I managed to pick up the last one in a couple of thousand k range in store (in Australia) a day after launch. It replaces an SE. I have big wrists so it suits me very well. So far I’ve used it for snorkelling and a small bit of scuba, paddling and a daily run. First time I’ve not worried about longevity, and even able to see the screen well in the brightest of sun. For me it’s a definite and worthwhile upgrade. The power saving mode is the icing on the cake.
I am waiting for mine. Back Order. I kept my 6 and passing it down. I am glad a man over 6ft and over 200 did a review. 6'5" and 280 here the 6 felt real tiny on me. Battery and durability with size sold me.
Thank you for the straight forward non-techie opinion piece. Most of us have heard the detailed functionality reports but are only now hearing reasoned reports from those who are actually buying this watch. I’m using comments such as yours to help me decide whether I might buy this watch. I wanted very much to upgrade to the iWatch 8, but was disappointed to hear that it wasn’t such a major upgrade from my series 5, which functions well for my needs. After real people started reporting on the Ultra, I realized that it might be the one I might want.
Yeah I agree the second waive of reviews from people that have used and owned the watch for a couple weeks or a month are always my favorite ones to watch. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment 🙏🏾🤎
Mad respect, I normally don't comment on videos, but the editing done on this video is incredible! The most stunning video I've seen for quite some time!
Love that you have 9k subscribers but already 3k likes! You have a great voice and video style. Glad I am in the first 10K because you are going to have 1M soon 😊🤘
Good review! I also upgraded to the Ultra and I have no regrets. Love it. I welcome the improved battery life, but I am not wowed by it. I don’t have large wrists and I think it’s still fine. After an hour of wearing it I was used to it. Now my old watch seems too small!
Truthfully I came from a series 5 to ultra and the only reason I never upgraded was due to battery. The hardware upgrade from series 5 to ultra have been minimal.
Yeah I agree yearly upgrades on the watch rarely have me reaching for my wallet. I would’ve kept my series 6 until it fell apart if it weren’t for the ultra. Thanks for the comment 🙏🏾
The 7s had an setting where despite the brightness, it’ll adjust based on the lighting around it. Is this the same case? Or will it stay at the brightness u choose
Hi , I have been following your channel for a long time...! And it helps me a lot... I have a question: in the Apple Watch Ultra the digital crown moving heavily !! And he is also rough is this normal ? i wait for your answer … merci
Thanks for being apart of the RU-vid fam. The Digital Crown is really fluid and easy to use, I have preferred this crown design vs. the regular Apple Watch.
One of the best and honest reviews I’ve watched. Not trying to get super technical, just a regular guy and what he thinks about the new Ultra. Thanks for the review.
I’m a current Garmin Fenix 7 user and longtime Garmin Fenix series user. I’d say as a runner and athlete I’m somewhere in the mid tier of users. Having served in the military and in a current career that can get rough at times I prefer something durable. I’m not a ultra marathon runner but I do longer runs than most, hike often, do HIIT workouts, and strength training. It’s only been Garmin for me for years. Every time I thought a version of the Apple Watch was it I’d end up returning it and going back to the Garmin brand. I now have an Apple Watch Ultra and love it. It’s bigger, longer battery, more rugged if not rugged looking and has many features I’d use. I believe I’ll stick with it for now. Although for some workouts I’ll still use my Garmin. But I think Apple is on to something with grabbing the attention of more intense fitness people that are more likely to buy a Garmin or something similar. Just my opinion and experience.
Thanks for joining the conversation, I wondered how people with garmins feel about the ultra. Garmin makes nice watches and I didn’t realize that until I did some research before buying the Ultra but I think the apple has a higher ceiling for sure being integrated with your phone more intimately. I glad to know it is working out for you, thanks for the comment!
Love the review bro! I just got mine a week and a half ago. Love that it feels like a real watch when it comes to the size! I’m 6’4 so I can relate to wanting something that looks “normal” on me!
I love my Ultra and I too have a large collection of Apple Watch Bands. My Nike bands fit it perfectly without any gaps at all. I currently am wearing the new Bright Crimson/Gym Red band and it looks great with the accent colors on the Ultra. I originally bought the Orange Alpine, but I don’t like the way it fits. Totally agree with you on the trade-in value and find it very insulting that Apple or even BestBuy gives you pocket change compared to the hundreds that I paid for it . I don’t even have any scratches or marks on any of my watches ! Looking forward to more of your videos…yep…I subscribed 😁
Just bought AWU1 for $600 on swappa. Coming from a Series 6 and looking forward to the better battery life and durability. I’ve used a bumper case with tempered glass for the longest and have broken many of them. Ready to move on from aluminum and basic glass. I appreciate your smooth, well shot vids. Happy to be a new subscriber
I'm tryna get like you mah boy! The b roll shots look amazing. Yeah as someone who needed something more rugged I like this. My stainless steel is a bit banged up. I have apple care but never needed it. Great review man!
Appreciate you bro 🙏🏾 my stainless steel watches in the past always got scratched up but i polished it every so often to buff them out and I’ve never gotten apple care on my watches lol thanks for coming through 🫡👊🏾
Great review and Ive been debating on which watch(Series 8 or ultra) to get since they came out. I currently have the series 3 and got it when it first came out. I wanted to see was it any negatives that would concern me after you had it and not off initial reviews. After watching this I think I'm gone go with the ultra since I rarely update my watch anyway. Hopefully is not to far on backorder when I go this week.
I don’t have one thinking about grabbing one I have a series 5 I just recently Cracked the screen a bit 😕 and the battery is really bad and I have so many times just wished I could have a keyboard to type messages and have a cellular watch so I don’t have to bring my phone to the gym and just love the big size of the watch but questioning if it’s worth the 800 price tag to me. I’ve also heard some people say the dial is rubbing against their skin and find it annoying wondering if any of y’all are having that problem?
It's good, I am happy to report that I have zero nicks or scratches and granted I am pretty careful but so far so good. My stainless steel series 6 was really prone to scratches and I would have to polish it every so often so I am glad those days are behind me. Thanks for the comment 🙏🏾
I’m a regular guy, medium wrist, I got it because I like bigger watches and I really liked that this was different than the other apple watches. I’m sure more bands will come out, there are some cheap knock offs on eBay already that look pretty dope. I ordered a knock off trail loop and the official midnight ocean from apple
Thanks for the great video. I have to say I am happy with mine. Can you please tell us the name of the watch face you show at 1:25 and 7:57? I've searched all the face options but I couldn't find that one. Closest was the CALIFORNIA but not the same font and had bars by the numbers
Thanks 🙏🏾 you know whats crazy is that watch face was restored from my previous apple watch backup and I can’t find it in the options either smh I wonder if they took it out in the new version of watchos
I was on the same exact upgrade path. Original, 3, and currently on 6. And not sure if ultra or 8 are worth getting yet or wait for Ultra 2 or 9 at this point...
Yeah I wonder if any other companies offer services for that. I doubt it's an easy process if it can even be done. But battery replacement would be nice
How do you only have 7k subscribers? This video is amazing and helped cement my purchase! Glad I got in early, looking forward to see where you go from here!
Hi. Love your video. Just got mind today. Here in Malaysia we have to pre-order. The sale of Ultra is still unknown here. I was from Series 6. Just love it. Already starting planning to up my walking game to a beginner's hiking this week end.
Ultra is the Apple Watch I've been waiting for since day 1. Titanium makes it look closer to a real watch and less like a gadget. The battery is incredible and I love the orange hints. I have the midnight ocean band and I love it. My fav band and watch to date. I do agree with you though, I don't know if I'm willing to shell out 800 bucks every year. It's easier with the 300 dollars watches, but 800? man... Software advancement is the way to go.
@@johnt6022 I get close to 4 days with mine. Granted I don’t use it extensively. But yes, I’m charging every 3-4 days. Everyday from start to finish of me wearing it is about 25-30% battery for me each day. Low power mode over night while I’m not wearing. Not to mention there’s a significant low power mode update on its way promising 60 hours…
@@andrewshively6475 but you're essentially get more battery life from what's advertised as well as more than the update for the 60 hours. You do have the ultra right? What functions do you use during the day (. how many notifications, what features do you disable etc)
@@johnt6022 yes I have the ultra. And I mainly use it just as that. A clock with notifications and occasional Siri requests throughout the day. Nothing is turned off. I don’t start workouts or play games or really open any apps. No sleep tracking. I don’t wear it overnight. No always on display. That’s a waste of battery. I do a couple ECG’s a day as well. Like I said I don’t use it extensively and need to learn how to use it more, but for my use case, 3 days easy.
Great video, first time watching. I’m switching from a Garmin that I use for Triathlons and hiking. I moved away from Apple Watches years ago because of their limitations. I’m back
Awesome video bro just found your channel on my RU-vid homepage liking the content so far keep up the great work, nice detail explaination of this video. God Bless
I’m a lady and I bought the ultra and it’s perfect and not to big I enjoy the larger face and style! It’s the crystal clear screen, sounds and functionality
Nice I am glad to hear that it is working out for some ladies, a lot of women are saying it is too big, Thank you for the comment and congrats on your ultra! 🙏🏾
I feel like the Ultra will definitely last many, many years to come. Like you said, they’re going to have to make their advancements with software (and we’ll get like 4-5 years of software updates), because what else could they possibly add to a watch besides a camera? I feel like we’re nearing peak smartphone/smartwatch.
Thanks for perspective. I picked up the Apple Watch Ultra and I have tiny wrists! Ha! I had the same concerns. About dressing it up - and I would highly recommend the Hermes single tour band in orange - it completely elevates the Apple Watch look on your wrist. Super fresh!
I have a big wrist, too. It’s been difficult finding comfortable bands. I’d like to see a video showcasing options. Great review; thank you for posting.
Great video. I went ahead and bought the series 8 45mm with gps only. Its my first apple watch so I didn't want to spend crazy if I didn't like it. But I do like it and find myself using it a lot more than I thought. I don't have any use for the cellular version since I keep my phone with me everywhere I go but in the future, maybe 3 or 4 years down the line I might consider the new version of the ultra at that time if its still around.
Stellar breakdown, sir! I feel my wrists are too small for the Ultra, but may stop by Apple to try it and S8 on. I really need to research the diff between the two to learn the pros/cons. Also need to learn the diff between GPS/Cellular models. Cheers!
Great Video, Love the fact your not screaming at me or jumping all over the place. This is the second video that has the same band as me and you both say it's a little awkward to put on and i'm like it's the easiest apple band I ever used. I don't know if I have it backwards or its the video reversing things but it looks to me like you have the band on backwards. My loop things are at the bottom of the watch. I slide my wrist through snug it up by pulling it towards me push the clip through. Its really easy.
lol yeah I don't have it in me to scream. But yeah you're right that's the best way to wear it for sure. Makes it easier to put on for sure. Thanks for watching! 🙏🏾
@@FilmedbyFresh I watched your video on ultra watch bands. I get it now, it wouldn't matter how you have the band hooked up. A massive hand going through small hole would definitely be awkward lol. I'm really liking your channel from the filming & editing to the the hmm what's it called ?talking for lack of a better word top quality man.
My boy fresh, always coming with that pressure bro!! 🔥 video, the ultra definitely on list to get this year! Coming from the series 3 this will definitely be a big upgrade!! That pressure coming bro! Stay blessed!
I am the first here and love the way you present stuff. So calm, great astethics, strong focus on elegance and practical aspects of using the watch on a daily basis. Not so much focus on functionalities. There are many complains regarding the bands. I am wondering why Apple missed it. Subscribed and waiting for more videos from you. Also - great watch faces presented in the video. Very stylish. And yes. It is a piece of jewelery and kind of a status symbol too.
Thanks for joining the RU-vid fam! I am on the hunt for more bands but that ocean band is looking like it may be my next purchase. I’m glad you like the content 🙏🏾
I bought mine because I work construction and figured the more rugged body would be better. Had series 3 stainless that I picked up cheap 4-5 years ago so lasted me pretty good. Sapphire crystal alone makes a huge difference.
I’ve ordered my ultra but it won’t be delivered for another month. Apple sold me at “endurance athlete.” I ride long miles on my bike and cracked the screen of my Apple Watch 4 trying to juggle keeping it charged while on a ride. The action button is great too because now I won’t have to use my nose to start a workout when I have gloves on. Before purchasing, I tried it on at the Apple store and it’s huge on my dainty lil’ lady wrists. I’ve always had the smallest Watch available but I’m looking forward to the bigger size. Got the orange band so this Watch will definitely be a “statement” for me.
congrats it sounds like the ultra will be a good fit for your activity. No more nose presses is gonna be huge for quality of life lol thanks for watching 🙏🏾
Completely agree on the band options. The Ultra is great so far but it is, as you say, jewelry too and it could look fantastic with better band options.
Love your video. I totally understand about the bands. I collect Apple Watch bands and the whole matching the bands to the watch is really important to me.👍
I loved this video. First time here and I subbed. Great job!! My ultra came in last week. Wanted to wait for my iPhone Pro Max to set up but since that isn't coming anytime soon I could not wait. Set it up last night using my current iPhone 12 Pro Max and loving it so far. I'm 6'1", fits my wrist better than my Series 6 44mm. Loving it so far.
Thanks for the sub! you held out a whole week lol you are better than me. I am glad the Ultra is working out for so many people, gives me hope that it will continued to be supported and developed going forward. Thanks for the comment!
It's been a minute, my guy! Hope you're well. Great video as usual! I got it simply because it's just cool, ANNNNND i wont see it out in the wild as much as I see the normaly watches. The orange got me. I am training for Spartan Races so that another win. This should last me about 5 years.
Oh yeah 5 years easy, nothing wrong with buying for the cool factor. My little brother got the orange alpine loop and doesn’t like how dirty it’s gotten already. Good seeing you in the comments bro 🙏🏾
5:36 "And how long this watch will be considered Ultra". This is also my concern and the reason why I'm still considering it. When Apple changed the design of the iPhone with iPhone X, it was released alongside with the iPhone 8. And this year Apple released AW 8 and AW Ultra. Does Apple consider the AW Ultra the "equivalent" to the iPhone X and next year the "regular" Apple Watch will have the rumoured squared design or will they keep the design of the 'regular' AW? I'm also concerned that Apple releases some exciting health or something that does not come to the Ultra. I don't think if you buy an Ultra that you can go back to the same "old" design of the regular AW.
yeah I agree for sure, I think that flat design that was rumored a year or so ago will be the standard Apple Watch design alongside the ultra. That design looks a little thicker so I think better battery life will come to the series 9 or 10 for sure. thanks for joining the conversation! 🙏🏾
Thank you for pointing out that the previous watch bands fit but look bad because of the gap. So many reviewers saying "your previous watch bands will fit" but none give us the true "but it'll look like shit".
I cud hv got the same features on the regular apple watch, but i never had felt to buy any of them over the past 6 years. Ultra is what made me wanna hit the buy button, I am happy.
I did have to buy the ocean band, all the others were sold out. I figured that it’s going to be the easiest to clean. I am going to look for third party bands to see if there are any good ones that fit the right way.
I got mine yesterday. I came from an epix 2 and i really like the look of the ultra, especially the option swith the bands is what i really enjoy over the garmin.
Hello Sir, I am a new subscriber and I just want to say that I really liked your review. First thing I noticed is that you’re straightforward and seem to be a down to earth individual. Please stay true to yourself. There are many content creators that change who they are and they seem fake to me. It is very refreshing to get your honest opinion on the watch. Keep the videos coming. I enjoyed it thoroughly. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks for the excellent Review! I doubt I'll ever own one just because I'm up there in years ... but I will say it seems off putting that these gorgeous watches have to be charged so often; like make 'em last for three years on a charge so as to be done with the hassle.😎 Btw, can one go on the Internet with one of these?
@@FilmedbyFresh RU-vid messing with your videos! I can’t believe I’m just seeing this 2 days later. But I’m glad I found this. I have the series 6 and will not be upgrading this works perfect for me atm.
You are spot on in this review, Apple does a great job of trying to get u to by new every year. Unlike most people I’ll get a newer phone about every 3 years if it makes it that long, but I do preorder the new Apple and Galaxy Watches every year for the past 4 years.
@@FilmedbyFresh I’ve always liked watches ever since my super Mario 3 Nintendo game watch in like 1990. I’m a sucker for a good watch. Lol great video. Thanks
Finding your review was timely for real. Your style shows that this watch can be stylish. I love the look of the galaxy 5 pro titanium silver but it doesn’t work with iOS 😠 Saying that, I like my Gold stainless steel series 6, and it looks good with the yellow ocean band and others but the battery. You ain’t lying about resale either. $95 for mine. I’m just keeping it. I may get the Ultra for the battery. Wasn’t sure if it could be styled but seeing you and you look like me, helped me reconsider the Ultra. The thing is, I also still rock the G-shocks so that helps me erase “I need a bigger watch” buzz.
Right on time! I have been getting the g shock itch lately too. Gonna feature some case and band options you may appreciate tomorrow morning in a new video
Your video production is superb for someone who has a “growling” number of subscribers. Salute to you, honestly. May I suggest a few things: your right hand was completely hidden up until you went off script at the end. Move that right hand as well as the left hand, when you’re talking. Be sure to keep that eye contact when you’re going off script, slow your words down a bit. You talk a bit lower and faster when you’re really talking about things you have an opinion about. You have a great speaking voice so be sure we are hearing all the things that you hate or enjoy. Apple Watches are jewelry and I’ll argue that until I’m dead. Great video, Buddy. I just subscribed and I’m along for the ride when you hit that million.
If you compare with the price of the Watch Series 8 in steel, there is only USD 50 difference. I’m waiting for mine at the end of October to replace my Series 5 and I can't wait for it!!!
FINALLY, someone who isn’t complaining about it being too big. My 8”+ wrists are loving the Ultra. Have you tried an Ocean band yet? I’ve been reading that they are too small for anything much over 7.5”. I’ll probably get an Ocean band with an extension eventually to try out over my wetsuit for diving, but wondering if they are too small to rock on land.
lol yeah I am not mad at the size, one of my coworkers has the ocean band next time I see him I will have to try it on and see how it fits. The yellow ocean band looks nice imo
@@FilmedbyFresh Thanks!! Agreed on the yellow, and a lot of my dive gear is yellow already since it’s one of the best colors to get noticed by a boat when floating on the surface. Some would say for rescue, I’d say more for “please don’t run my chubby seal-looking self over with the fishing boat you never learned to drive”.
