It’s wonderful to see a garden that includes wildlife as being an integral part of it. Thank you for supporting the birds and the bees by letting some weeds grow.❤
Hi Isabel, thank you for the lovely spring tour. I'm fairly new to gardening having started my garden around 18 months ago and your video was full of useful nuggets of info for me. This is my first proper spring and it's been so exciting to see the plants and shrubs I've been nurturing coming back to life and filling out. I had one disaster during the winter when one of the storms blew my mini-greenhouses over scattering all the cuttings I had taken, most were saved(I think!) but many lost their labels, I can spot the obvious ones but the rest are going to remain a mystery until they grow.😄 I'm just waiting for the ground to dry up a bit and then cut more beds into the old lawn, clear the huge bramble patch and get my pond dug. Then there's potting up, planting out, cutting back, create a compost corner etc etc, so much to do!! I'm trying not to get too overwhelmed and just focus on one job at a time and if some things are neglected for this season it really doesn't matter, what's important is that I'm learning and having fun and keeping fit, body and mind. 💚🌱🌼🐸🐝🦋🌿☀️
Oooh exciting! I do love a project and it sounds like you`ve got a few. But - you`re right - try not to feel overwhelmed. Just do what you can. The main thing is that you enjoy what you`re doing and if the wildlife enjoy it too - even better!! I`m glad you found the video helpful. Thanks for watching.
Thanks so much. I`m so glad you`re into gardening. There`s no reason why you can`t have a garden like mine. The very best of luck with your garden and thanks for watching.
Hello Isabel. New subscriber here. Love your garden and look forward to learning from your journey. I have a tiny garden in Cambridgeshire which I am also trying to make more wildlife friendly.
I am so glad I found your channel! Your garden is so lovely and interesting. You have really inspired me. I have tried all my life to be a conventional gardener, but never managed to be very sucessful, but thanks to you I have started to look at my wet and weedy garden at the Norwegian west coast from a new perspective.
I have self sown Rowan and Hawthorne trees, birds scatter seeds so your plants that you aren't sure of maybe germinated from some of those seeds. My gardens are quite wild which I'm enjoying as habitat. There is such a joy of watching the nature in my back yard.
😂😂 no noooottt creeping buttercup. I leave dandelions but creeping buttercup are taking over my beds so something has to give. It does look lovely in your garden Isabel. I hope you get some warmer and sunnier days soon. Have a wonderful weekend and happy wilding, Ali 🥶🌞🇨🇦
Enjoyed the tour Isabel. Not sure why some of your trees are looking a little unhappy maybe the rain has damaged the leaf buds and they'll send out second buds this happened with my oak one year. Hope they recover anyway. I have creeping buttercup, it's not taken over my garden I pull if necessary. As with many of the wildflowers they may need a little control. As you say you will need to be the herbivore occasionally 😊. Good to see the meadow grass seed is doing well.
Thanks Tracy, that`s encouraging. A couple of people have suggested the weather may be affecting the trees and shrubs. Seems reasonable. So I`ll just have to trust that they can look after themselves, although it may take time.
I had a very good bay tree it got hit by hard frost years ago I cut it back to ground got another one to replace it and it started growing again so I gave my son the second one the original one is now 12 ft tall. You just never know.xx🐝🐝🐝
If you cut your flowering shrubs immediately after flowering, it will keep them nice and bushy and it will also give the shrubs time to put new growth on and flower for you next year. 😊
My pieris did not flower this year. I wonder if it was too dry when it was trying to set flower last year. The new growth this year has been lovely. I wonder if it is all to do with erratic weather patterns. Thank you so much for the mooch round your garden.
I woke up to snow and wind this morning, but it's only -2C and it will be warming up tomorrow. I planted some Angelica seeds I bought from a UK supplier last year and much to my amazement they survived my winter and are popping up through the mulch and the snow. There are also about a hundred Juncos and Sparrows in the garden this morning. I consider bare earth in my garden to be an open wound, so I make sure something is growing on every square inch of land.
I am desperate to keep some plants that are absolutely. completely un-friendly - dangerous - to all the rabbits, deer and birds that demolish my garden. We spent thousands, grew from seeds and cuttings, and still they come. My long border is a lethal colander of deep holes instead of luxuriant (expensive) growth, used by rabbits burrowing in from the fields. Enjoy your human-friendly garden while you can; but be warned: not all wildlife is garden-friendly.
