Apti Alaudinov, commander of the Chechen Akhmat forces fighting for Russia, has refused to exchange Chechen prisoners of war held by Ukraine. Instead, he advised them to "wash off their shame with blood," urging them to die fighting rather than surrender. Being ex military myself I agree with this commander. To surrender to your enemy whilst your comrades in arms die in battle is disgraceful. How is one able to look in the mirror every day of one's life knowing that the face staring back is nothing but a coward.

Same principle of those soldier who defended Marawi City in the Philippines. A soldier was surrounded by Isis and ask his commander to bomb his location, he choose death with honor than to be captured and beheaded with disgrace. So, the Isis died with him with artillery shells.

@@klscott874You need to understand the culture and differences between the way these countries approach conflict and the way the US and European countries do. Chechen's are battle hardened, hardcore, proud and fully trained professional soldiers. Like the Russian Army the officers fight alongside their troops which is why they're so respected and why morale stays high. How many US Generals are ever actually in the field fighting alongside their men?

The Soviets often chose death over surrender even over ground that had little importance, I can understand wishing to live as it is a normal human instinct. Many hundreds of thousands of Soviets also surrendered only to die at the hands of the Nazis.
