Thanks Hudson. Would like to see an ATS on how you set up your automatic focus stacking on the z cameras, number of steps with start and step etc. Really liked the composites this week.

Thanks for the video! I can't wait for my 24-120mm. Ordered it back in the first week of January, was hoping to get it for April 15th vacation to Morocco. Sold my 24-70mm to MPB last month and just found out that the new lens won't arrive until May. Oh is me... I guess I will have touse a 24-120mm F lens.

Have the 58 f/0.95 Noct myself too and it truly is an incredible lens. Hadn’t tried it with MSM yet as I’m too nervous about the weight limit but seeing you were able to do it with a Z 9 and the Noct may embolden me a bit there to try it this season! Excellent ATS and images from the recent workshops!
@HudsonHenryPhoto
@HudsonHenryPhoto 2 года назад
I would not use it on the msm moving forward. In Joshua tree we used my iOptron skyguider pro with the counter balance and it was fabulous. :)

@@HudsonHenryPhoto Ah, gotcha. I haven’t had the chance to go through your Milky Way course completely but don’t suppose you have any guidance on how to use ioptron in there, do you? Know it’s a bit more advanced so if not, maybe another ATS or even supplemental course to the Milky Way course on purchasing and using for more heavy setups?

Amazing pics and great advice. I am just learning to use my MSM, excellent advice - more is less!!!! I'll be heading to Kenya mid May (I am a physical therapist and I teach at the University there as a volunteer) and once my teaching gig is done I'll be in the Masai Mara for the new moon - very excited. My question is, any advice regarding using the MSM when just South of the equator - looking to get some tracked MW shots as well as MW arch panoramas. Thanks James
@HudsonHenryPhoto
@HudsonHenryPhoto 2 года назад
Hey James, I reccomend some alignment apps in my Milky Way course. I think you'll need a good app on your phone. The MSM has a Southern setting, but you need to know where exactly in the cross to beam that lazer. :-) www.hudsonhenry.com/milkyway Enjoy Kenya. I can't wait till my kids are big enough to take to East Africa. :-)

I got some good experience with the Z-bracket from MSM, find it extremely helpful when doing tracked panos of the milky way arch. Never had any problems with shake/blur

Wow, I'm shocked, but good for you. Thing felt like a very springy diving board to me even with a light rig. I round filled my sample when they didn't want it back. I can't magine using it.

I almost drove out to Jtree that same weekend from Orange County, but didn’t go. I feel sorry for unsuspecting campers at the sites next to the Juniper and rock. I’m sure you were respectful with your group though.

We had the spot below booked a year in advance for that exact night, walked out the day before scouting and went absolutely silent with red lights the next morning. No one knew we were there. ;)

@@HudsonHenryPhoto booking those sites is the way to do it. My first time i felt shitty because I went with a group and didn't know we were going to walk through campsites getting there. My other visits I walked all the way around the rocks at the entrance to Jumbo Rocks and came in from the back.

can't afford any of that gear! I've the Z6 and the luscious z 14-24 S which gives pretty good results. BUT ar 30k from London, England, light pollution is a huge deal. I love those images you show. I wish ...

Great information, as always. What MSM kit would you suggest for us folk in the Southern Hemisphere as we don’t have a North Star to point a laser beam at?
@HudsonHenryPhoto
@HudsonHenryPhoto 2 года назад
The same, but you'll need to get a polar alignment app for your phone and work to perfect your alignment using the southern cross with your app and the laser. It's not easy, but it works with practice.

First of all, excellent video...I do owe currently Z7II, 24-120s and 100-400s. I'm thinking to add an UW lens for nightscapes (very limited experience in that kind of photography), and landscapes in general. I'm kind of between Laowa 15mm F2 and Nikon 20mm F1.8s. Have you had a chance to compare those two, and what's your opinion on Laowa lens, if you tried it yet? I see you like a lot Nikon 20mm lens. Thanks!

Do I really need a Star Tracker >> Just cant afford it >> Saving like mad to get the Z9 hopefully in 18 months time I take single image Milky Way images now and will advance to Stacking
@HudsonHenryPhoto
@HudsonHenryPhoto 2 года назад
Having done a ton of both, I vastly prefer the tracker for ease of capture, processing and final result quality, but stacking can give you great results too. If you look, you'll find the msm tracker I use and link in the description costs under $200 with my discount code, is super compact and weighs less than 2 pounds. :) the Milky Way video course I offer covers both methods in fine detail.

When on extended trips like this, I use my laptop and a Lacie 4TB external drive to store and edit my photos. When I get home I am always confused about moving the files from that drive onto my desktop in Lightroom without loosing the edits I have made. Could you speak to that process?
@R.Hogarth

Sounds like a couple of great workshops! Quick question, would the Move-Shoot-Move handle the weight of a camera such as your Z6 or Z7 and the 24-120 lens? I am trying to get an idea of if it would handle my A7R3 and the Sony 24-105 f/4G.
@HudsonHenryPhoto
@HudsonHenryPhoto 2 года назад
Absolutely. With zero hesitation. It did fine with the Z9 and 14-24 which is a much bigger load.

Why do you prefer focus stacking over using the hyperfocal distance on the wide angle shots?
@HudsonHenryPhoto
@HudsonHenryPhoto 2 года назад
I can use f5.6-11 instead of stopping down and inducing diffraction. I get way better quality. :)

So your z favorite sunstar lenses are 24-120 and 14-30? Would you say they are better than your f-mount favorite?
@HudsonHenryPhoto
@HudsonHenryPhoto 2 года назад
Not the 14-30, the 14-24. I'm not a fan of the 14-30 star. No, my favorite "star" is the F mount 20 1.8 stopped all the way down, but... The Z lenses' image quality is so ludicrously better, both of them edge to edge at all apertures, that I can't picture carrying it with such great stars from the those two much better lenses.
