still life but that gives much more sense than one imagines. You embody the life of what we already believe lost on a canvas that we hope to have as an immortal memory. Thank you and congratulations.

The painting actually started after the 8th min...but it already seemed complete by that time... The details you had put in the painting is just brilliant...😁😍 Can you make a tutorial for basics of detailing...would be of great help...🙏🏾
@josvanr
@josvanr 3 года назад
Thnx for your input! Hmmm the basics of detailing. I shall have to think over if I know at all how I do that... Maybe generally I can say that I like to keep things soft, and then add a sharp contrast here and there, and maybe some texture, where necessary. If I get around to making a new tutorial, I'll keep in mind addressing these issues. Thnx :)

Beautiful realism! I know it's not the brush that makes the painting, however, as a confirmed brush hoarder I curious as to your preferred brand/type of paintbrush.
@josvanr
@josvanr 6 лет назад
Thnx ! There are several types I use frequently: The regular hog bristles from rosemarys (especially nr2 filbert), then some sable liner brushes (can be made pointy or flat), and I use a lot of round vincent ox hair brushes. The hog brushes I regularly make flatter by cutting away hairs from the sides, to get a brush that holds less paint and exerts less pressure...

Hello! Thnx... I use a webcam to do all movies. I use linux software to record in real speed. It is 'security' software called 'motion'. This starts recording as soon as something moves in front of the camera and produces a number of movie files. Then I glue all these files together and make a time lapse from that. For this I use 'ffmeg'....

Time lapses do not serve a purpose when they only show the artist showing off their work without explaining their process is useless at least for me as a beginner.
@josvanr
@josvanr 6 лет назад
Hlloo. I also think there is a lot to learn. I dont have the time to make elaborate tutorials. Alzo my narratioon voot zount foonny. For beginners maybe it is difficult. But you can eg see some of what the artist is thinking. Which color is used to start? And then, .. does the artist continue from there to cover the entire object, or stop and start again with a different color in a different place? Which parts are smoothed/smudged and which are not, and at what time? Are the edges left rough, or made sharp, and when does that happen? Which details are put in right away, and which are put off... etc.. You have to look carefully. Myself I always look at other artists movies in this way. Especially the ones by Duane Keiser.... Ok Good luck !

I love the time lapse videos. If you're a beginner & need more information there are plenty of the step-by-step tutorials with complete instructions. I usually find those boring, but then I'm not a beginner. As for the artist, great job on this painting; the apple looks so real. I'm about to search for more of your videos. Thank you for sharing.
@muhlenstedt
@muhlenstedt 6 лет назад
I like to watch how the painting develops, just that I am getting older and my visual perception is getting slower, therefore I would appreciate if the time lapse could be a bit slower, perhaps there are other viewers with the same issue. Anyway I do not want this sounds as critic.Thank you very much for showing the process.Your work is simple fantastic.

You are not born in the wrong century - the music you so much like was not for the peasants of that age but only for the tribes of arrogance and decay - for the rich and so-called aristocrats - no you live in the right age you can listen to the music as much as you like and in a quality superior to that of that age - your problem is you have just not grown in to the new age - live and learn to enjoy the new, life is short and it gets shorter the more you hang around in the past. You have a talent I do admire share in detail it's your heritage to the world - thank you.

How do you create and prepare your canvases? Is that also explained in your tutorials? Thanks
@josvanr
@josvanr 6 лет назад
Hello, no it is not covered at length. But there is not much to say: I use Lefranc & Bourgeois gesso. This has some tooth to it and prevents the paint from sliding too much. I also thin the gesso a lot, maybe 1 part gesso to 2 parts water. This way there is no brush marks in the gesso. Lately I use a paint roller to apply the gesso. Because of the thin consistency, the gesso applies as thin blobs this way. The result is a pretty smooth surface, no sanding needed. (Unles there is a grain of sand eg). Good luck !
@willw6196
@willw6196 6 лет назад
@@josvanr wow, thanks for the reply! And one more question, if I may! In this video, and in many others, is it a canvas panel you are using? Would you be willing to give the brand and type of canvas you usually use? I've seen wooden panels in various thicknesses, coated with gesso made by Ampersand, for instance. Do you use types like that? I've also seen flat canvas panels as well.. thanks for your time to answer anything sir. Really appreciate your work. I've bought one of your tutorials in the past and follow your work.
@josvanr
@josvanr 6 лет назад
Glad to help. I use different types, mainly water resistant fiber board ('tempered masonite') or just thick cardboard. The cardboard is the dense compressed type, not the wavy kind, if you know what I mean. Usually I dont use canvas....
@willw6196
@willw6196 6 лет назад
@@josvanr Wow! Thanks for that! Very great to know. I've prepared some on a few different surfaces, experimenting. You can practically put gesso on almost anything. But the way you prepare your surfaces make them appear so uniquely fresh and beautiful. I'm eager to create my own now. I know the cardboard you speak of, btw. I believe those already prepared canvas panels use the same kind of board. Thanks again for sharing!!
