I have tried this myself. Not bad. I found that putting the canned foam on by hand with wet hands and wetting it a bit more when on the face works wonders. I’ve also left it on the face as a pre-shave and loaded lathered up shave soap on top which gives even better results for my sensitive skin. Interesting. Thanks. 💯
I had heard that you could take the aerosol shave creams and mix up a decent lather but never quite believed it until tonight. Thanks, Geo, for the video. I appreciate ya!
Wow i was about to throw my Gillette sensitive foam away just coz of the air in the foam and it was not moisturising the skin enough when i came across this video. Tried it today and I'm in love with the foam... such a great way to get that desired shave. Kudos!!!
For years my quick go to cheap lather was a puck of 99 cent Williams soap, a wet brush full of hot water, and a few squirts of Barbasol. Got the best of both worlds, slick wet Williams lather, and thick sustained Barbasol shaving cream lather. Sadly Williams is discontinued, so using sparingly.
You absolutely can! Pun intended! I’m not a DE shaver but I spray shave gel straight onto my shaving brush to lather my face. But I use mid tier shave gel not super cheap Barbasol.
Great Barbasol shave! A useful tip on applying the Barbasol with a brush. But that defeats the purpose of using Barbasol for me. I only use it when I want a quick shave with less clean up...no brush or shaving bowl to mess up. One thing going for Barbasol is the low price. A can of foam is less than $2.
"Necessity is the mother of invention" and wet shaving too! Right GEO? Thanks for the entertaining video. Happy 2023 from a very satisfied customer in Portland Oregon!
That's a hack worth keeping in your tool belt, given how cheap Barbasol still is. Have you ever used their 1919 lather-less version? They apparently came out with an after shave balm recently too.
Barbasol is my favorite shave foam in a pinch but even then I’m grabbing my barbasol 1919 brushless shave cream over most things but thanks for the idea definitely interesting
Canned shaving foam and a brush also work well for a face-lather. I did this twice. Wet brush; squeeze out excess water; squirt a couple portions of canned foam onto or into the ends or tips of the brush; apply to face. Add more water if necessary. My results were very good when I did this.
Even though I also prefer the traditional shaving cream, I think using shaving gel or foam combined with water and brush, you will also get really good results both olfactoric and regarding it's gliding properties. It's only those propellant which makes the raw canned products so counterproductive while shaving. Better to shave with high-quality, high-end creams or soaps, but a nice shave gel shave is quite nice when mixing it with water and brush, I THINK SO at least. I kind of agree with Lawrence here.
That Old Spice mug is the exact same one that I use for my regular shave, usually with Barbasol. I never need to purposely add any water either, because the soaked shaving brush does that on its own. I like using Proraso too, but Barbasol is so much cheaper and easy to find in local stores.
I honestly don't remember the last time I had a can of even good old barbasol in my bathroom cabinet. Couple of years now, I think. For quick shaves I keep and tube of Cremo. Fantastic stuff and great for carving out facial hair styles.
Try using it as a pre shave, and face lather something like porraso or Taylor of old bond street over, the slickness it adds is really nice for the shave.
Thanks, Geo! Will definitely have to try it. I know Barbasol has all types of shaving creams, several with some nice scents and one with extra moisturizing. I've always liked Barbasol as it's a good cream and the price is reasonable.
Oh, that was nice! Didn't expect you to get a good shave out of a canned shaving cream, but guess what... the magic of good old bowl and brush did the trick... Might try one day, but I'm not giving proraso green up anytime soon, haha. I don't even know any brands of canned shaving cream... Great shave, Geo! Greetings from still sunny Bulgaria!
Great shave Geo💈💈 and nice different razor there. Never really thought about adding water to the canned foam to make traditional cream, as I never use it. Thanks to the subscriber for suggestion. Nice video and results using an uncommon technique, worked good, thanks. Enjoy!
I tried this prior to watching your video and also cut it down with water. Seemed to work out pretty well. I even tried it with Edge gel squirted down in the lather sump and it also worked out although it was a bit more difficult to get right. I really enjoy your videos and have returned to using a safety razor and traditional shave cream applied with a brush. Now that I have retired from a 30-year stint with a helicopter company, I have had more time to enjoy the simpler things in life that sometimes require a little more preparation. Keep up the great work! Cheers! I also had one of those Old Spice-style shaving mugs.
Has Geo thought of making his own line of shaving soap? 🤔 Scent? Texture? Cream/Soap/Croap? Lanolin/Tallow/Glycerin based? Etc... I'm sure it would be a big seller! Top man Geo 👊
Absolutely! Geo has thought of doing a lot more products, it''s difficult to find good mfgr's who make top notch quality products that are worthy. And-why am I referring to myself in the third person?
I do this as well with my can of barbasol. I use the 1919 as a base coat first, then brush on the cream. I then follow it up with the 1919 shave balm with excellent results. Barbasol smells fantastic.
Ha! I have two of those old mugs. They were my dads. I’m pretty sure he told me they were a free promotion back in the day. Thanks for the entertaining content!
I use Gillette shaving gel with my DE razors on regular basis. It works fine. I just apply the gel on my face. After applying gel, I wet my hands with water a couple of times to add more hydration to gel. This method provides a DFS every time.
Hi Geo, great Video. Interesting using the Barbasol cream. Got to love the Simpsons T3 brush. Just recently bought one myself. Love your antique Old Spice shaving mug, I also have one from the late 50's. But I mostly use a bigger bowl. Your Shave Nation bowl is a must have. (Love it) definitely need to get one. Take care Geo.
I use the Proraso can, watered down with no brush, when I need a quick head shave. It does the job well on the dome. Never on the face though because I’m a snob. 😅
Great video Geo,,, I've been doing this method for a long time, but I use shaving gel as it gives much better results than foam.,,, Do it and you won't regret it :)
Hello gents... If you are ever in a pinch and are out of shaving soap or whatever, I used a very good soap called Allenbury’s Basic Soap... I find it up here in Canada but should be available in the U.S.... happy shaving!...
Great shave Geo. By the way, a non foaming shaving gel (such as Gatsby - superb shaving gel) as a pre-shave before the application of foam makes the experience extremely comfortable.
Hi Geo, Hope this msg. finds you well. Just a note. As a prostate Cancer survivor November(Movember) is male cancer awareness month. To observe I do not shave for the entire month of Movember. This routine began several years ago when I was with the State Police. Sorry Geo, I know it's bad for business but it is a routine that I have followed for decades.
I use Barbasol in a can every shave. I heat the bowl then spray around a table spoon of barbasol into and mix it 1 to 1 with the hottest water possible then i add the how ever much cream i need to complete a shave and mix again its a really a warm lather and thick too.
19:29 - 19:34 this part was straight from a commercial 😂 Great video, nice tips but I'll stick to my shaving soap, it is still far superior to the shaving goo.
OUT OF TOPIC. When you will review MURAMASA TATARA ADJUSTABLE RAZOR? It seems that it is the best razor in the world. You already sell some straight razors in the range of 350 bucks, so you could also sell MURAMASA, which is 359 bucks. I can't see any flaw in its design and it can be the best adjustable razor on the market.
Mr. Geo, I add vinegar to shaving foam to increase its slickness and retard its airiness. 2 caps of vinegar(10mL), swirl the tips in the bowl with it wetting the brush from a dry start, add the foam, deflate the foam by pressing with the brush on it in the bowl, add more foam because the first bowlful will have become watery, get a consistency of a cream, apply it to the face and enjoy a very hydrating shave. It gets almost as close as a Tabac shave which I daily do. It is not as hydrating as Tabac, but maybe with an Arko postshave feeling.
I've tried exactly the same with Nivea sensitive foam. Amazing... The only thing I dislike about Nivea is that it isn't vegan nor cruelty free, though Beiersdorf is making progress on this...they have more and more vegan products. Thanks for all the good information and greetings from the Netherlands.
Could you do a video on tips on edging a beard with a shavette, straight edge razor and/or a safety razor? I'm a Civil War reenactor and I sport a Ambrose Burnside beard (that's where we got the word 'sideburns' from).
Interesting, now try with Nivea GEL, pour in a bowl and work to get a lather (like with a soap), this stuff is actually decent. I was going to throw it in the garbage and now keep it for some rare times.
Hi Geo! Great shaving hack! How about adding to the bowl a couple of liquid glicerin to mix with the brush with Barbasol foam? Just an idea. I have not tried.
Hi everyone. I've been using a Merkur 38C since 2012 but I've noticed some "stuff" on the handle. Not sure if it's rust or just the chrome flaking off. I still love it but I want to try something more aggressive. I use Proraso cream and Feather blades. That's what I started with and it works well for me. I'm thinking the Merkur Futur. If I had to choose only one aggressive, no maintenance razor that will stand the test of time, what would you folks recommend?
@@geofatboy Thank you sir. I'm going to try the shimming mod and see if I like it. For an independent business, your prices are really competitive. I'd buy from you before buying from the likes of Spamazon, etc.
Hello Geo , do you try to shave you with moisturizing cream before shaving cream? It's really the best method. The blade slide very easily on skin. You can shave directly against grain.
Hello Geo. I've noticed you use an alum block after shaving. Can you use an alum block + witch hazel(or a different toner or an astringent) + aftershave(splash or balm or both) + moisturizer or would this routine be too irritating for the skin?
Only if I'm in a hurry, I'll just squirt a bit of the Ol' Barbasol right on my Brush and apply it that way But only in a Rush. Have A Great Shave,Have A Great Day
Hello, Been watching your Vids for a while, i have this problem, i cut myself really bad while shaving with a safety razor, i use hot water to open up pores, soap directly from the brush and idk really what to do, so 2 questions, could this be the fault of the blade not Warmed up enough or the layer of soap that's too thin? Its like visible but not to deep, thanks
What razor are you using? Maybe start off on a not so aggressive razor. Also make sure your blade angle is good, try to see what angle other people use in videos. Basically "ride the cap" pretend you are shaving with the top cap and slowly angle the razor until it starts cutting hair. That should give you a good angle of the razor/blade. Make sure to use basically no pressure and let the weight of the razor do the work. Also changing blade brands can help with that, less aggressive blade so fewer cuts or maybe a more aggressive blade because the current brand isn't cutting through your beard hair very efficiently so it's tugging/dragging and you feel like you have to use more pressure against your face to cut your hair. The nice thing with safety razors is there is a lot of things to customize it to how you like it. The downside is you might have to try a couple different things to see what ya like. They have blade sampler packs to try out and see what razor blades work for you.
Idk watching this stuff made me shave my beard, I enjoy wetshaving and had a beard for a few years. Nice to do something different. Will grow it back eventually
I fail to see the point of someone wishing to use a brush on the garbage in a spray can, sorry. Spray shave cream and Mach lll or Bic throw aways go together. The modern world. Time is money. But not quality time.
What's up Bro! I hope you're doing well. What is up with our boy TW??? Also-I had you in mind when I made this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-f-LGFYKGve4.html
@@geofatboy Hey Geo! How the hell are you? Happy Holidays to you and your family. I haven't spoken to that loser since last July. Sometimes you have to cut the toxic shit out of your life and I've been all the better for it. I love that Halloween video man, excellent work!
