I just watched Pt. 1 today. This was the second YT demo on hood vents I've seen and it was the best. You used a great saw. I think your job looks awesome and should be very functional. I am sold. I might buy those. Great work. You have gained so much skill as a mechanic and as a RU-vidr. Your overall product is excellent.

Your a little off on the left side of the hood compared to the right side but still an awesome install video! I don’t have the guts to cut my hood so videos like these make me happy😅! Good content like always.

1 thing to consider when installing vents is the structural integrity of the bonnet, the underside has reinforcing in order for the bonnet to retain its shape, cutting this reinforcing out makes some of the metal flex and in some cases it can flex really badly, so becareful as to where your cutting so you dont create too much flex.

Drill the corners with stepped sheet metal drill first to make clean corners that are harder to overshoot and then look less ghetto from underneath. Clean the edges with rotary tool. Leave the hood structure underneath it’s there for multiple reasons: simple structural integrity and for proper crash performance (crumpling in proper order). Paint all steel edges.

Looks beautiful..1 thing id recommend if you have enough metal on the passenger side so the vent could slide in a bit more toward body line without lip of vent on opposite side having and opening that way can correct the lower inside vent not on body line as drive side is.

Looks good for universal pieces. One thing I'd definitely suggest you do is paint the cuts on the fender venting. raw metal rust fast. I'd even do the hood. doesn't have to be a pro job. a can of black Rustolioum (or however you spell it) tape everything up add some newspaper and hit all the cuts with a few coats. Should save you a lot of headaches in the future. Anything, just seal up the bare metal. But definitely should see a few degrees difference next track day. 👍

I actually did paint the exposed metal on the fenders and the hood with some touch up paint! Just forgot to film that step. Great suggestion tho!

@@WRXGarage Nice, just wanted to make sure. You're obviously a very intelligent person, so I kinda figured you did. But didn't see any mention in the video and I'm sure people will try to side vent mod. So I figured I'd bring it up. We have to save as many of the VA's as possible. ✌️

You should look into getting the Verus Hood Scoop Block off. That way the air comes through the front and leaves through the vents without interference from air coming in through the hood scoop. That will really help with IAT’s and overall temps
@WRXGarage
@WRXGarage 2 года назад
Yeah, that's next on the list! I might be adding a top mount oil cooler instead, so we'll see.
@grimmone6213

@@WRXGarage question, how can you use versus hood scoop block off when running a top mount inter cooler. won’t that defeat the top mount air intake?
@WRXGarage

I'm running a front mount intercooler not a top mount.

I originally was going to open the fake fender vents, but when I got my fenders rolled and pulled , he trimmed my liner and so heat comes out of there instead.

Mine is heat soaking bad but it’s heat soaking my coolant and I have a koyo radiator. A turbo blanket helps a lot but the size of the turbo and the closed deck block it’s very hard to keep the temps down.
@WRXGarage
@WRXGarage 2 года назад
Yeah man, these Subaru's always have heat issues. The only way to really improve temps is to delete the condenser/AC. Also, switching to distilled water instead of OEM coolant helps a ton
@phillipjohnson4156

is it me or is the passenger vent slightly out and away from the center more than the driver side vent? If you look at the hood body lines the driver side flows perfectly along that line while the passenger one seems to veer away from that line towards the front. Or is that just my imagination? Im about to cut into my own wrx hood in just a few minutes. Btw I think the placement is in a great location and I plan on also riding that natural body line.

Yep I see it ..when he trimmed the hole he cut he should trimmed the inside cut that would have leveled it correctly

1 question. What is the concern with rain. I don't see a water trap, so is all that water going inside the engine bay?
@WRXGarage
@WRXGarage 3 месяца назад
Yes, water gets in there, but it's really not as much as you'd think. When driving in the rain, a ton of water comes through your radiator on a normal car anyways. Modern engines are built to withstand water

Ok so whats the update on the TEMPERATURES!! Is the install worth it?? I mean I just bought them and bout to install eitherway😂 But I want to know DATA!!
@WRXGarage
@WRXGarage 5 месяцев назад
Honestly.. it's difficult to tell a difference unless you're really pushing the car to its limit on track. That being said, coolant temps were definitely better as more air is flowing through the radiator and FMIC. IATs were definitely a bit better too! If I remember correctly I think I saw around 5-10 degrees F lower coolant temp. The Oil cooler also made a massive difference!
@Juanparrastudio
@Juanparrastudio 5 месяцев назад
@@WRXGarage damn thats good to hear bro. Because I have Getadom cooling mod installed, Koyo radiator, lower temp Thermostat and these 3 have given me crazy low temps and I live in Miami Florida... summer get HOT... maybe no DRY HOT live California but I just love to see my cars engine COOL 180-185 max temp F.
@WRXGarage
@WRXGarage 5 месяцев назад
That's awesome! On track, you'll see coolant temps up near 230 which is scary. Once you add an oil cooler which eliminates the oil/coolant crossover the oil will stop heating the coolant at those crazy high temps

How have the vents stood up to the heat? I fitted some functional plastic ones last year, one has kinda melted a bit. Going to attempt to mould some CF ones myself.

@@WRXGarage it's so that way you can read what kind of blade is on there as if you wouldn't know right 😂 it's kind of like putting your shoes on wrong you can do it but it's not quite right you did that help with the cooling on the Subaru is it a noticeable difference considering doing it to mine? But if there's no big temp difference not worth it for me

Did you reinstall the U-shaped insulation piece on the underside of the hood after installing the hood vents? If not, have you noticed any changes in engine noise dampening? I’ve read that the OEM hood insulation also helps protect the hood paint from engine heat exposure. Any comments on either of those considerations? On my 2021 WRX, this OEM insulation piece has been significantly damaged by mice. I’m fairly confident I’ve resolved the mouse problem, but now I’m trying to decide whether to replace the insulation or just remove it completely. Thanks.

Not really, unless you park in heavy rain. Engine bays are waterproof by design so small amounts of water are fine.
