can someone explain why people care so much about lipsyncing in these totp performances?? these clips are taken from the 90s/early 2000s (they're old as hell) and there's nothing u can do about the fact that they lip synced now so it's pointless to complain. imo i'd rather the artists save their energy to give a good energetic performance and have fun onstage dancing than expend it all on singing live just to please a few overly picky people.
I’m not sure where you’re from, but I’m American, and it seems most of the critiques come from over here. Not saying people don’t bring it up elsewhere. Plenty of Latino singers get criticism for "playback" in South America and Spain, despite singing live. But honestly, I rarely hear anyone from outside the USA complaining about lip synching, or as they call it in Europe, "miming". Isn’t that a bit easier and faster to say…And type? Lol. But i agree, it’s like, unless you’re a vocalist yourself, or a judge on Idol or the Voice, why do you care? I thought it was known that most non-American programs, especially European tv and awards shows, involved almost 100% lip synchs. It’s actually a production thing-the network wants a good show. And the viewers, too. The fans should also want that, but I guess they like to see their faves struggle? My other issue is too many artists don’t have good producers or sound engineers at their concerts. They don’t lip synch entire songs. They dub parts of it and it’s very obvious when they’re struggling, and then suddenly it sounds crystal clear. That’s… not helping, either. Lol. I live for Mariah Carey, but her team isn’t helping her live shows. It’s clear when certain sections of songs are from the album, ya know, from 1995. Or 1997. I’ve heard the songs enough to know it’s the same track. Then they turn her mic back on and it’s struggle bus again. They’re not helping her look better. You know who does, or did, it well? And had a good team of engineers…? Celine Dion. And she physically looks like she’s singing live, neck muscles strained, looking powerful. And the long chorded microphone! Adding to the illusion! Might be a tripping hazard but anything to add to that effect. Mariah, my girl, wanders around the stage chatting, then does a little live something something, then the harder parts are played on a track and sound metallic almost. Tinny. Weird. And suddenly her face isn’t straining. It’s clear when some ppl are lip synching, and I think it’s fine, just please do it right. You need to look the part, somewhat.
Yeah when they move too much like this when they sing its obvious that its playback mostly I have only seen a few singers who can run around and still sing at perfect pitch (axl rose 1990s for eg) eg
