This was so very helpful. We bought a house with an old Scotsman that needed so much work and was so expensive so we are worried about that brand. We are now building a house with an open kitchen, living room so noise level is important. Now I know what to search for.
I've been on the fence regarding a Nugget versus Cube Scotsman ice maker. Your video has us now leaning towards the Nugget SCN60 as we had an Electrolux that made cubes and it made noise ALL THE TIME! We got used to it as we have a large family room + kitchen home and during quiet parts of a movie, there's the ice maker! Nice video.
The XO models is very noisy. Mine is in a pantry and thankfully we can close the door. Also in 2023 both pumps failed, recently out of warranty and cost me $1000, and three service calls.
Not as helpful as I would have expected. We just recently installed a sub-zero under counter ice maker which makes clear ice. We expected to hear the noise of ice dropping - what we did not expect was the loud humming compressor running 24/7. We have a sub-zero refrigerator/freezer which we barely hear when it runs. Not certain why the ice-maker needs to be this loud when it is not actively making ice.
We had the exact same thing just happen with our new SZ ice maker! Intolerable and we had to return it. (We had a 10 year old SZ model previously, and the noise was just fine.) What did you end up going with?
Thanks for this explanatory video. Can you do a deeper dive into under counter nugget ice makers? My wife is requesting that I replace the wine cooler with one of these. Thanks in advance.
I am looking at a nugget ice machine, What is you best suggestion? Was looking at the Scotsman, but it seems to have a lot of bad reviews, hope you have a suggestion for panel ready 15" undercounted model for Nugget or pearl ice. Thank you for the review
I have a sub-zero under counter ice machine in the bar that is located on the middle of a 4,000 sq home. We can hear a loud noise from every room. Is this normal ?
What is the quietest clear ice machine you have tested? Also are there any clear ice machines designed to store the ice at 0° Fahrenheit after it's been made instead of letting it continuously melt?
