In this video, we take you through the process of applique for a quilt as you go. We show you three different stitches for fusible raw edge applique: zig-zag stitch, blanket stitch, and sketchy applique. From there, we show you how to quilt your applique design.

My brother says do not use reverse with the walking foot?
@PatternPooleTV
@PatternPooleTV 3 месяца назад
Oh okay, well maybe stitch the dandelions with your regular foot and see how that goes. It should be okay as it's the last part of the quilting and the quilt sandwich should be well anchored with the outline and echo quilting.

Yes, my walking foot broke when I did that in the past. I had to get it fixed. I don’t do that anymore!

Favourite applique threads are from Sweet Pea or a Mettler PolySheen.

Can I do the appliqué stitch when the batting has been sandwich in between instead of doing on the first layer first and then stick around when the sandwich has been done as to the quilting .
@PatternPooleTV
@PatternPooleTV 2 месяца назад
Yes you can do this but the applique stitch that you choose such as a blanket stitch or zig zag will be visible on the back of the quilt. Some people like the look of this, it's a personal choice. You can also use a busy backing fabric to disguise the stitching on the back of the quilt.

Can i use the blanket stitch on the 3-layer sandwich? Why did you just use the 3 layers on the sketchy applique?
@PatternPooleTV
@PatternPooleTV 3 месяца назад
Yes, if you don't mind the look of the zig zag or blanket stitch on the back of your quilt. You'd have to test some samples to adjust your stitch length and tension to suit stitching through the extra thickness. There's always more than 1 way to do something and everyone has different preferences. Personally, I don't like the look of the blanket stitch or zig zag on the back of a quilt, but I like the look of sketchy applique on the back. As I said, try some samples and go with what works for your machine and you.

Will there be appliqué part 3 time to bloom

We planned to have only 1 applique video for the Time to Bloom quilt as all the applique blocks are made in the same way.

What are we marking with the straight edge & creaser at 38 minutes?
@PatternPooleTV
@PatternPooleTV 3 месяца назад
Just a mark that is 2” in from the edge of the block as a reminder to not quilt 2” away from the edge. Don’t quilt on this line though.

Could you use wash a way stabilizer
@PatternPooleTV
@PatternPooleTV 4 месяца назад
Yes you could. However, you would have to prewash your fabrics so that there are no nasty surprises such as shrinkage and colour bleed when you completely wet the block to dissolve the washaway stabiliser. I recommend testing first.
@michellegallas9916

What about wash away stabilizer?
@PatternPooleTV
@PatternPooleTV 3 месяца назад
Yes, you could use a washaway stabiliser. However, here are some issues to watch out for: 1. If you didn't prewash your fabric, the block that you wash could shrink and be a different size to your other blocks. 2. Once washed and dried, you'll want to iron the block to remove the wrinkles. If you used a polyester embroidery thread, is may melt under the iron. Best to try a sample first.

Je montrerai demain quelques photos de l'écran de ma machine avec les points que j'utilise dans le groupe Facebook. facebook.com/groups/patternpoolegroup Le produit que je déchirais est un stabilisateur déchirable, il est un peu plus doux que le papier.
