What's up Reefers and welcome back to AquaSD! My name is Manny, and today we'll show you our process of receiving and unboxing new corals. Stay tuned to see some of the awesome corals we got in this shipment!"
First, let's go over where these coral shipments come from and how they get here. Today's corals are from West Australia and Taiwan, traveling all the way to California. Here's the process:
1. Obtain permits: importer’s license, exporter’s license, and CITES permits.
2. Divers collect corals based on demand and CITES permits.
3. Exporters price corals based on scarcity, resources, danger, and demand.
4. Corals are boxed and shipped worldwide.
5. A broker handles paperwork and clearance with government agencies for final delivery."
Receiving the Shipment "Once the corals arrive, our driver brings them from the airport to our shop. We start by unboxing and floating the bags for temperature acclimation.
Next, we organize the corals into holding tanks, checking for any DOAs or corals needing treatment. We then move them into grow-out tanks matching their care requirements, where they can recover and open up."
