mam,i am 28yrs old and i was diagnosed with beta thalassemia trait 4 yrs ago..over the years,i have had NO symptoms or problems and maintained hb levels above 13. However,4 months ago,i suddenly developed mild splenomegaly (11.7cm) followed by a viral cough and low grade fever that persisted for 3 weeks. My blood smear at that time was normal.Blood counts(all types) were normal. However,my hb level on one occasion was 11.4 and the next time,i got tested, it was 13.10. Doctors are not considering the fact that my spleen is causing increased pressure on abdomen with each day that passes, and i have constant abdominal discomfort for the past 4 months, that gets a little worse after heavy meal. Also, I feel extremely tired and dizzy throughout the day.But don't have any fever now.Can u please advise me as to what tests need to be done now? Do u think this SUDDEN ONSET SPLENOMEGALY just 4 months ago, and prior to a viral infection is due to thalassemia minor or some other disease?i will be grateful to u if u reply to my queries.🙏
It's actually vary according to days of life, maturity or gestation age, birth weight.
