The end of this week we visited the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix as part of applying for a clinical trial. I've been battling my cancer for 2 years and a few months, and failed the first two drug options available so now at the stage where I need to try more outlying options. This trip is our next hope in slowing down the cancer growth. The news we received from the scans was not great, but hopefully further supports my eligibility for the trial.
I have stage 4 GIST (gastrointestinal stromal tumor), a form of Sarcoma. It's a rare cancer that has no cure but some treatment options that can help slow the cancer growth. Since having a massive resection surgery last year the cancer quickly returned and has been growing an rapidly increasing rate. Through this process we continue to Choose To Live by putting forward our best fight and making the most of each day we have.
