Mathematics has proved to be an indispensable tool for understanding the world around us. It plays a fundamental role both in the realm of sciences and of commerce and finance. MUIC delivers applied mathematics major that combines the benefits of a well-rounded general education in science and humanities to produce high-caliber graduates capable of undertaking graduate studies, secondary school teaching and professions in IT, finance, banking, statistics, and actuarial science.
The program offers three tracks: applied mathematics, financial mathematics, and statistics. After the second year of study, students can choose to specialize in financial mathematics or statistics or remain in the applied mathematics track. The financial mathematics track offers courses such as Actuarial Mathematics I & II and Risk Management and Derivatives, and through these courses students can be prepared or even earn some credits towards SOA exams, a pathway to become a credentialed actuary or financial analyst.
