Actually, not understandable at ALL that Atmos and Hi-Res Audio are not available. This is a SUPER frustrating pattern with Apple. Unless I'm missing one, Apple has not yet allowed any third-party integrations access those technologies...AND ITS BEEN A YEAR AND A HALF. The most painful and maddening casualty of this is the Sonos App integration. Sonos tries to be so diplomatic in their responses to not bite the hand but feeds, but you can sense their exasperation when there's only so many ways they can say "its not us. its them."

Fantastic this is now in Teslas. Have wanted this ever since moving from Spotify to Apple Music a while ago as part of the Apple one subscription.

I’m annoyed that lossless isn’t available from the Apple Music app in the Tesla. Right now, I use the car’s Tidal app for lossless - sound is great, but I have to download all uncompressed music when my car is connected to wifi. It’s a really inconvenient setup.

I made the switch last week. There is one important feature in Spotify that Apple doesn't offer. "Liked" songs. I had a playlist of about 1500 liked songs in Spotify. I could add or delete any song from the list by tapping the "heart" button. I could shuffle through the playlist and go weeks without hearing a repeated song. Apple doesn't seem to work that way. I imported my Spotify Liked Songs list into an Apple playlist. Apple divides the large playlist into several pages... You must scroll down to the bottom of the page to change pages. But crucially, if you want to shuffle play the playlist, it will only shuffle the songs on the page you're on. That sucks! And I can't find a workaround. Furthermore, If I want to add a song to the playlist, I can't do it in the car... nor can I remove a song from the playlist. Maybe it's just me, but this makes Apple Music in the Tesla much less desirable.

Great to hear! I was also thinking once I heard that they were also going to eventually introduce Zoom in teslas that perhaps in the future we would be able to FaceTime in the teslas and using their front facing cameras as well.

Yeah the workaround for iTunes uploaded tracks is to try and put it in an album by itself or lump it with at least one track that's matched with apple's version. I find that kicks it into gear, and even if greyed out, will play if you don't tap but let it play up next. weird stuff.

I wish they had an option to sort your songs by recently added instead of alphabetical order. I used to love that on Apple CarPlay so my new songs can show up first

Dolby Atmos would be nice but lossless is pointless in a car where you have tons of road noise anyway

I'm not yet Tesla owner but looking into it these days. Do Spotify or Apple music need Tesla Internet premium plan or not, because I'm not really up to pay again to access services that I'm already paying with my phone. Thanks.

You can’t view your Recently Added songs nor sort songs by Recently Added. You can’t see Liked songs either. Absolutely frustrating

I hope Tesla adds better voice search functionality for AM. As is, it’s pretty limited and weirdly complicated to simply start playing an album, start a radio station etc using the Tesla voice controls

It’s weird you cannot see iTunes Match content - I have it in the car and that’s a big deal for me. Unfortunately the quality is far worse than Tidal (which I’d subscribed for only because of Tesla integration 😂).

Can someone help? I just purchased my Tesla today and tried to look for the Apple Music icon and can’t find it anywhere! When I picked up the Tesla they said it had the latest update but I still can’t find the app icon! Is it because the update is rolling out in waves or something? Bluetooth from the phone is sadly, still better... the audio quality from the phone is higher and you don't need to pay for premium connectivity to use it

Apple Music is outstanding. And if you are using it properly even better. Of course neither service is perfect & options ultimately benefit the consumer. I think more & more updates to Apple Music are coming in 23

A few extra questions: 1. Does the app support multiple profiles like Spotify? 2. Can you remote control the song from your phone like Spotify connect? 3. Lyrics support? I’m on the FSD beta so we don’t have the update yet, but should be getting it soon.

I noticed when you use the voice command to play something in Apple Music it only displays the title(s) on the screen but does not actually start playing the song until you select it whereas Slacker will start playing immediately.

Have you noticed in your library of music on Apple Music that they will play songs not on your list. I was listening to AM and it started to play a song I never downloaded or heard of. Any chance you know how to fix that bug? Thanks for any info.

just one question, can you do that while driving. on apple carplay the one thing that piss me off, is that soemtimes i feel like listening to the top tittle of the artist i just listened to. can i clic on it's name while i'm driving so it takes me to it's page and then i play it quickly ? apple carplay tries to be safe but i end up taking my phone to do that so not safe

Any idea what the '+' icon does in the mini music player on the lower left side? Does that 'add' the song to your library? or what?

just installed the update. nice addition to the Tesla music player. has anyone notice that explicit content is blocked tough? I can't find a way to enable those songs.

Is Autoplay supported? If so, can you toggle it off? And can you see upcoming songs? Are lyrics supported? What about Apple Music Sing? Also did Apple create this app or Tesla?

How do I set up a “radio station” of Apple Music on the Tesla? Easy to do on my iPad, but not evident on the Tesla. For example, I’m a fan of the Hi-Los. After a list of their songs and albums, the .Tesla screen shows “similar music” (sic). That’s what I want. Artists including Four Freshmen, NY Voices, and other groups. It is what I use on my iPad.

Can you play your entire library on shuffle? It seems to only let me play a list of songs on shuffle based on the pages

but can you use a usb cable from your iphone and play lossless audio this way? cause that't fine with me. not sure why people need wireless carplay etc. bluetooth doesn't sound as good - just give me the higher quality audio. thanks!

Hey you don’t need iTunes Match. I learned Apple Music has its own iTunes Match built inside of it so no need for the match subscription

Another downside I just noticed is that it only plays your first 100 songs. All your songs are listed A-Z and it’s in sections. Section 1 is the first 100 and section 2 is another 100 and so forth. So as of right now The Apple Music app is very buggy. I’ll go back to using Bluetooth till they fix all these dumb bugs.

Yea im going to have to disagree on the Spotify app not as flushed capabilities wise. Apple Music doesn’t show the queue on the side when you’re in a playlist on the model S/X. And I guess no lossless or hi res lossless which is a serious bummer. Maybe with atmos launch soon™ But I will say this has me contemplating switching to Apple Music full time. Also I shouldn’t have to download to listen to hi res 😢

Looked so seamless… too bad it didn’t work for me. I keep getting an “access denied” msg at the bottom left hand corner. Tesla told me to reset screen and phone… didn’t work

With Spotify you could just say “play Queen” and music would just play. With Apple when you say the same thing you get presented with a choice of songs, albums ect. Only option to do this safely is pull the car over and decide and make selection. Not ideal when you’re on the move

I found this review ("walkthrough") of Apple Music in Tesla vehicles to be a bit fawning, honestly. More importantly, it omits mention of at least one apparent *major* miss in Tesla's instantiation of Apple Music. Specifically, I can't find any way to "Browse by Genre," something that all other desktop and mobile instantiations of Apple Music allow. Moreover, other streaming services in the Tesla allow users to do that. These include TIDAL music, Tesla's legacy installation of Live2Live (formerly Slacker), and TuneIn. Also, while the reviewer discusses another major "miss"...namely, that Apple Music in the Tesla doesn't appear to properly allow one to actually listen to one's Apple Music (and legacy iTunes) Library in the vehicle...he seems like he's trying to paint it over. That miss by Apple/Tesla is actually a huge issue that needs to be fixed if they really want people to use Apple Music. My own take based on years of owning a Tesla is that the TIDAL and other streaming services in the Tesla are still superior to the recent addition of Apple Music and that Tesla really needs to fix the problems or take-up of the service will be limited. I already canceled the three-month free Apple Music trial I received as part of a Mac purchase because of the flawed Tesla instantiation and decided to stick with TIDAL. There's no value-added from paying for Apple Music due to the two major misses I discuss above, one of which appears to have been totally missed by the reviewer.

AM on Tesla Atom is so slow, it's almost unusable. I stay in Bluetooth because of this. You can clearly see it at the 2:16 mark, it takes 4.5 sec to start the title.

First of all: I am pleased that Apple Music is now directly supported. Unfortunately, there is no native Apple Music client but you use the Web API and thus only the sound drivers configured for the web. You could already use Apple Music in the web browser before the update, which was known to have only worked in "P" mode. The basic features have thus remained the same: By using the Web API restrictions. (such as no support for smart playlists, no rating of the songs or managing the library possible, no complete playback due to lack of buffering...) and generally a quite laggy workflow/UI (after entering the car, it usually does not continue playing directly, but you have to select new songs again. Sound Quality: MusicKit.PlaybackBitrate.HIGH 16 The bit rate is 256 kbps. MusicKit.PlaybackBitrate.STANDARD 2 The bit rate is 64 kbps. (No Lossless, no Dolby Atmos) Compared to Bluetooth, the Bluetooth connection performs better overall with a higher dynamic (you notice especially in the bass and midrange) than the client IF you use lossless. The sound quality is generally at 256 kbps but still quite good, similar to Spotify but worse than Tidal. However, it is much more convenient to use Apple Music via screen, so that I only use Bluetooth for podcasts currently. I hope that Lossless and Dolby Atmos will be supported in the future. However, this depends primarily on Apple, which has full control over the web client and the API used - and the Tesla programmers only access it. But it is a first step in the right direction and since there are already Atmos rumours, I think it will be implemented soon.
