This short video from restoration expert Don Williams shows how easy (and impressive) it is to add gold leaf to a project. You can view the entire project at bit.ly/Traditio.... For everything woodworking visit www.popwood.com.
“I’m confident in my masculinity so I don’t have any problem going into cosmetic departments buying things that I need” the way he didn’t throw shade, he threw the whole tree and I’m ac gagged by it 🤭
I’m a wallpaper hanger and artisan in Australia I make most of my own tools , glues stencils and paints. I absolutely love gold leaf especially with random sand texture. I like weird dualities, Symmetry and odd balances.
I liked this, in general, but I wish you’d given some details such as more information about sizes (why you’re using that type) and did you use loose leaf gold or transfer? I’m a bit familiar with reverse glass gilding, but would like to learn about gilding on wood.
Thank you for putting out this video. I do a lot of gold leafing on my projects and I always fin, and in fact notice it in this video too, that there are a lot of definite lines or creases in the gold, any suggestions on reducing this?
would have been nice if you would have shown the ENTIRE process...... instead you start with half of it already done. why would not show how to apply the glue??? thumbs down.
I scrolled thru the comments, and it doesn't look like you ever reply to questions. But in case you decide to: I notice that the leaf sheet has a lot of creases when you lay it down. And once you've finished the application, I can still see where some of them are. How can this be eliminated?
It depends what you use the gold leaf on. In furniture and picture frames, you would use 'sizing' which is the name for the glue. After you use the sizing, let it get tacky very lightly, then foil. Let it dry. Brush clean. Then apply a microcrystalline wax or sealer coat like a very light spray varnish or lacquer. This finish coat prevents tarnishing of cheaper imitation gold leaf. Real gold leaf will not tarnish, but could use a sealer for handling.
Very poor use of my time. Show us what you use for background paint, sizing glue, and put some links below text. You wasted half a sheet of real gold. Sad. If buying a blush brush does not affect your masculinity, why did you have to mention it? Of course it bothered you. That's why you brought it up. It does not affect my feminine side to shop at Home Depot. I feel quite proud of my power tool skills, so why do you think any man would care either? Men wear cosmetics, earrings, jewelry, and even dress like women.
@@albertotr1 So you are agreeing for me? You are making my decisions now too? Ha, ha, ha! What an insecure man. No, I don't agree. My comment provided value. Your video did not.
