The Aquabats perform the opening and closing themes to the pilot for Evan Dorkin's "Welcome To Eltingville", based on the Eltingville strips from his comic "Dork!"
I am happy to hear that the Eltingville pilot is officially available among the bonus material in the "Adult Swim in a Box" collection. A copy should be sealed in a time capsule for future anthropologists. "This is who we were, guys."
I loved that section since there were so many layers to it. On the surface the deprogrammers seemed like the good guys just trying to help Bill out, but I've noticed small details that made me think twice about their own line of thinking, like calling themselves a "Mandom", saying that Frederic Wertham of all people was right, and just how hilariously repressed they are about simple pop culture references. There's the obvious point that there's way more to life than just fandoms and that you're missing out on the most beautiful parts of living if you make fandom your entire life, but even Bill of all people kinda brings up a valid point about fandoms being a kind of self-care/escapism in the face of an extremely cruel world and that you don't have to give up what you love just to appease the very same people that tortured you for it in the first place. The ending is basically what you get when you put two types of extremists in a single room for several days and neither of them ever hearing of the concept of moderation: It's okay to own a collection as long as you don't let your collection own you, and don't completely deprive yourself of hobbies or you'll become a ticking time bomb all because you denied yourself a healthy outlet. That's one of the reasons why Eltingville Club is one of my absolute favorite comics of all time.
@@quetzalcoatl88 if you're asocial, out of shape, and unemployed, then those things should be fixed. You can still enjoy hobbies while leading a healthy life. Several times at the gym I've seen other guys wearing super hero or anime themed shirts while looking yolked out, which tells me they reached the balance of being a healthy nerd.
Heard this in Rebeltaxi's video covering the pilot for years, but the one moment I discovered it was composed by the aquabats was when I voluntarily decided to search it up myself.
I love both the theme song and the outro. I used to listen to this on repeat back in high school in 2018. That's That's I heard the credit song from the Pizza Party Podcast.
I think the openign and closing themes should've been switched. The outro feels more introductory while the intro is more of a muted retrospective on the asthetic

No truth in the comic at the end it told more about the plot and Adult swim asked him to make a half hour special so I am believing the theory is false.
