For nothing, I don't need it, I have everything I need with the Quest 3, and as a tool, I can do a lot more than Vision Pro, because I can do everything that Vision Pro does, plus infinite amount of things that Vision Pro can't do. Quest 3 it's a huge spectrum of things to use it for, not just a niche of things that Apple decided to charge insane amount of money for a very few things that everybody in VR/AR community knows and are already experiencing since about 10 years.

No, it is not. It doesn't tell you the FOV and lense performance, which are CRITICAL for VR/MR experience.

Apple did not publish the FOV but I can say it's impressively wide, though if you're walking around I'd say what's buy your feet is a bit of a blind spot unless you look all the way down. The lens performance is spectacular and this is the best pass-through performance I've experienced vs Meta Quest Pro and 3 etc@@Leed831100

I'm loving the look of the virtual desktop. I'm so curious how people will use the headset outside of its marketed usecases, ie for more demanding multitasking workflows, like 4K video editing and 3D modeling.

Honestly can't see this being use for actual work that you have to do continuously for hours. I can see this for entertainment, but a 600 brick strapped on to my head does not seem combortable 2 hours in. If we are talking local video editing with the device itself? A hot metal brick sounds even less pleasant

Don't belive so. After a while the weight of it starts to bother so much that a 2h movie is unbearable. It is and always will be a screen attached to your face. Probably the future will bring variants so light that you will forget about them..like headphones today.

Such an awesome channel for tech. And this most important review is shot in weird aspect ratio, zooming in cut off video below but head stays in frame. Half of time Vision Pro and other stuff was cut off while watching this in iPhone 😮.. got annoying zooming in and out

Apple has not published the FOV. Sorry. The lenses automatically adjust when putting on the headset. You long press the digital crown. You can also swap in Zeiss inserts if you have a prescription or need readers

Are the 'Immersive Videos'/'Spatial Videos' simply static stereoscopic recordings? Or do they include 3D depth information, allowing you to move around inside the scene and look at things from different angles?

Spatial video format is just stereo video, yeah. There’s a setting that blurs the edges more and less as you please if I’m not mistaken but, the video itself is just stereo.

You cannot look around things from different angles, but this effect is simulated by having parallax at the edges. Meaning when you lean close, more of the video’s edge is revealed, akin to getting close to a window.

That's one of the still-to-solve problems of immersive 3D video. You can look around, i.e. change the direction in which you look. But as soon as you move your head's position a tiny bit, the effect is ruined, since you can't change perspective within the video. You always view it from the position where the camera was, when it was recorded. It feeld like the video is moving with you, and this can make you feel a little sick. On my Meta Headset, I once had an experimental app that alowed you to change not only direction, but also perspective within 3D photos. That was very cool and it relly immersed you within it, even if you could move only a view inches. But it needed a special file format and very expensive, experimentsl gear to record, so nothing you could do yourself. And only photos, bot video. If something like this would be possible vor video in the future, it would be great.

Quest “Pro” was not pro at all. Didn’t even have a depth sensor. Video pass through was horrible. The quest 3 is the far superior product in every sense and even that really isn’t up to my standards for paying money for one. I’ll personally be waiting a few more years for one of these headsets

@@WigganNuG The depth sensor is used for scanning the environment and keeping track of 3d space. It is not used in the passthrough camera. You can find this information online if you knew how to properly research, but test it yourself. Activate the passthrough on your Quest 3 then cover the depth sensor. Nothing changes. Be wary of spouting prematurely developed opinions, lest you make yourself look a fool

The cooking was a good use case in anoother channel., if the resolution gets there. My daughter could benefit from it, she needs a reading aid, and you could add a zoom screen there for reading etc. An electronic device repair technician could use it in a same way, the glasses could be hooked up in to a microscope and instead of looking through a lens or using a real screen, they could have a floating screen, and a diagram of components or circuits, voltage test results, inventory of available replacements parts on the side. Lego fans could have the instructions in AR (they already have some tablet based AR stuff), lego parts catalog, some inventory management system, highlighting a needed part in the parts pile.

I would say the screen recordings look darker than what you see through the displays. You can't see the pixels and with foveated rendering the text or elements are sharp that you're looking and it responds in real time as you look around

I just checked. You get a warning that your hands may not be seen and you don't see them. But amazingly hand tracking still works and i can see the interface etc.

It has IR Illuminators that allow the cameras to see in the dark, although you can’t. Adding even more forward IR illuminators and a Night Vision Mode would be cool though.

We will ALWAYS have full dive larger HMD's ; those are going nowhere for very obvious reasons. The AR Tony Stark Glasses with Jarvis built in is what you're talking about. Different use cases but yes, you will have wider adoption for those devices and its where ALL the big players North Star is headed for sure.

I don't believe so. You can use a PS5 or Xbox controller with the Vision Pro for playing Apple Arcade games, as well as Steam games through Mac etc

OMG>.. you're SOOOO WRONG... controller SUCK BALLS if you're trying to use that sucky laser pointer!! TERRIBLE UI choice by meta TERRIBLE. Hand tracking on META SUCKS compared to the AVP because of the power and obvious latency issues. Playing games is a different story OBVIOUSLY!

Interesting that Meta never considered using an external tethered battery pack that might have shaved another ~300g off the weight of their Quest HMDs? Did Meta determine that a tethered battery was more of a nuisance than adding more weight to the headset?

I don't see how a tethered battery is that big of an issue, sure it's not "elegant" but the advantage is immense, it takes off some of the weight, and more importantly it increases device longevity, because battery often fails first and because it's not on device it can be easily replaced and it doesn't affect the value of the device, just because of this advantage alone of increased repairability i strongly welcome tethered batteries, i hope they'll become the norm, especially on something that costs 3500 dollars, imagine it losing so much of its value just because of the battery.

Something tells me you have never tried the Quest 3... Not saying it's the same, but I imagine you'll notice it being pretty damn good for the price. A lot of the experiences you were having on the Vision Pro are available on the Quest 3. To be clear, I'm not saying the Quest 3 does it better or doesn't... I'm simply saying it does. I feel as if there is a lack of knowledge about that and it really should be mentioned. Another example, I'm responding to this from inside my Quest 3... While using it as a multi-monitor setup on my PC.

Kind of like in 2001 Circuit City advertised a 42 inch plasma for $11,200. While a 55-inch Samsung can now be bought for $369 from Best Buy. Starting at $3500 hopefully we see it get down to mainstream adoption prices faster than a Plasma TV did.

I want to use mouse and keyboard, don't need the movement controls, don't need pinching or anything. I want a big, wide virtual monitor for work and a virtual cinema screen for entertainment. Probably someone finally figures it out and makes this kind of device.

You simply mean, Apple plans to make a cheaper version, which is a "no duh" sort of statement, of course Apple plans to make many MUCH cheaper versions. But we have no idea when that next iteration will be. A year from now? Five years from now? We don't know, because it's NOT on the horizon.

The tech looks amazing but the WWW in general has hit such race to the bottom lows this can't be ignored. Apple's next quantum leap should to be a who new way of interfacing with the web.

Then why did you purchase a Varjo XR-3 headset for twice the cost? Oh, you didn't? Is it because that, too, is too expensive for what it is? The Apple Vision Pro isn't going against the Meta Quest 3 or Pro: it's going up against the Varjo XR-3 (and recently announced XR-4) for cheaper and a flat rate (The XR-3 has a yearly usage fee. The XR-4 will drop it; you can probably guess why).

no not power, unable to plug anything else into the headset… through an hdmi’s or usb connector. meaning can’t use it for anything other than Mac related content.

If I were Apple, definitely a great time to promote Apple TV+ and Apple Music to Vision Pro users. The VR/XR space is still small enough that Apple could become a major player and even lead it in only a couple product generations. The amount of interest from the VR crowd, I haven't seen since Oculus first started. And the interests from regular folks not usually into VR/XR has been surprising, they're getting ordinary folks interested in XR. Most probably can't afford it, but they're setting the ground works for that wide reach version. When Facebook bought Oculus in 2014, it was kind of exciting because the amount of money they could inject into it might create something amazing. Oculus under Meta has been boring the past 5 yrs.

No, No only Vision Pro allow you to work with your laptop and use it as a display, Quest 3 allow you to install (free) the app Horizon Workrooms where you have many presentation tools, PLUS a Remote Desktop feature where you connect any Windows PC or Laptop to your device (also wireless, real wireless, not wires going to external battery ether) and watch whatever you have in your monitor in your virtual displays in the app, and also can use it as if you have up to 3 displays in front of you and move windows around. all that for just $499 lol!, and lighter and more comfortable, oh and yes, also comes with 2 controllers, that allow you to do a lot more on any app, if you don't want to use your hands also of course. For example one of the controllers can be user as a pen and you hold it has a pen and draw over a virtual board in the same app(That's just the cost of Apple Care for the Vision Pro). BTW, more FOV on Quest 3 110 degrees instead of about 98 on the Vision pro, and no chromatic aberrations nor distortions at the edges, like some reviews are reporting that are present in the Apple Vision Pro, that's really insane. Oh and BTW, did you know that there is even a FREE app to install on Quest 3 to record stereo videos also with the passthru cameras also, so there you have it, your "spacial videos" hahaha!

Sorry but, What do you mean with "Better" ? . Do you know the amount of HANDS that there are out there in the World? ... Picture this, you are in a plane working or watching something in the Vision Pro, and beside you there is this amazing 8 years old kid, jumping and moving around, and he decide to put his hands near your lower field of vision, near your pants may be, without touching you, may be he is playing and yes, those hands can move, pinch, select, scroll, anything that you are targeting with your eyes at that moments, yes .. because the interface it's controlled JUST BY HANDS. @aefox i'm not sure how vision pro handles hand interference as you put it, it might handle it well for all we know, no review complained about this issue, and i'm sure apple engineered a way to avoid this problem, as for display artifacts, most people who used vision pro praised the display and said that it is exceptional, the verge review was the first to point out these issues and we don't really know how bad they are, even the verge said that the display is great in spite of those artifacts and they didn't seem to think of it as a huge problem, they just said it's worse than real life, but they also said it's the best in its category so it's safe to say that those problems aren't that big of a deal and maybe even the quest 3 have them worse but it was just held to a lower standard than the vision pro that's why people don't talk about them, as for the price, sure it's very expensive, not much to say about that, hopefully their next iterations are more affordable, and i think they will be. For the wired battery i actually like it this way, the battery is a component prone to degradation and having it come separately allows for battery replacement without compromising the value of the device, it's also easily swappable, which makes you save time on charging the device if you have a spare batteey, i can also imagine battery accessories that are big and enable long battery life.

@aefox tbh my biggest gripe is the lack of true vr games, are they not supported at all or should we expect them with time? The main reason why i didn't get into macs is the lack of games, as a gamer i won't buy a device that doesn't support the games i care about on it, and no matter how good the vision pro is, i won't be swayed by it if it doesn't have gaming on its focus.

You said they aren't needed because of hand and eye tracking, but for games they are, unless you're talking about very simple games where you don't have to move around. Using just your hands to move around will never come close to being as good and natural as using sticks.

Connect with your Mac, lol. I'm into computers for play and work, and I don't know anyone with a Mac that is a serious computer user for work or gaming. The Mac is just too expensive for a work laptop and too slow for gaming. I have had 3 VR headsets and currently have 2 that I use, the Apple Vision Pro is just too expensive, as much a gaming PC and considerable more than a high level VR head set.

Their is something like the Apple Vision Pro it's called the Meta Quest 3 as it also does Mixed Reality and has a huge library of Mixed Reality games and Apps the only downgrade is the screen resolution and I can also use it with my Intel based Macbook Pro as it works as an amazing monitor but I can't use my Intel based Macbook Pro with the Vision Pro and other people other than the headset wearer can also controll the headset as I just watch a review and another people that was not wearing the headset was controllering it by pinching so that's $3500 for a device that someone else controller if I am using it around them 😂😂😂😂

Given how many famous products had humble beginnings (well... ALL of them), for a Netflix guy to call the market "subscale" is quite... idiotic, frankly. Someone who obviously never worked at a startup, that's for sure. I also don't understand why they didn't just give it a USB-C connection WITHOUT the battery. That way I could easily attach a higher-capacity battery without having to ALSO carry around the ORIGINAL battery. Hopefully a cable will come out that has the Vision Pro connector on 1 end and a regular USB-C male end on the other end. This is really reflective of the "control freak"-ness of Apple, here. I'm sure they didn't want to even risk someone buying a battery that couldn't deliver the wattage it required...
