Have you ever seen a $70 Betta before? I hadn't, not until the other day when I visited my local fish store. This fish is amazing! A very handsome and extremely robust example of a male Betta splendens. Couldn't take my eyes off of him, and I bet you won't be able to either. BUT...the question is...would you pay $70 for a Betta? Do you keep Bettas? What's the most you've ever paid for one? Leave a comment and tell me if you would purchase this breathtaking fish.

If you look at him once every day for a year, that is around 20 cents per view. I'd call that value for money.

Absolute stunner. I think $70 for any fish is a little expensive, but I guess it depends on the rarity and how badly you want it. Everything had a price, its just depends on what you're willing to pay for it. 🤑
@Aquatasy
@Aquatasy 2 года назад
Very well said. It's more than I am personally willing to pay, however the cost may seem justified for the next person. And apparently someone did find the price tag justifiable because this fish sold a couple days after I posted this video. The interesting thing is that on the freshwater side of the hobby $70 for one fish might seem pricey, but on the saltwater side it could be viewed as a bargain. I appreciate your comment. Thanks!
@nayanmistry4641

Albany Aquarium has been my LFS since 2004. Love that store. You'll find a lot of the videos on this channel feature footage shot at Albany Aquarium. I do have some disappointing news for you. That betta has been sold. I went back in the day after this video was posted just to get another look at it and someone had already snatched it up. But rest assured that Hector at Albany Aquarium will be stocking more high-end handsome bettas like that. They are proving to be quite popular. If you happen to spot me wandering around Albany Aquarium some day (something I do every chance I getl) be sure to say hello!

@@Aquatasy I’m new to your channel. RU-vid recommended your video and I knew the betta looked familiar lol so I was intrigued. But if I see you I’ll for sure say hi. Albany is my go to also. I’ve tried others and they’re cool, but there’s none like that spot. Hector and the crew are so friendly and knowledgeable and they also have a great selection. That is disappointing about the betta but it happens. Just part of the hobby. I’ll just keep an eye out for the next amazing fish that I just have to have haha. Thanks for the reply and the video!

I think I would have to agree with you, Cathy. For some hobbyists the cost is justified. I've always been a frugal fishkeeper. I seldom spend a lot on one single fish. But I have to say this fish was the healthiest and most impressive looking Betta I have seen in a very long time.

He sold? They Betta get another one! 🐠 I'd imagine that a fish that glamorous would command a special 'scape, too! 🏰🏝(hmmm...make a video about how to 'scape just for the colors and types of fish you have?). @@Aquatasy i think one $70 fish would easily replace my other "garden variety fish" in the sense of my enjoyment of it vs. the others. I may indeed end up someday with just such a betta and no other fish!
@Aquatasy
@Aquatasy 2 года назад
That's another good point. I think ultimately each aquarist has to do what makes them the happiest in this hobby otherwise why even be in the hobby? Obviously we don't want to be reckless and spend a fortune on our fish tank obsession when we should be paying bills and putting food on the table. Having said that, if a fishkeeper stays within their own budget what does it matter whether they spend $70 on one fish or on multiple fish, right?

@Aquatasy
@Aquatasy 2 года назад
Couldn't agree more, Wanda! Like you, fifteen bucks is the most I have ever paid for one single fish. And as you say, there are no guarantee of longevity. Bettas don't live exceptionally long to begin with which when I purchase a Betta I tend to select juveniles. When you buy an adult you never know for certain how old they are. With a juvie you at least have some idea of how many years they could potentially spend with you.

This is true! Tomorrow is never promised to anyone or any thing thing. But I will say that I tend to gravitate towards pets that on average live a long time: parrots, reptiles, cats, and certain fish species. I get so emotionally attached to my pets that I would be devastated if I got a fish and it only lived a year.
