Paul shows you how to install a pressure gauge on your plumbing. To measure hull pressure, the gauge should be installed after the pump but before the filter inlet. A rise in pressure indicates that your bead bed needs to be backwashed. Remember, AST filters should not be overpressurized; this can cause shortened filter lifespans and hull failure.

You should look up the specs for 1/4in npt thread engagement before you try this. I believe the nominal is around 1/2 in. The proper way to install a pressure gauge would have been to drill a hole on a straight section of pipe and then use a saddle clamp set to accept 1/4in npt. Or just glue in a tee that is 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 x 1/4 nptf or 2 x 2 x 1/4nptf depending on the size of your line. The technique shown might hold and no problems will ever arise , but it would not pass an inspection, it weakened the 90, and created a potential flood if that gauge blew out.

As per my knowledge, you should not install a pressure gauge in the bend, the flow is unsteady and high vortex presence may give erroneous reading. Correct me , if I am wrong.
