Apple Rose Pie Recipe - Desserts with Violetta
This striking Apple Rose Pie Recipe is all about the apples, and it is fairly simple to make (just a little bit time consuming). This apple rose pie recipe is my variation of the classic French apple rose tart. It begins with a crisp, buttery, and sweet pie crust. Next comes a delicious layer of applesauce almond meal filling that is topped with artfully arranged paper-thin apple slices in the shape of a rose, making this Apple Rose Pie a true showstopper! Your loved ones and guests are guaranteed to be delighted!

INGREDIENTS:
Pie Crust:
- 200g (1 ⅗ cup) flour
- 50g (¼ cup) sugar
- ⅛ tsp salt
- 75g (~5 Tbsp) cold butter, cut in tiny cubes
- 50ml (~¼ cup) cold water, almost iced
Applesauce Filling:
- 450g (~1 ¾ cup) unsweetened applesauce (excess juice drained)
- 2 Tbsp powdered sugar
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- 3 Tbsp almond meal or almond flour (optional, but gives an extra flavor and texture)
Apple Layer:
- 6 medium size sweet crispy red apples (~850g)
- Juice of 1 lemon
- 3 Tbsp unsalted butter
- 55g (~¼ cup) brown sugar (can use white sugar, but I prefer brown for a more “caramel” flavor)
- ½ tsp cinnamon
Additional Ingredients (for sealing the crust and for dusting):
- 2 Tbsp honey, syrup, or apricot jam
- 2 Tbsp rum, brandy, cognac or water
- 1 Tbsp powdered sugar
PAN SIZE: Preferably, a classical 9 inch (23 cm) in diameter pie plate (can also use a tart tin or a round pan with detachable sides)
