The fact that you don't 'fit in' locally I think is a good thing, it shows your unique and not like everyone else, despite it seeming a little isolating, I'd definitely look at the positive side. Leigh, I tell ya, you are a an awesome young lady! At all the markets, definitely try to keep note of the items that grab the most attention from those looking at your booth. Experimenting with that could help and as far as connecting with other makers, keep on doing that! Don't stop! At least they know who you are and can recommend you to those who do love your style! I totally relate to not fitting in at markets! I had an artist table at a bunch of comic cons and TOTALLY didn't fit in, cuz my stuff was too indie, and artsy, and then at a recent independant comic expo I didn't fit it because it was too...cutesy and magical??? I can't win! But I think it's a matter of trying a bunch and figuring out the audience that attends different ones and if that is "your audience." Personally I feel like you'd fit in really well at some of the "mahou" markets that happen around the USA because your color palettes and cute characters would do okay alongside the more illustrative and more anime artists that go there.
