A R Rahman yesterday (11-12-2010) performed at Norway in the Nobel Peace Prize Concert honoring this year's winner Liu Xiaobo, alongside the likes of veterans like Herbie Hancock.
ARR played two tracks from the soundtrack that gave him worldwide recognition, Slumdog Millionaire. First was Escape, the one which had featured some amazing sitar playing by Asad Khan, only yesterday Rahman conjured up a much more haunting improvised version of the track! The second one was Jai Ho, Rahman singing the song alongside Shweta Pandit and Tanvi Shah to a dance performance

I don't understand why ppl are after questioning was slumdog his best work or not. That specific year, he gave music for a certain hollywood movie, music reached to the ears of the academy jury, and they judged him to be the best. It was good enough in their opinion to be the best that year. The musicians of this league in my honest opinion are above and beyond these awards.

I think the main reason behind is that people think Rahman got the attention only because he directed music for a hollywood film, in the past he has given better music in bollywood movies and he was not recognized for those. This can be the reason people are saying that Slumdog is not his best work. For me personally it does not matter, he got recognized for his work, which is thoroughly deserved, and I am sure audience of other countries might have checked his other work if they are interested in foreign music and have a good taste.

That doesn't mean that the world ranks his all the songs better than this. The taste of Indian to Indian songs and international taste is two different thing. Even gangam style became so popular but that doesn't mean that all his songs are

Are dimag ke chode kavi RB Burman ka nam suna hain? Saleel shab? Ismail darbar? Aur jo itna tu AR rahman ka chat raha hain na. Basically he is ruining our music industry by introducing autotune and many more electric instruments. Also old AR rahman (dil se,Roja,Bombey etc) is far far better than now a day's ARH. Tell me one project after his nobel he just dropped bomb as a Music.

shoorveer singh The first piece sounds like a segment of a longer composition. The second seems kind of like a superficial "pop" song. Oh well. I prefer listening to Shakti. Far more interesting and not so commercial sounding.

Well there are many experimental bands in the west as well. Pink Floyd(yeah they were from UK) is a good example. You can listen to The Tool as well.

I think it is really an honor to be performing at such a concert in such a precious event and i believe no other indian has ever reached such great heights and received such honors in their entire life time as this guy has done in his short career and young life . Proud to be an indian, proud to be a tamilian and of course proud to be a muslim. Saare jahaan se acha hindustaan hamaara and he is walking, talking and showing on each and every world stage.

Phenomenal & Unbelievable! The sitar bits are impossible to play. On the original score, it could have been multiple takes and a lot of cut and pastes...but when this is performed live here in this concert, it is proven that its a magical performance by Gulrez Khan. No words can express the total magnitude of this concert. Hats off to every one involved in this and my complete and utmost admiration to AR Rahman for his excellence in creating this composition! Even if Jai Ho is not his best work (which actually isn't) I'm glad that he got an Oscar. Don't see Oscar as an award for Jai Ho rather it's a symbolic representation of appreciation by the world towards the musical genius that AR Rahman is.

He doesn't missed to pick jai ho 8:59...but accidentally started den faded out becos in stage show performances sometimes they alter d track sequence of a song like in this video....at 4:38 u can also notice the slight mismatch of synchronisation...I loved d way d concert has been shot...awesome video angles and editing....world class concert by A R Rahman....

What many westerners don't know is the fact that Rahman has better compositions than Jai Ho. However, Slumdog Millionaire brought a simple man with music genius from Chennai into the limelight and that is why Jai Ho works on the global scene. I'm sure when the western hemisphere explores his music they'll be just as enchanted!!

How much ever I love listening to A.R. Rahman, I'm getting sick of 'Jai Ho' . Too much 'Jai Ho' sounds too painful. Why couldn't he instead perform that awesome 'Bombay' theme at this platform!
