There is something very satisfying and feel good about Hudson’s Videos. I love the ‘Loft’ location and his content regarding tips for Photography and new Gear coverage. This Video should be very helpful to those new to the craft. I appreciate the common sense approach, to sensor care. I would add that before I remove any lens, I use the ‘rocket blower’ and blow all around the lens mount area of the camera, and then take the lens off. I have the lens that will be swapped out, sitting with the rear cap loose, and ready to go. Keeping the rear of the lens, and cap clean, is just as important, if not more than the cavity of the body! Yes, I am OCD when it comes to keeping the sensor clean, and I avoid wet cleaning if at all possible. Dust WILL always be around, and it will get in, no doubt. A tip on the Rocket Blower: I keep mine in a Ziplock Freezer bag, with the date I first start using it. This keeps air out, and keeps the blower clean, and the Date reminds me when I need to replace it. Blowers DO have a ‘shelf life,’ and when the material breaks down, very small particles of the blower can be let loose into the camera, onto the lens, etc. Before I use mine on a lens, body, etc. I will squeeze it a few times into the air, Just FYI. Happy and Safe Shooting !!!

I just came back from Scotland! LOVED IT!! I brought my Z9 with my 180-600, 15-30mm and 24-120mm, with my Mavic 3 Pro and the Mavic 3 mini, I had so much fun! Loved flying my drone in Scotland, Had to register with the Scotland gov. To make sure everything was good to go

Great video as always. One comment: newer Sony cameras should not be cleaned with the camera off. Instead, one must engage the cleaning mode in the settings. The sensor in the A7 IV/R V/S III floats to a resting position when off.

Hello Hudson, I love the look of that sensor blower. I will be trying to get one in the UK.

Hi Hudson - might be worth investing in some Wellington boots with the Vibram soles if working near water. It can get really boggy & we’ve had some VERY wet weather here in Scotland just lately. Can’t wait to see some footage & images from your Scottish trip. All the best!

It's much more pronounced in deserts and uber cold conditions. It will happen eventually. ;-)

I haven't had to clean my sensor a single time since I moved from Nikon and Fuji to Olympus (now OM) cameras back in 2009. The SSWF sensor cleaning system has made dust spots a non-issue for me. Cleaning the sensor was always nerve wracking for me. Now, a little buzz when you power up and you know the dust bunnies are gone.

For times when the normal dust blower won’t get everything off the sensor I use a sensor cleaning brush to lightly clean off the sensor. I find you will rarely have to do a wet cleaning or use a sensor cleaning stick if you use the brush per the instructions when the blower won’t quite get it. I think I bought it from Amazon and it’s made by The Dust Patrol. It’s uses electrostatic charge to lightly lift the particles off the sensor and not just a brush that pushes the dust around hoping to dislodge it. You more often will deposit dust and other particles back on the sensor due to its own light charge in the process of getting some off. The brush is specifically designed to clean digital camera sensors and it seems to work very well without harming the sensor in the least.

Never had much luck with brushes. I've wet cleaned hundreds of sensors with no harm. Takes about 30s once you've done a few dozen. Dead simple and crazy effective.

Ive had no issues cleaning it. There's a slight bit of play in the assembly, but nothing that concerns me with my normal cleaning routine. It's certainly not fragile feeling. :)

Hi, Thats exactly how I ALWAYS change my camera lenses. Re, blowing the lens or shield - does it not just blow dust around in there that then lands somewhere else on the sensor when it settles? Presumably not as you wouldn't do it I'm guessing. That powerful blower on my sensor would freak me out and I think I'd worry me it would damage it!
@HudsonHenryPhoto
@HudsonHenryPhoto 9 месяцев назад
Oh it wont hurt your sensor at all. It's got a great filter. I've been doing it every day here in Scotland. It's fabulous. No no, you just hold the body upside down and you knock the dust out with the blower. It drops out and it's gone.

@@HudsonHenryPhoto Fantastic. Thanks for confirming - you've given me the confidence to try it. Hope the weathers not too bad up there in bonnie Scotland. Still fairly mild in the UK at the mo though Scotland normally 2-3 degrees cooler, though guessing you're seeing a fair amount of rain. I am desparate to get up there within the next 6 months - There are sooo many fantastic places to go with your camera in the North West, from Glencoe, the road to Mallaig, Old man of Storr on Sky, Sandwood Bay, Balnakiel baythe Bealach no Ba road, glen Affric - the list goes on. Isle of Mull is beautiful and the whole of Westeross - but only so much you can do in a week or two. Thanks for the video. And for the Z8 setup, which I am watching now which is EXTREMELY informative and helpful.

@user-xz3dh3by4u
@user-xz3dh3by4u 9 месяцев назад
They make it in a Z mount. Hudson did a great review of it and I’m constantly on the fence about getting one. Seeing it here again re-opens this particular GAS wound for me, sadly. Perhaps I can settle on waiting until (if) the eye-detect functionality comes to the Z8.
@HudsonHenryPhoto
@HudsonHenryPhoto 9 месяцев назад
It's incredible. I've got the Plena with me in Scotland testing it and I can't keep the voigtlander 1.0 off the ZF to do it. ;) With the ZF's eye detect manual focus, insane ibis and that sensor's lowlight prowess my hit ratio manually focusing eyes at night is at about 90%. It's crazy fun and the results are flat insane. Special, special lens made to live on the ZF. I hope a Z7ii replacement comes soon around 60mp with some of this ZF tech... That would be amazing.

It only helps, it doesn’t prevent it. Crap get in the back of the lens and for lack of better words, the cavity of the camera. If it between the camera and sensor, when that curtain opens, it’s still there.
@HudsonHenryPhoto
@HudsonHenryPhoto 9 месяцев назад
And that's why you keep it blown out, and if neccessary... swabbed out. :-) Not hard to do.

Hey Hudson, I think that I heard you say in the video that you have the blower set on level 3 for cleaning the sensor. The listing on Amazon says that level 1 is the setting to use for sensor cleaning. Can you clarify for us? I just ordered one, and I want to know whether you think it's safe to use the highest setting for cleaning stubborn dust off a sensor. Thanks. Have a great time in Scotland...and I'm still hoping that we can all head to Katmai for some grizzly photography some day.
