀️
I mean I agree MJ should’ve had two albums Beyoncé’s albums quite literally changed the entire music industry as well. And Lauryn definitely deserved #1 because outside of sales and impact Miseducation is 100x’s more cohesive a project than thriller
Beyonce's self titled changed how music is released to this day lol. It's been like a decade and artists still drop projects on Fridays instead of Tuesdays bc of beyonce. Lemonade is her most critically acclaimed album and she does a ton of genres but remains cohesive in execution and theme. Hate her and yeah she could be ranked lower but she absolutely deserves to be on here twice. Get mad at the other placements like travis Scott lol
Michael should've been on the list three times for Thriller, Bad and Off The Wall however Beyoncé should also be on the list more than once considering her discography
Taylor definitely deserves to be on that list but definitely not for 1989, folklore should've been the one who took the spot it's one of her if not best written albums. But if they're going for rerecordings I think Red (Taylor's Version) was a better pick than 1989 (Taylor's Version)
@@redmigachagirl be so ffr she literally was one of the main pop girls that carried the 2000s and blackout is also in the rock and roll hall of fame sooooo
to put billie eilish’s album , or any album of her’s , higher than a lady gaga , a lana del rey , or lorde album is quite astonishing in a negative way and disrespectful. her music is good , but no.
MJ shouldn’t be number 1 anyway bc he doesn’t have the best album of all time. There are better albums. Thriller is the best selling. Sales don’t dictate quality of an album. And it’s not even his best album
@@uyxaszprobably bc the album is good. More sonically experimental, lyrically layered, and critically acclaimed. 1989 sold a lot of copies and has catchy songs but didn't change music much. Taylor was already pop with red like all the singles are pop lol
I was looking for that album the whole time. She was definitely robbed. Also, putting Billie Eilish at 30 is insane to me. Don’t get me wrong, her music is good but I don’t think any of her albums should be in the top 100 of all time.
I feel like it's there to not upset the Swifties and it's Taylor's Version because it's the version that she owns and is going to promote and advertise in the future
Apple Music was definitely pandering here because ranking those Beyoncé albums & Taylor Swift so high just comes off as not wanting to make the fan bases mad.
Beyonce self titled changed the way music is dropped and marketed. Lemonade was a cultural influential album during the blm movement. I dont know about Taylor tho.
Lemonade was all about performative activism, and I'm glad it's over. Imagine thinking that"i just might be a black bill gates in the making." is helpfull. The album aged badly and it's barely doing 500k streams. Self-titled still remains her most influential album.
@leenabraham9217 that was just one song. The whole album concept was about infidelity and forgiveness in marriage. And regarding streams, it was not made available on any other streaming service other than tidal. When it was by then hen it was already seasoned.
I know its not for everyone, but MCR’s The Black Parade not being on here is insane, it influenced so many artists, even outside the rock world like Billie Eilish
Technically I’d say Thursday deserves to be here before MCR considering Geoff producing Bullets is why they got their foot in the door plus Full Collapse is the most influential emo/post-hardcore record of the 00’s and that album influenced everyone from MCR to Hawthorne Heights to Taking Back Sunday to Fall Out Boy
It should be called the best AMERICAN AND BRITISH albums of all time. What about the Brazilian legend Chico Buarque in which even Madonna has bowed down to? What about Celine Dion? What about Italian, German, Japanese, Latin artists? It's unbelievable how ignorant people in the US can be. Popularity is very different from quality.
It's not really about British music either, it's an American list that includes some British music that is popular in the US. If it was a British list, there would most definitely be some girl groups and boy bands on it.
The list was about album impact, influence, and cohesion. One album made the list because it repopularized visual albums and changed the day music was released in the Music Industry the other being Lemonade is one of the most critically acclaimed albums ever it was influential to the GP by adding several slang terms, and it caused so much outrage and exposure for the BLM movement it was a rallying cry against police brutality it even made Police officers boycott protecting her while she went on tour
I wish that Queen was on the list, especially with their "A Night at the Opera" album. It's a great example of their bombastic and theatrical rock sound. The list includes David Bowie, so why not Queen?
CrazySexyCool, Daydream, Emancipation of Mimi, An Evening with Silk Sonic are just a few snubs that didn't sit well with me. Also notice Midnights didn't make it but SOS did.
I love sos but I'll admit it's not top 100 albums of all time. Didn't change anything and it hasn't been long enough to gage it's impact. Midnights was a mid album don't compare them
As a die-hard Switftie, I don't understand how 1989 (Taylor's Version) was the album chosen to be on this list, yes it's a great pop album but in terms of music, Red (Taylor's Version) or Folklore should've been in place instead and I think most people would agree with that. Folklore doesn't need any justifications, but Red (Taylor's Version) is absolutely magnificent and the vault songs are some of my absolute favourites, Forever Winter, Better Man and ATW10MV are amazing songs.
I agree I love 1989 to death but it's nowhere close to her best album in my opinion it is either Evermore or Folklore (I'd say Evermore has better songs but Folklore is a better album as a body of work)
10 albums to name a few... Rick James-Street Songs Bill Withers- Just As I am Alicia Keys-The Diary of Alicia Keys Queens of the Stone Age-Songs for the Deaf Common- Like Water for Chocolate Garth Brooks- No Fences Tatsuro Yamashita-For You Jill Scott-Who Is Jill Scott?: Words and Sounds Vol. 1 Wicked-Original Broadway Cast (2003)-Wicked Massive Attack-Mezzanine
How can they make a best album list and not include these. Crazy, Sexy, Cool - TLC Stankonia - OutKast Come On Over - Shania Twain Hybrid Theory - Linkin Park Ray of Light - Madonna Diary - Alicia Keys Off The Wall - Michael Jackson Too Pimp A Butterfly - Kendrick Lamar That’s The Way of The World - Earth, Wind & Fire Teenage Dream - Katy Perry Rhythm Nation - Janet Jackson The Velvet Rope - Janet Jackson Graduation - Kanye West Daydream - Mariah Carey Butterfly - Mariah Carey
As a Mariah fan, I would say Butterfly could be on it but for the rest I don’t really see any other albums that are outstanding enough. Her singles are fantastic but albums, mwah
a big problem i have with the album is it's lack of diversity. How could they skip African, Asian, Pacific and even european (good representation for the U.K tho) music. This list covers such a limited scope of recorded albums. They could've at least included world classics like Fela Kuti
even tho it's not the most lyrically advanced album, Teenage Dream should definitely be up here. Nearly every song was a #1 hit and the variety of music videos and live performances makes it a legendary album. Katy Perry ran the 2010s!
Christina Aguilera- Stripped was definitely snubbed. It was a revolutionary album for pop stars. A lot of pop stars have been following her standard with that album. The good girl gone bad type aesthetic. 3 bubblegum pop records then a rebel era. She revolutionised it. The album itself was diverse and had no skips. Loving Me 4 Me , Infatuation, Dirrty , Make Over and Can’t Hold Us Down showed us that she can explore many genres…
Personally, I think Madonna deserved to be a little higher in that top-100. And the lack of Whitney's albums, Queen and ABBA was rather disappointing. But overall it's great to see more modern artists in lists like that, although sometimes placing some of them above iconic classics is a bit weird 😅
RIGHT like omg 😭 I do like Taylor Swift’s old stuff (specifically evermore & folklore … I will never shut up about those albums). But 1989 ?!? No. I also don’t think top 20 is deserving either, probably in the 50s or 60s.
Not a swiftie, but 1989 definately deserves a top 20 spot for sure. I mean welcome to new york, wildest dreams, new romantics... i do agree with the fact that they clearly put taylor's version instead of the original just to not make the swifties mad, because the taylor's versions is for sure a downgrade.
@@ajasdeathdrop1556Folklore is better than 1989 and its still not a top 100. We gotta be honest here. Taylor is not a top tier artist. She just doesn't have it. And watch how Swifties will reply saying "Oh she is the most earning artist of today " or "She is the MJ of this generation ". Cause for them Popular means good
@@maunochromaticI definitely think folklore should’ve been on the list. 1989 is personally one of my least liked albums by Taylor. But hey music is subjective
You are absolutely right about MJ and Thriller. Best selling≠ best period I think Beyoncé definitely has a top 10 of all time worthy album. I think Lemonade is a good placement considering how cohesive, impactful and socially sound that album is. The music, vocals, emotion, and story telling are top tier. Blond is NOT better than lemonade or any of the albums it’s ahead of on the top 10.
Personally I do think Anti is her best album, but none of her albums are good enough to be on a top 100 albums list. I also hate how people always overrate Anti but ignore Rated R, which is just as interesting and also good in its own right
The fact that Mariah and Whitney were not on this list makes me question its validity. I also don't think that Laruyn hill should be number one even though Miseduation is an amazing album, Thriller will always be better.
1989 shot Taylor to superstardom when it came out and had tons of hits. I think it’s still her biggest album to date. I do think they put Taylor’s Version instead of the original to show support for the re-recordings but are definitely referencing the popularity and impact of the original.
@@bousie5876 i mean I respect your opinion, but 1989 is way more influential. Nobody nowadays knows who Katy Perry is, much less Teenage Dream, whereas 1989 is still talked about today, pioneered a lot of sounds in 2010s pop, and many younger musicians cite it as an influence
1989 Deluxe (original version) it’s a great pop album. Now the re-recorded Taylor Version, don’t think so… there are so many issues production wise going on and major engineering issues that for an artist of Taylor’s level are very questionable. You can find all over the Internet people discussing or complaining about certain noises and high pitched sounds that bothered or hurt some people. (they kinda fixed weeks later by lowering them a bit but they are still there). Putting it so high just speaks on how much favoritism there is nowadays towards Taylor and the lack of objectivity that is being projected in this list.
1989 TV really wasnt as bad as people where making it out to be in all reality. Style was honestly the worst effort on the project. Although you are correct somethings did change on the digital versions about 2 weeks after release
i'm a pop girly so my snubs might be a bit obvious but... blackout-britney spears teenage dream-katy perry futuresex/lovesounds-justin timberlake shock value-timbaland loud/good girl gone bad-rihanna love angel music baby-gwen stefani tragic kingdom/rock steady-no doubt no strings attached-nysnc baby one more time/oops i did it again-britney spears *the last two are really solely for how good their numbers were
I wonder if part of the reason MIchael Jackson's Off The Wall is kept off the lists is because of the stigma you mentioned about "disco" albums & these list creators not wanting to include anything they consider "disco" They might consider Off The Wall to be a disco album & though it has some great dance songs including Rock With You & Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough it really is a shame if honoring that album is avoided because of it being considered a disco album, not being Bad or Thriller or any other reason. I agree that Off The Wall is a great album & deserves way more recognition than it gets!
Aaliyah self titled was snubbed as well as George Michael's Patience album & Older album & Madonna's Confession On The Dancefloor. I feel like George Michael's Listen W/ Out Prejudice should've been higher. Also Britney Spears , Ariana Grande , and Mariah Carey deserved a place on this list as well as Brandy w/ albums such as Full Moon & Afrodisiac. I think that The Carpenters , Sam Cooke , Frank Sinatra & Donna Summer were snubbed as well because they've had good albums. I usually don't really care for these Best Albums Of All Time List because I see it as just other people's opinions on music but since Honest made a video on it & it was everywhere on my social media I thought I'd share my thoughts.
Yes thank you Donna summer was snubbed and no one is talking about it!!!! The fact that there's no classic disco on the list is nuts, it's been hugely influential
miseducation at n1 is a huuuuuge win despite how shit the rest of the list may be. lauryn changed the game and no matter how late she is to shows or how often she forgets to pay her damn taxes i'll always love this masterpiece like no other.
Im super surprised not one Ariana album was featured in the list. She has two amazing albums that could have easily made the list not only because of their influence but also their thematic cohesion.
yes! she inspired a new genre of music that blends a bunch of different sounds together and making it her own. sabrina carpenter and a bunch of younger/new artists are super influenced by her!
@@funfun-q7b i understand that argument with sweetener and other albums but how do u feel about eternal sunshine? i think it's her best album. cohesive sound while bringing back old school pop and r&b!
@@spacegirlie ethernel sunshine is amazing and i honestly keep listen to it without skiping , i think they didn't include it becuz it is a new album but tbh it deserve to be in the list , but her other albums i don't think they deserve to be there even thank you next in my opinion doesn't deserve even there are a lot of hits on it
What a joke, you can see the list is focusing on commercial and mediocre releases. Where is: Nightwish - Human Nature, Once, etc. Highly reacted by vocal coaches to classical enthusiasts. Even though this is Symphonic Metal band it is highly technical and creative, it is snubbed. Where is Iron Maiden - 7th Son Of A 7th Son or Somewhere In Time, etc. Well composed and impressive melodic guitaring with impressive chord changes. You begin to see a pattern, as Metal is discriminated. Screw the mainstream.
Hi Honest Can we get a Eternal Sunshine review please & a video on George Michael and his impact on the music industry similar to a documentary & a video on Prince & his impact as well. 😁
6:33 omg LOUDER for the people in the back, love Taylor but Fearless is much more interesting of a re-record because of the noticeable change in her voice
Thank you for putting respect on Fearless TV! Her best and most underrated rerecording but agree that 1989 TV shouldn't be that high. I do agree that most of these rankings aren't good
Out of all the R&B albums they ranked Frank Ocean as the highest one! It’s such a boring body of work to me when there are dozens of R&B albums from the 90’s & 80’s that are objectively better than
Putting SOS on here and other super recent, uninspiring or ground breaking albums instead of Teenage Dream, or anything by Mariah, Whitney or Alicia Keys is wild
i dont think the list is that bad but i think some popular artist especially of today (cough cough taylor swift) were added so the younger generation finds the list more relatable even though they had absolutely no business being there
Hi, 80s baby here! I used to follow these lists religiously growing up in the 90s and 00s, until I realised that they're completely randomly chosen, and staff decide they'll choose a handful of contemporary 'great' albums to try and give their lists validity. There are so many brilliant albums from the 90s and 00s that I've never seen on any of these lists coming out now! They were only included because they wanted to be 'cool' back then, and then a few years later they immediately dropped them.
A lot of people mentioning Britney, but honestly, she doesn't have 1 album good enough to be on this list. Blackout is a very good album but top 100 of all time? No. And other overrated albums fraudulently making the list doesn't mean we need to force Britney onto it 😅
All your takes are great, except the Bowie one. Ziggy stardust isn’t just great music but it also help shift the whole music industry. I feel like acknowledging the fact that this album helped pioneer the concept album (Antichrist superstar by Marilyn Manson and The Black Parade by My Chem wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for ziggy stardust) would make you understand it’s importance to music as a whole
Emancipation Of Mimi, Future Nostalgia, Melodrama, Folklore, September Of My Years, To Pimp A Butterfly, Renaissance, Teenage Dream(having 1989 in top 20 over this?), Eternal Sunshine.... The list goes on and on. Like there are so many albums that don't even deserve to be in top200.
As an elder millennial (i turn 39 Sept. 11th, tomorrow) the impact Jagged Little Pill had when it was released was wild, everyone was obsessed. it was the second CD i ever bought (1st being Dookie, Green Day) - i’m honestly surprised it’s not higher edit: just finished video and i am happy with the top pic i remember when that album came out, the hype
This list is so bogus with a bunch of semi-random picks just to get people talking.. And boy did it work.. Yes, Miseducation is great, but they knew it would cause controversy, and possibly get people over to Apple Music.. It steered me over youtube..Everyone assumed Thriller would be number one, and I agree.. it's not his best..Off The Wall is far better..
Call me an old timer, but no album released in the 21st century should be in the top 60. “Off The Wall” is the superior album any day and all day. The impact of “Miseducation” cannot be understated. #1? I don’t think. I honestly think there should be lists segregated by time periods. It’s hard to compare albums of the 60s and 70s to the albums of now. Album culture is different and music culture is different. We’re in an era that discourages creating albums. So, when artists do put out albums, the accolades are often embellished because folks are excited that an artist makes an album. Additionally, this is not as sonically innovative of an era as the 1990s were.
You are a old head to think old music are inherently better than new music.TPAB, MadVillainy, College Dropout,Money Store, The Weekend albums all of them deserve Top 100. Put that Nostalgia in the waste and look at it objectively
@@KEIR0N My taste in music is "Whatever sounds good regardless of genres, gender or time ". Also Are you one of those boomers who are like "Hip Hop is not music" and can only name like Eminem or Lil Nas X as rappers??
