00:00 Title
00:05 Get a wire hanger, preferably made of wire without paint or
any other insulation.
Cut off the hook.
Straighten the wire.
I do it with my hands.
You may use any suitable tools -
pipes work well as levers and bend points.
Alternatively, you may cook a nice meal for your dad and
ask him for help with this wire.
Watch the wonders dad can do for the love you give him.
00:55 Get a piece of tube that is longer than the wire.
The tube will protect the wire from water.
The wire should fit freely inside of the tube.
Thread the wire into the tube.
01:11 Each end of the wire should be 2-3 cm inside of the tube.
Fold the wire in half.
Make a loop in the middle of the wire, as wide as a couple fingers.
It's the bottom of the plant holder.
Work both ends of the wire in the same way.
Bend wire at a 90 degree angle to the base.
01:50 Now we have to make wings that will hold the plant.
The size of wings should be sufficient to embrace the plant.
Here I have made the wings.
02:21 The rest of the wire is going to be the hook.
Bend the ends of the wings toward each other.
It's better to make longer wings with overlapping ends to fit different size plants.
02:59 Trim off the tube.
We don't want exposed wire to scratch the glass of our aquarium.
Here is the top view.
Here is the bottom view.
03:23 Let's put our plant in the planter.
Here I have a Peace lily.
We can move the wings apart as necessary for the plant.
Leaves of the Peace lily have to stay above water.
03:46 Hold the planter next to your aquarium.
Move it up or down to find the best height to make the hook.
04:05 Bend the wire to make the hook.
Keep the rest of the wire -
you may want to lower the plant when it grows higher.
Congratulations! We have made the plant holder.
Hang it over the rim of the aquarium with the plant in water.
Have fun and happy aquaponics :)

Great use of the vinyl tubing. Sometimes I needed just a short length, but I know buying longer lengths is better for the price. So I end up buying long lengths, and the rest of the tubing sits unused for long periods of time. Now I know what else that they can be used for!

Tubing is not cheap for sure. For that reason alone, I've been reusing the same tubes for different projects, and use inline straight connectors to hook lines from short tubes. It looked like a Christmas decorations on my aquariums :))

This is one of the best DIY I have ever seen, the wrapping in air tube is absolutely genius and the tube fits perfectly. One thing that worries me is that the wings might be too tight on the plant stems. I am completely surprised there is no commercial product read made like those, i onyl found wabi kusa hangers but they are not wrapped in silicon

Right now I have it in a bottle with rosey barbs in my outside pond, its growing like crazy, I also have it around my house just in vases but I have 3 aquariums inside I am going to put it in but didn't want to put in vases, so was looking for ideas and found yours which I'll definately try. I have a 3' with tropicals, tetras cories, loaches and endlers. I also have 2 x 10gal divided tanks with 2 bettas in each, one with 2 males and 1 with 2 females.
@4me
@4me 7 лет назад
Wow! You have a lot of fish in many aquariums. And you have endlers! Pet stores in NYC don't sell them. I only have seen them in videos - they look so cool! I know, one day I will get them - my world would be such a beautiful as it's never been before :)) Though, I more luckily succeed in breeding strain of small size guppies (under 2 cm) than getting endlers. Then the world would be even better for everyone ;)

You checked my other channels too!! Thank you very much!!!! Speaking of balloons and polymath - you remind me about one of my balloon twisters youtube body. He used to work as NASA engineer in times before google bought youtube. His primary job/project was making unfolding constructions for satellites (antennas and such folded in sort of origami). And he used modeling balloons for visualization - pretty cool thing. Making pyramid shaped objects for some of my balloon sculptures were inspired on that - not real math, but challenging enough to blow my mind. One balloon crown was the most challenging - took me a couple years to make 😂

Thank you so much for your fascinating response 🤝 I was harvesting duckweed! I’m trying hard to keep my comments to a minimum as you’re so diligent in your replies, but it’s not easy!! I had a couple of questions but reasoned them out to my satisfaction! ✌️🇺🇦🤍
@4me
@4me 5 месяцев назад
Curios minds have more questions than answers - finding answers on your own gives most satisfaction 🙂Middle or late summer time is the best for picking wild samples of duckweed in NYC. And so it is even in aquariums that get only natural daylight. I noticed that duckweed performs better in open top aquariums (the top side of the duckweed has to be exposed to air flow) or in tanks with at slow water flow. Eventually I will make a video about it. ☮❤✌

Yes, it’s too easy to Google (if you can believe the answers!!) or pick someone else’s brains! Where I’m living at present is a full sized swimming pool and adjacent splash pool, unused, but kept topped up, for 20 years! You would LOVE it ! It’s got just about everything! I’m setting up pickle jars of samples to take to my new flat. ✌️

One Cautionary Note: My mystery snail is big. I don't know how long he was wedged in the coil of this hanger, but I think maybe o/night. When I released him, he dropped to bottom & was v/weak; climbed so slowly up for air. He's alive & seems okay. Could have broken my heart.

Is it even rustproof? It´s not actually made for aquariums.
@4me
@4me 6 лет назад
You can use rustproof wire or any other wire. It really does not matter, because the wire never gets in touch with water - you put the wire inside of air tube which is made for aquariums (I use air tube from Petco store selling it marked for aquariums). You can see in the video how I put the wire inside of the air tube. I left the ends of the tube out of aquarium - the water never gets inside of tube.

can you get away with this in a tank with no aeration (i.e. for betta)?
@4me
@4me 6 лет назад
Thank you for the question! Yes. Aeration serves to increase water to air surface exchange, water circulation, and as a decoration. Plants and algae are ultimate source of oxygen/ consume CO2. natural water filters, and source of food. Also, plants serve as decoration and hiding place for your fish. Marry Christmas!
