I'm really struggling to read, I've been really unwell for quite some time, I've got very little ability to concentrate. I haven't even made much of a dent in Loving Country and I'm really enjoying it. I really enjoy this kind of content.
💜💜 I wish you wellness soon! I really really wish I could've had Loving Country in hardcover but I think I'd still be waiting for it to arrive. It didn't feel like the environmentally mindful thing to have it shipped from Aus to me, but I know that the photos would've been beautiful in colour.
💜I'm excited for it! I would definitely suggest 'Moon of the Crusted Snow' first, I think Turning Leaves picks up the story assuming you've read the first book.
Hope you enjoy ALL your April books! I look forward to our "Nettle and Bone" discussion (I haven't started it yet but also have high hopes) 💜 Although focus has been really hard for me lately, I did manage a small miracle of finishing "This Is How You Lose The Time War," which was your rec in a previous monthly catchup. That was a lot of book in a small number of pages 😅 And it was worth it because I enjoyed it👌🏼
Oh I have not started! 💜 I will read it closer to the discussion, which I have no idea whether I'll make live but I hope to. I am glad you enjoyed Time War!!
'Sweep of Stars' was really cool and I am totally reading the sequel! It's a really interesting blend between future - spaceships and wormholes - and drawing on spirituality, history, and culture in the world-building. 💚 There is SO many great books I could mention. Some suggestions for specifically Afrocentric / Afrofuturist fantasy -- Suyi Davies Okungbowa's "Son of the Storm," NK Jemisin's work, and P. Djèlí Clark's work (I love the djinn books especially). For sc-fi -- Nnedi Okorafor's "Binti" trilogy of novellas, Cadwell Turnbull's "The Lesson" (which is an alien visitation story set in Virgin Islands), and Nicky Drayden's "Escaping Exodus" (living spaceships!!) come to mind. If you're on Goodreads or any of those reviewing sites, they have some good lists.
My April TBR is only two books, I'm still reading from my March TBR. :) I fell down the creation myths rabbit hole and am doing a comparison and contrast read-a-long with my niece. The first is Tara The Liberating Power of the Female Buddha by Rachael Wooten, PHD and Nettle and Bone by T. Kingfisher hoping to catch the 3 Girls One Book live.
